Susie (Saoirse Ronan) finally gets the chance to kiss Ray (Reece Ritchie).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Fourteen-year-old Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is just experiencing the pangs of first love when she's viciously murdered by her neighbor Mr. Harvey (Stanley Tucci), a predatory wolf in J.C. Penney clothing. As her family slowly begins drifting apart while struggling to make sense of their loss, Susie bravely attempts to find her footing in the hereafter. Meanwhile, down on earth, Mr. Harvey is feeling confident that he's covered his tracks well enough to get away with the crime, and begins honing in on his next victim -- Susie's younger sister, Lindsey (Rose McIver), who's beginning to suspect that he's not the harmless suburbanite he portrays himself to be. Director Peter Jackson reteams with King Kong and Lord of the Rings trilogy co-screenwriters Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh to adapt Alice Sebold's bestselling novel for the big screen.

I loove the way he says you're beautiful Suzie Salmon because I think he means more than just her physical beauty the fact that she existed is beautiful even though she's gone she is left her mark on his heart.
right and it was all so beautiful and not superficial and just the magic of the moment fam
+Fritz Raap hes a pussy writing poetry and being a bitch and getting at a freshman
+Jonathan Cisneros You must be quite the ladies man.
+Jonathan Cisneros what the hells wrong with you?
+Jonathan Cisneros that's four years age difference I know people who are way more years apart and married
I like to think that instead of waking her up, his kiss set her soul free. :)
Beauty Girl 67 What do you mean by, “Waking her up?” Remember she is telling the story from two points of view. But, it wasn’t the kiss that set her free...
“When my mother came into my room, I’ve realized that, all this time, I had been waiting for her. I had been waiting so long... I was afraid she wouldn’t come...” Her spirit wouldn’t let go of earth until she knew her family came to acceptance that she was gone. That’s why she couldn’t leave the “in-between.” Supposedly, it’s true that you not letting your love one go and accepting that they are dead. They won’t be able to leave the, “In- between,” because you won’t let them... but, that’s a cute way of thinking it and you can think of it that way if you chose to! (:
Damm 😮
Quite sad how she was never found
Yeah but they found bloods
+Tyler G. (MineStein) Same..;-;
What’s even more sad is that there are *real* Mr.Harveys in the world and many Susie’s who have never been found...You can’t just turn the TV off and say it’s just a movie.
2020 Update: I was 14 when I saw this film in 2010, the same age as the character Susie. At age 14, some man tried to abduct me as I was walking home from school in my own neighborhood. I don’t know where I would be today if I hadn’t got away. It is only by the grace of God I am here today. Age 23, getting married next month (March 2020) to my boyfriend of six years, and graduating from college this upcoming June with two B.A. degrees.
I say this to say - Celebrate where you are now in life, every little thing you take for granted. There are so many Susie Salmons in the world who were robbed of their innocence, dreams, and life’s precious milestones. Realize each day you make it back home is a gift that everyone didn’t receive. We are only here for a moment, I too wish you all a long & happy life.
In the book, a few things were eventually found. They didn't just find blood. They found her elbow. And her charm bracelet.
In the book it said they found her body parts like arm or leg and lot of blood
I remember in the book, they actually made love when Susie took over Ruth's body. But I guess they made it innocent with just a kiss in the movie. Either way, this was beautiful too.
angelstar513 oh I definitely remember that scene
CountryBeautiful also Saoirse was underage at the time
Scandalous peach haha what?
Scandalous peach ah okay then, interesting
Scandalous peach haha, thanks :)
I wished so much that those two could have been together forever. I didn't like it that she died, but at least they got to give one final good-bye to the one they really love.
You should read the book. If I can remember, they actually spend a day together with her inside that girl's body.
I had read the book and it had made me cry. :'( But, I think it would have been cool if they would have put that in the movie.
I know right? They should have added Lyndsey a lot more, because I feel like she had a bigger part in the book than in the movie. But, both the book and movie made me cry, so I give them both a thumbs up! :D
Yes, that's true, they both made me cry my eyes out. They were both very good
They had sex in the book
The way his eyes soften when he realizes it's Susie just gets me everytime. :')
Did the other girl consent to have her body used for this? And she used her time on earth to talk to some guy she had a crush on, instead of her grieving family? I don't remember this movie well, I was drunk when I saw it so I might be way off base.
