  • After 22 years, Frank Amedure has a message for the convicted killer who murdered his brother after a segment on The Jenny Jones Show. Jonathan Schmitz has just been released on parole for his notorious 1995 talk show murder that transfixed America. Frank is still coming to terms with the release of his brother's killer, but is resentful towards the television program. Schmitz was told someone had a secret crush on him and thought it was his friend Donna Riley. Instead, it was Scott Amedure. #InsideEdition

Anyway I think the situation was super aggravated by the show. It would not have been an issue if it was off camera not on national TV. Or if these shows weren't keen on embarrassing people and being as controversial as possible.
I think it's a shame it ended one and messed another young man's life. I don't think the gay guy thought the TV people would have lied to him so much either...
Such a shame and yes although the guy is a murderer he sounds truly disturbed on the 911 call. He reacted in a very immature wrong way, that is no excuse

This is actually a very complex situation, that we have all turned into a series of two dimensional caricatures. It involves a man who had some mental health issues, an abusive homophobic father, who was put into a situation he simply could not handle, and nobody involved had a clue. The real question was why did nobody even think to ask some questions about what was about to happen... and what buttons were being pushed. The list of 'nobodys' includes this girl who arranged this who knew Jonathon, Scott who is more than aware that homophobia can get violent and kept on pursuing, that homophobic Dad who got his son all riled up and ashamed after the show, the producers who did absolutely nothing to screen these 'guests' they were exploiting even asking guests the questions that get them to self screen, and of course Jonathon himself, who was aware he was bipolor, was aware this might be a man crush, was aware he had a homophobic dad. In the end he was judged competent to stand trial and legally culpable.

They lied not knowing how any person would react to this unwanted spotlight. He may have never hurt anybody otherwise yet this caused him to snap. People forget that even in the 90's it wasn't overly common to come out as gay in private much less on national television nor was it overly accepted. They toyed with the emotions of the wrong person and they lied intentionally to get him to come on. I can see how a person may snap at being put in that sort of position especially unwanted. To make matters worse the guy leaves a note on his car telling him if he wanted to get off he had the tools to do it for him after he expressed he was straight. So, not only the embarrassment of the show but he's then being sought out and sexually harassed. It was too much for him obviously he didn't just go home and kill him he was probably gonna let it go but then finding the notes on his car friends probably big time busting his balls. He didn't need to kill him but I won't pretend like I don't understand.

He murdered someone. Stop using the fact he was embarrassed on TV as an excuse. Being embarrassed doesn’t mean you can take someone’s life. He took someone’s life because he was embarrassed, who knows what he could do if someone hurt his feelings or if he didn’t get something he wanted.

  • @darcyblack8222

Apparently they didn't even tell him his crush was gay plus he worked with the guy daily and then was on TV. You can sort of see how embarrassing it was for him. He could have simply said hey I'm not gay so I'm not interested but at work people would still have laughed about it so yeah the show is a lot to blame for it. The fact of his bipolar had nothing to do with it whatsoever. Mental health is another issue unrelated always.

Genuwine6799G it’s also not just about being embarrassed. Obviously, this struck him to the very core of his identity. It’s not really about sexuality but identity, I think. And I think he had breakdown. To me, this really seems like temporary insanity. We might not understand how that would trigger a breakdown because we have a different view of sexuality but I think this can happen to anyone if their identity is threatened.
