My codger blends are both Velvet and PA - Both are great, super smooth easy smokes. PA is great with a hint of chocolate very mild and for me the sweetness builds as you get deeper into the bowl - A classic all day easy smoke. And you’re right, it smells exactly like a bunch of damp fall leaves 🍁 - good review 👍

I do the same thing. Man I've really fallen in love with Prince Albert in the past couple months. It just keeps getting better while remaining the same. Next codgers in the drawer are Half & Half and Sir Walter Raleigh. On a Virginia run at the moment. Stick around and I'll have some videos on them for sure.

P.A. is one of those wonderful old codger blends that is timeless 😃. Carter hall is another great one to try. I have some vintage P.A. from the mid 2000’s that I’ve been aging and it does get better with time in my opinion so it’ll be fun to see how your very vintage P.A. taste in comparison 👍👍
    Have a great day

If you're looking to build a reference for what the individual tobaccos taste like, I might recommend looking up the C&D "Blenders Series". They sell them in the can as solo tobaccos, and might be what you're looking for.

@@TheNovicePiper Grabow used to presmoke their pipes with PA in the 1950's. US diplomats gifted some to Stalin in WW2 like how they gave the USSR & UK mass produced Ford trucks and Sherman tanks. So it was a very classic US blend in its time, maybe the most quintessential US name brand pipe tobacco so far.
      All the best.

@@rakovsky3901 Interesting stuff! I saw some footage of the Grabow smoking machines (I think that was Grabow)...they were wild. Just a rack of metal pipework with briar bowls affixed to it, all puffing away smoothly. Very cool.

      @@TheNovicePiper
Edgeworth was another classic blend that Grabow was pre-smoked with and that US Diplomats gave to Stalin. So Edgeworth would be one of the most iconic US blends after PA.
The Grabow company presmoked their pipes with Larus Brothers' Edgeworth RR before they presmoked their pipes with PA. Nowadays Larus Brothers' Edgeworth RR is a collector's item. Lane's made its own version of Edgeworth RR that some collectors have. I tried Sutliff's RR MATCH and it's good, although PA is a bit better IMO and in the opinion of alot of reviewers. both PA and Edgeworth RR are rather similar- Burleys with a light chocolate topping.

This is interesting...I hadn't thought of using it to reset my pipes. No issues with ghosting in my pipes yet, but I sometimes experience ghosted "senses," if that makes sense. I'll smell or taste a tobacco when I'm nowhere near the pipe. Does that sound familiar to you?
