    Cody Rhodes is really a very inspirational person and has a motivational story for anyone who feels discounted, overlooked, and decides to take their own fate in their own hands

    • @tdylan
      @tdylan 9 місяців тому +1

      I think Cody's story also shows that you need powerful allies. In his case, the fans. It's similar to Daniel Bryan. It doesn't matter how much they've "worked for it, earned it or deserve it," the people in power still have the ability to deny you simply because they want to. Without the outcry of the fans, Cody (and Daniel) would have been paved over or worse, "made an example of." It makes me think of the way WWE treated Zach Ryder in spite of how popular he was. "We didn't choose you. How dare you make yourself popular without us? We are going to make an example of you so that other people don't get the same idea."
      The Rock would have usurped Cody in spite of Cody taking his fate into his own hands were it not for the fans supporting Cody the way they did, and someone like Vince no longer being in place to say "F the fans! We're doing what I want."

    • @michaeld1889
      @michaeld1889 9 місяців тому +1

      @@tdylan I also think that Cody had an ally in Triple H. It is clearly evident that they respect him greatly, and not just because of his father and older half brother, but because of the guts that it took to create AEW and help launch it. PLUS, they knew that talent would be watching Cody closely when he returned. Will they punish him? Will they humiliate him? Unfortunately, there is a long history of the WWF/E stealing talent from other companies in the 80s and 90s and mistreating them entirely, just to destroy them. I feel like Triple H, especially, wanted to right that wrong...especially in light of the criticisms involving both Daniel Bryan and for that matter CM Punk. I'm not blind to Triple H's golden shovel days, but I think he's trying to do better now, especially since his Legacy (no pun intended) is secure.

    • @michaeld1889
      @michaeld1889 9 місяців тому +1

      @@tdylan Oh, and forgot to say, I think you are 100% right. Especially when the attempt was made to usurp his title shot for the Rock. That is a reminder that the old days aren't exactly over, but they spun that into gold as it fully endeared Cody to the fans even further, and may have won over the "internet" audience that CM Punk referenced in his Ariel interview.

    Cody Rhodes story resonates so much with me and I know, with so many others. I have such a close relationship with my father and cherish when I make him proud. I love the emotion of Cody and how he wanted to win the title not only for him but for his father. It brings a joy to me that he still fought for that dream even when dusty was gone.
    I had a conversation with my father a few months ago about him wanting to move back to our home country of New Zealand even though the love and friendship we have is extensive. This has laid heavy upon me as if I am about to lose him but Cody gives me so much strength and hope.

    "There was a time
    I used to look into my father's eyes.
    In a happy home,
    I was a king, I had a golden throne.
    Those days are gone.
    Now they're memories on the wall.
    I hear the songs from the places where I was born.
    Up on a hill across the blue lake,
    That's where I had my first heartbreak.
    I still remember how it all changed.
    My father said:
    'Don't you worry, don't you worry, child
    See, Heaven's got a plan for you.'"
    A rather fitting song for Cody in my opinion.

    My outrage when WrestleMania 39 concluded was extremely evident for a while. A year felt like a long time back then for Cody to finally get the finish to his story but with Vince slowly losing his grasp on creative control I did have much more hope. The amount of emotions I had felt for Cody’s buildup to win the WWE Title were more than I could ever feel for any 5 star match. To me it was a 5 star program, 5 star cinema and a 5 star story.

    At Wrestlemania 32's Axxess event, Cody cut a promo and was signing autographs as Cody Rhodes, which was weird because he was still using the Stardust gimmick on TV at this time. In the promo he said that if WWE did not let him wrestle the Intercontinental Championship ladder match as Cody Rhodes, then he would quit after Wrestlemania. Everyone in attendance thought he was just playing to the crowd, but he most certainly did end up quitting. This leads me to believe that he largely made up his mind about leaving the company before Wrestlemania 32. In hindsight, I really wish I recorded that promo.