@@hansolo631 that’s a good point
@@hansolo631 So anyways…🙄
@@hansolo631nah mate but Susie sure did
When he dropped the box I was crying like nooooooooooooooooo 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 that was like the saddest part along with him killing her part ugh so sad this really happens
This is really sad- and beautiful. They will never be able to have a life together. Susie will never have kids, never get married, never graduate college, never see her family again until they die. But in this moment you can see she accepts that and just enjoys the moment she can have. It’s really sweet
“You are beautiful, Susie Salmon.” Makes me cry every time.
Saoirse Ronan is one of the greatest actors in the world.
Proven even until today
Actresses*
@@barnacleboi2595 same thing
@angelothehorrorfan5013 An actor is male and Actress is female you goofy goofball!
I would agree with that. I agree with Ryan Gosling, who said that Saiorse Ronan is like a new Meryl Streep. And she was basically an acting prodigy from a very young age, too! Just an amazing actress! I imagine that it is just a matter of time before she finally wins an Oscar. And she has already been nominated what, four times, I think and all before she was 25 or 26!
Am I the only one here who found saoirise Ronan pretty?
No, I think everyone thinks shes pretty and even more so because she doesnt look like every other generic "pretty" girl. Shes pretty but also has a unique beauty ☺
jara ku No
jara ku yes
You kidding me? She’s my celebrity crush! Both because of her acting AND because she’s so damn beautiful
She’s beautiful, and so many people think that
I remember crying my eyes out when she sees everybody moves on and are happy with their lives. It's so heartbreaking
This book is one of those tragic stories that unexpectedly plays upon so many emotions. This was a great film adaptation, though a few things were changed. I'm glad that her killer received Karmic Justice though her body was never recovered. Saoirse's performance stole and broke my heart.
you're beautiful, Susie Salmon
“You are beautiful, Susie Salmon.” Both beautiful and heartbreaking. 😞
Im a 40 year old dude and I cried a couple times watching this movie, because it was breathtakingly beautiful. And the subject matter is very real. A prayer to the countless children murdered everyday.
As someone who went through sa as a child myself, this made me feel so much. You loose your childlike innocence, at least I did, but this was so pure. I think this is a wish from many survivors, to be able to go back to such innocence. It makes me cry! I'm so happy for her! Even if she's not real. And it hurts.
You can. What was done to you, had nothing to do with you nor was it your fault.
The person(s) who inflicted such pain and garbage cannot control you or your emotions. I know, I been through it.
@@firstlady3674 Thank you! I currently struggle with introjection and parts that are loyal to my abus3r ( family member ). It started when I was very young, so yeah. Did you have an introjection of your abus3r and stockholm syndrom like symptoms? If yes how do you deal with them? I know this is a complex question. It's ok, if you don't want to answer!
I wish you the very best!
I remember watching this scene and being so sad they never found her body! Their family never got any closure. They went along with their lives without not knowing the whereabouts of their daughter 😢
Sometimes it's better to remember someone as they were, not what led to their demise.
dam in that scene she does not look 14 she looks like 12
what susie said: "you wrote me a poem once. you called yourself the moor."
what susie should've said and done: "ray... my killer mr. harvey is outside with my body. get him now!"
*later after she reunites with her family one last time before saying goodbye to go to heaven again*
dyl dobrev I've seen this movie a lot of times, and from my perspective... I think it's gonna be too late for her to say that. She finally let go and got to go to Heaven at this moment but needed to have one last moment with Ray because that's one thing she never did and forever will haunt her and him because Ray did ask her to come at that mall before she was murdered. This moment was like, she finally went and see him but for the last time before she was gone and went to Heaven.
i've seen this movie a lot, too. i agree with you. i only commented this because i would've enjoyed seeing susie reunite with her family and confront her own killer. it would be really intriguing.
moor* I'm pretty sure. A morgue is a place for dead bodies, a "moor" is someone who guides people on their journey.
I wish that
I guess she found peace after Harvey died. The family never got any closure.. they just moved on with their lives..
This movie make me cry
Me, too
This is beyond heartbreaking. It hurts to know this really happens. I wish the world was full of love and peace.
How the hell did this movie only get 31% on Rotten Tomatoes?
NeighborhoodCatLady because rotten tomatoes is a site full of idiotic critics.. Too many good films has a low % by the help of unbrainless "critics". In my opinion, "the lovely bones" is one of the most underrated films of all time and that's sad.. So, if you wanna to look evaluation for film, don't look at rotten tomatoes before you watched film.
