Great video. :) Broadcom's manuals and changelogs and everything else always assume I know a lot more about how to manage this hardware than I do. Your tutorials are invaluable. :)
very nice little guides there learned quite a lot, isee that you sell 9600-24i, (only hba that would fit in my recycled qc208 server into truenas) any guide coming for them ? have you ever tried 8654 cable to 8087 with those? i would like to know ! thank
Glad you found this helpful. However, I do not have any 9600-24i cards in my store? Either way, that's already running HBA IT mode firmware. I have not tried any SFF-8654 to SFF-8087 cables, but I have tried some SFF-8654 to SFF-8643 cables and they worked just fine.
Thanks for these videos , very useful. For the tri-mode , i'm guessing you still need a backplane that has support for that beside the controller, or you just connect the drives to the controller directly ?
It is probably easiest to have a server with a backplane that supports NVMe. I'll introduce the machine these tutorials were made on in the next video. That said, there are cables you can buy that will allow you to connect U.2 drives to the SFF-8643 ports on the RAID or HBA card. However, my own experience with such cables has been hit or miss as some didn't work.

Well done. A video regarding updating the firmware and bios on these new controllers (94xx, 95xx, 96xx) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks. I will put that on my list of future videos!
@@ArtofServer Did you ever get to this? would be very useful!
