That’s more the definition of splitting off and projection than the definition of gaslighting. Splitting off and projection is attacking in others what you want to deny about yourself; gaslighting is “You didn’t see what you saw, you didn’t hear what you heard, you didn’t feel what you felt, and if you did, your mind is playing tricks on you!” in response to being called out for objectionable behaviors.

Per your definition (which I agree with), I think gaslighting is in play.
They say the left is the violent group (projection), but also say/imply they don’t use violent rhetoric even though they clearly have (gaslighting).

I left my Fundamentalist Baptist church in Alabama shortly after Trump became President in 2016 because the hate-filled, rightwing, Christian Nationalist rhetoric was just off the charts. Today, I work part-time with a bunch of people around my age (73), and I never miss an opportunity to tell anyone who will listen about Project 2025. A few of the MAGA faithful are still in the bag for Trump but that's changing as we approach November.

What she is describing, blaming others for the actions taken by the blamer, is projection.
The term gaslight comes from the time when house lighting was provided by gas lamps, turn one on in a different room the lamps everywhere else will flicker. When someone is gaslighting you, they are attempting to convince you that the flicker you saw wasn't real, that the light in the other room was never turned on. It's a form of manipulation to make you doubt what you saw with your own eyes or doubt what you heard with your own ears.
Example of gaslighting: "J6 was just a tourist visit"
Side note: the origin of gaslighting someone comes from a British play in the late 1930s "Gas light" & made its way across the pond in the mid 1940s American movie of the same name.

I needed this! My mom and I got into a horrible fight because of her support for Trump. Usually we just disagree and move on because we have our right to choose. But when she boldly stated that Trump has been choosen by Jesus. I lost it. Now she's upset with me for calling her delusional! I let her know I wouldn't allow my kids around this nonsense. The timing is bad too because it's my youngest sons bday party today. We should be celebrating as a family but can't and now she's playing victum because I gave her facts about how she's been living her life recently and that I was concerned for her mental health. This indeed is tearing family and friends apart. I don't even bring up politics usually for peace sake but every time she's got to nit pick and start it in conversation. It's like she's out of touch with reality. I'm afraid I'll have to keep her away from my kids now 😔.

It's got to be hard wondering if nows the time but being driven away by such toxic ideals and behaviour. Having lost my mom to cancer all I can add is don't allow yourself to give up on her. I was raised to be “tolerant” so that means a bunch of pretending when they put Trump on tv but if I put any of my values on blast then I’m *supposed* to be embarrassed or suddenly I’m not *very nice*.
It’s very exhausting to be stuck with people 24/7 who don’t share your values.
We’re also talking about a man that could threaten my prospects as a teacher.
If project 2025 comes to fruition then I might be barred from being a teacher because they’ll want political appointees over qualified teachers.

What she is describing is projection, not gaslighting. Gaslighting is when you manipulate someone into doubting their own perceptions, eg. "you're imagining things", "are you sure that's what you heard?" etc.