Mark & Trailer Oh, I know. I just have a habit of looking up a movie's score on rotten tomatoes. I know they are not very reliable.
Movies'*
Everyone has a different opinion and taste. I think the film has a lot of flaws and there are characters that I don't like but I love the Lovely Bones. Personally, Tim Burton would have been a better choice for director.
Battleborn Are you kidding me that movie denfintely deserved 99%
I kinda cried watching this scene. The way they portray, their emotions are so perfect.
this movie is so beautiful. every scene looks like a work of art. you can pause at any time during your watch and drink in the rich detail in every shot
She really is beautiful.
She is really beautiful*
Aprio Anneirano why would you correct a comment from 6 years ago?
And also, the way it was written isn’t wrong, you can say “she really is beautiful”, it’s just different than “she is really beautiful”, like, more meaningful.
@@alicetkach3890 exactly
I can imagine, years from now in the movie, a construction company are going through digging the ditch for constructing a building and a worker comes across a safe, thinking that there must be treasure or something, they come to find a bag with the dead remaining of Suisse body, the police get in volved and since now its been years and DNA is now usable, the police find out that its the body of Suise Salmon and inform the last relatives who are connected and alive to her family aka her brother and Sister who are all grown up, they feel the sense of relief to finally know the truth of their sisters death. Although they are now older and had come to accept her lost years ago now with all small memories came to their minds of what they had with Susie it feels great that their freedom has brought them more to know and their in peace.
"
As I watched my family sip champagne, I thought about how their lives trailed backward and forward from my death, and then I saw, as Samuel took the daring step of kissing Lindsey in a room full of family, became borne alooft from it.
These where the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections - sometimes tenous, sometimes made a great cost, but often magnificent - that happened after I was gone. I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it. The events that my death brought were merely the bones of a body that would become whole at some unpredictable time in the future. The price of what I came to see as this miraculous body had been my life.

Chapter 23, The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold
Them throwing that safe info the landfill was the most heart wrenching thing for me to watch
Yes a sixth sense
I couldn't hold my tears in this part, he finally got to kiss her❤
This film has aged remarkably well ❤️
This girl was so precious
facts
Her Angelic smile, made me cry.
This movie made me cry so much!
But it was just so sad how she was killed so young in that he threw her body in a drainage ditch😢❤R.I.P Susie Salmon.
Mya Sims i think it's THE BIG SHIP
He didn't throw her in a drainage ditch. Her body is in that safe, hence its significance.
@@xmynationalanthemx She's referring to the sinkhole he threw the safe into as a drainage ditch. Sure, technically different things, but no need to nitpick.
A beautiful film, brilliantly scored and acted. Saoirse was always destined for greatness after this and Hanna.
'You are beautiful Susie Salmon.' T-T
After I read the book, I decided to watch the movie and I think this movie is the first movie that actually made me cry.
And I think it was because it was so bittersweet. It didn't have no happy ending, but yet it still felt so heartfelt when she wished everyone a happy and long life, and the kiss with him, and when her mom opened the window. That was my favorite scene throughout the whole thing, as it finally shows that the mother has finally let Susie go.
I remember watching this part with my mom and she was hoping the safe would just pop open
i was 8 years old when i first watched this and i cried my friggn eyes out at this scene😭😭. one of the most sad & touching movies ive seen
This scene is actually quite impactful, i never realized until I was older just how deep the meaning is.
Suzie lost her innocence in the most brutal and violent way possible. Absolutely traumatizing. The fact that she is able to experience something so tender with someone she trusts is one happy thing in all the darkness. It will never undo what has happened to her, but I'm glad she was able to know love.
The guy in the movie is portrayed as a senior and I think she is portrayed to be in ninth or tenth grade
I had 2 hold back soooo many tears in this scene. This whole movie saddened me and everything that came with it 😭😢
I got tears in my eyes just watching this short scene :(
I am crying
It's sad that she died so young and couldn't experience a lot of first things.. very sad movie,I can't watch it without crying ..
part that got me, is when she said, I wish you all a happy life.
Such a beautiful and touching scene
Why the fuck did they need to CGI a scrapyard?!
It's Peter Jackson. He'll CGI anything.
Plus, it'd take a lot takes trying to get the safe to spiral down the sink hole the way Jackson wanted, so it would have been a lot cheaper to just CGI the whole thing.
