  • A short walk along the Wales coast path from Porthcawl Seafront to Sker Point. It was quite a windy day as we just missed Storm Eowyn.
    At Sker Point I visit the memorial plaque of the Samtampa disaster, you can find the coordinates below. Also, if you visit Sker at a low tide you can still see the remains of the ship’s engine.

    Looks easy enough, think we'll try that one once it warms up. Thanks Marcus.

      It's quite an easy one to do from Rest Bay

    Definitely windy down there on the coast. Mel wisely wrapped up at home? Nice interesting visit to the wreck which I will now find out more about and watch your earlier video. Best Wishes from Julie and Keith 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    Just thought of another fine route but not done for over 40 years? it was wild then not sure now, (tried to look on streetview but theres not much) anyway, I started in Bon y Maen, parked in Lanerch st, (very wide) go south to and walk down track/road 1/3 mile untill you come to "crossroads" go right on track, (very bendy as I recall)almost to the B5444, follow track(s) through dence woodland (as I recall), hopefully this should take you to the Kiilvey Transmitter, now this is more or less on top of the hill, you could head towards St Thomas along various paths (magnificient views), ot you could just head east along the edge top, ( Thre was not a single path I think I used several to go along the top?, when you've gone about maybe 1/2 mile you will find a track going North, that will take you back to Bon y Maen.
    I have not specifically done this circular route, but have done all of it in "bits" over a long period, this was an interesting walk then, so close to Swansea but was empty then (looks it now?) again this was wild, always meant to go back for more (never did).
    I would say it was maybe 5 miles? there was a lot to investigate?

    I would say a walk on the coastal path right down sker over the little bridge and pasted the steel works, but the bridge is closed at the moment

      I did that walk a couple of years ago all the way to Swansea. I didn't know the bridge was closed.

    There is another route again not done for decades, along a forest track up the Rhigos, it's on the East side of the Rhigos road, A461, betweet the Rhigos Viewpoint and the Pen y cymoedd layby, the track goes past the LLuest Wen Reservois, was a bit bumpy track then now?, its about 2 miles one way.

      It's all turbines now. The walking/cycling is easier, with all the forestry and turbine access roads, but all too industrial for me. Some people like turbines I suppose. It's always nice to be out, and there are some nice views and details, but for me it's pretty messed up.

    Not been in decades, but Is the Area around Swansea docks a good place for a walk, as I remember it was not that bad?

    • @marcuswalks
      @marcuswalks  8 днів тому

      I'm not sure how much of that area you can actually walk. The Wales coast path bypasses it.

    The national press showed some huge waves at Porthcawl during storm Eowyn.

      We get those quite a lot, the pier creates some great shots for photographers and you get quite close safely.
