I thought my ears were playing tricks on me, but yep, that's what he said. I always thought the phrase was "standing ovation," but perhaps I was wrong, lol.
The inscription on the back of the disk: "With our Leader step by step we will fly for our eternal Germany." I'm German, so my translation might not be adequate. The phrase "MIT UNSEREM FÜHRER IM GLEICHEN SCHRITT UND TRITT" is very patriotic and means that we all (former Germans) are marching side by side with our Leader. The second part "FLIEGEN WIR FÜR UNSER EWIGES DEUTSCHLAND" can be translated in the presence "we are flying for our eternal Germany". But, I understand it as in the future form "we will fly for our eternal Germany". The point here is that Germany is eternal, not that we fly eternaly. That again is very patriotic and motivating for the people in that time, I guess. Hope this will help.
The Luger was just a parts gun before the engraving. Usually I’m against any permanent modifications, but in this case it exponentially enhanced the gun. Not a fan of those grips, but still an impressive piece!
Always excited to see a new legacy collectible video. I was starting to get withdrawals Tom! Made my morning right from the jump, keep them coming, I’ve watched every single one and now I’m all caught up and jonesing.
Thanks again gyes anouther awsome vidio all very interesing but the barrel of that luger is something else had to freeze that image for a while just to realy take it all in the depth and beauty are breath takeing thankyou again for showing us 👍👍
There are a ton of these (non engraved) Lugers out there. So, engraving a fully matched Luger should not be considered a bad idea. It is a shame that the engraved base gun here is not all matching. I should add that American-type engraving scroll is nice, but not natural for a vintage German pistol. The relatively large scroll does not work on some of the small-width panels of the Luger and therefore (as in this case) the engraver ends up applying non- matching patterns. Nothing beats the period correct, eye pleasing fine detailed Oak leaves engraving on the Luger. Now, I think I just opened Pandora’s Box (watch the comments)
I hold the opposite view. This Americanized modern-engraved Luger strikes me as garish, degraded, and ugly---similar to a beautiful woman made hideous covered with tattoos and with ten pounds of metal skewered through her nose, lips and other body parts. I would be angry if this atrocity had been committed to an original, all-matching Luger, but don't give two hoots about this mix master gun. If you're gonna Bubba something, do it to an example with no true collector value.
Hi Tom, really enjoy your videos! I would say that as regards the non-portable, cased NSFK table medal that "Der Korpsführer" means that it was awarded BY; or on behalf OF, the Corps Leader rather than it being awarded TO him. 👍😎
Great video as always. Love the guns and the history lessons. That engraving on the Luger is insane. I would love to know how many hours it took to do that.
a few weeks ago you have several guns for sale around a $1k or so, i tried to get on you site and bid on one, and could never get on the site to bid/buy a gun, How do i get on your site to bid or buy a Walther PPK or Luger
When you tell a Tyrolian he is German you have eventually a fight on your hand. After that a Tyrolian will offer you a beer and he explain the difference between an Austrian and a German.
Whoa Tom. Gun porn is all fine and good, but naked ladies and standing “O” for release of eggs from ovaries is uncharted territory... ;). But seriously, GREAT video again. That Luger barrel is simply amazing. That cased disc is very interesting. Thanks as always. Legacy Rocks!
Regarding Ben Shostle, he did a bunch of guns in his unique "heavy" style. I would guess over 500 guns to his credit. He was quite personable and was at all the major gun shows for many years. But I don't think anyone, including Ben himself, would have put his work in the Master category. It was fast deep work that covered a lot of territory quickly. Comments regarding the hard metal are erroneous. Most gun parts are relatively soft to cut* Even the necessary "hard" parts such as a hammer on something like a PP are not hard to engrave. Cutting the depth as seen on this P38 is essentially normal stuff. Nothing special at all other than a little extra time. It is true that guns engraved for the factory were often cut prior to heat treating, but the hardening process certainly does not make most guns un engrave-able. For reference, 14K gold is hard to engrave than most gun metals. * there are exceptions, Springfield 1903s, Winchester Model 31s, NAA mini revovlers are some of the common hard exceptions that engravers will often refuse to work on ... OR charge much higher prices due to the extra sharpening time required. .
2:20 Ovulation is the release of an egg from your ovary, into your fallopian tube. It typically happens (1). Like your period, the timing of ovulation can vary cycle-to-cycle, and you may have the odd cycle where you don't ovulate at all. Standing......LMAO
Would love a vid on collecting mistakes. Or some blunders and bloopers you've had along your journey. I think everyone could learn from that.
Great video, Tom, highlighted by the standing "ovulation" at 2:19!
:D

Thanks Tom for another great and informative video.
And kudos for donating the ring proceeds to charity!
That engraved Luger is awesome!

This was a motorcycle Race, according to some research I have done since watching this. This link should take you to a page showing the race course.
BTW the Danziger Straßenmeisterschaft was a motorcycle race on June 10th 1934.
I am sure the engraved Luger will bring both sides of the argument in the comments, but I have to say, he did a beautiful job and it is truly art.

You do know that you can anneal metal, meaning sooften it again and then harden it again too?
Now I know. Thanks.

Danzig was a free city, semi-autonomous under the League of Nation protection (1920-1939)

Great video as always although some of the photos you feature during the explanation of Germany between the wars are from England.
The 7.65 and9mm luger magazines are identical so why are the 9mm magazines caliber marked?

Thanks of the education. I like the liederhausen. !
@@LegacyCollectibles That was not an offense! More kinda joke with a bit truth in it. I love your Videos! Grretings from Austria!
Thank you!!! Iove takedown videos!
is that gun still safe to shoot after engraving so deep into the barrel?

It is not gun PORN, it is GUN EROTICA, that is a big difference, one is hot steamy vulgar, the other is hot steamy sofisticated. 😊 Both works!
Wouldn't engraving that deep effect the integrity of the steel?
Do you ever sell empty walther p38 boxes??!?
When I get them. Havent seen one in a year or more.

That engraved gun at the end is silly
I didn’t know a man could go through ovulation 😆😆
Thats why he is in intensive care
The guy is in intensive care because he is ovulating , but he bought two guns so he’s gonna be ok
Along with our leader in same step and strength, we march for our eternal Germany.
best translation i can imagine.
You got some bling going on there. I’d take that EB ring, melt it down and make a grill out of it for my teeth.