Ugh this part makes me burst out in tears every time :'(
this makes me cry everytime i see this.
I have watched this movie more times than I can remember, I love her she is incredible. One of my favourite movie's.
Whenever I think of this movie, I think of this scene. So beautiful..
I dont usually approve of teenage flick love hollywood movies and those mostly immoral stuffs they influence....but this is an exception. This is pure love. And I cried.
Princess Talisaysay This is not a “teenage flick love” movie, did you watch it or read the book, pray tell?
this is not a teenage love flick smdh 😒
there was so much innocence in this scene. 2009 was truly a different time.
i like when he push that thing and how he was
getting help i think its the slow motion saddest part
Why am I crying? I've never even watched the movie!:((
It's on Netflix now :)
Molly 840000000 you should
I know when you watched it you cried because same 😩
I cried my eyes out at this film, the best ever
I cried so much just from watching the trailer
One of the most sorrowful books I've read.
It bothered me about her body but I think she was at peace, and she was finally going to go to the afterlife in peace idk just my theory
I could watch this scene a million times
such an underrated movie
the score was Amazing.
This scene broke my heart
I cry every time I watch that scene😭
"You are beautiful Susie Salmon" OMG😢
I ALWAYS cry during this part!!
cry every time i watch this scene. EVERY TIME
Same
Gets home
“How did these heroin needles get stuck in my tire?”
That music really makes the romantic scene so much more powerful.
This movie was so sweet and sad at the same time
when I first watched this movie I could not even get into this scene nor listen to what they were saying and now watching this scene again I still can't find this part touching because I'm to focused her damn body rolling off to be dumped!!! The whole time I kept think Damn it Susie tell the bf that mofo is disposing your body STOP THEM!!! Better yet TELL the Police! >=(
This movie left me unsatisfied
Actually ur to dumb enough that this movie is originally from a book which they based in ugh
@@sickrowstbrow7342 you dont convince someone with insulting someone. People like yourself who are quick to type vileness yet feel constructive because you offered up some info.
@@sickrowstbrow7342 so she's dumb because she didnt know it was a book?... well I'm sure you're ignorant to some things as well... instead of insulting someone why not inform them.. I swear I cnt stand some ppl
If she told him then she wouldn't get what she wanted
He threw her away like her life meant nothing. This is a terrible realm for a child to incarnate into.
I cried soo much:'(
The Big Ship - Brian Eno :) Amazing piece of music.
Desde mi cielo es rre lindo pero no podes evitar que se te caiga la lágrima de lo triste que es pero amo esa peli !!!
One of my favorite movies!
Makes me cry EVERY DAMN TIME
Brilliant film I have only seen it once because I get that sick feeling from feeling sad inside :(
The reason she saw her 'boyfriend' was because she was giving them both a little closure(including Ruth)Alsoher family had just started moving on from her death, including her dad who was the most torn up about it & nearly got himself killed because of it.Him letting go was the final peice to bringing their family together, and her seeing them would have just brought all the pain and misery, ripping them apart.Susie knew that,so she didn't go visit them so they could find their peace too.
This scene makes me cry !!!!
I could only watch this movie once. If you have kids this is your worst nightmare.
It bothers me that she's this wonderful spirit with all these earthly hopes and aspirations and can't fulfill them, and knows she's can't. Good reminder to live a little more purposeful with those you love.
This scene just makes the entire film, at least Susie managed to get her happy ending :')
I love this movie so much it made me cry when she finally go to kiss him 😊
im crying my eyes out
Same it's so sad..
You are definitely a good actor when you can convey human emotion with just your eyes toby maguire is brilliant at it and so is this kid to
I watch this scene over and over again.
I need a shoulder to cry on
"You are beautiful, Susie Salmon" he knew that would be last time he would see her.
This movie makes me cry
es la pelicula mas hermosa que he visto en toda mi vida
This made me cry so bad
This film was so sad but so good
I think it's beautiful that something so simple as her first kiss, was what was keeping her there and that she HAD to have it before she moved on.
Kristiealice extactly
It shows how sick and careless people are, to ruin someone and take their life and to go through all this so you can live out your sick little fantasy in a day’s time, all that to ruin things for a lifetime.
This is the most underrated movie in cinema.
una de las películas más bonitas que me hizo llorar mucho 😣😣😣
God such a sad movie!!! *cries*
Chills down my spine!
