In this video I teach my friend Derek how to use Adobe Illustrator in conjunction with the laser to create a die to emboss an image in leather. I Apologize for the lack of production value in this video it wasn’t intended to be published publicly, but after looking at it I think there are a few valuable lessons in it that people can learn, if you watch this to the end. Please share your tips and tricks using Adobe in conjunction with the laser cutter in the comments below thank you everybody and happy new year!!!!

I just want to make it clear to all the lawyers in the comment section that this is a demonstration about turning flat artwork into vectorized artwork . none of these objects will be sold. and for all the people about to say “but what about this video aren’t you gonna make money on this video” i’ll probably make $1000 on this video across the entire year.. if anybody knows the person that drew the hammers and that anvil I’d be happy to donate all of it to the persons.

Hope that I’m not being a lawyer. I just thought it looked like it. Not a 100% recreation. Nor was I implying you copy righted. Sorry for any confusion. You are a king in my books, you don’t need my approval. Think everyone is Sue happy anyway.

I have the same reaction every time I have an idea and I'm able turn it into an object in an hour or two. The tools we have are amazing these days... They are much faster vehicle to connect our brain to the physical world... Great stuff Jimmy, Derek and Chris.

Impressively crisp. I made Christmas presents like this, but used a 3D printer for the die, and a simple vice plus home made jig for the press. The 3D printing achieves the same effect as the laser cutting, allowing a lot of fine control of the images and text, using a combination of inkwell and blender.

Jimmy I'm sure you can make some nice brass belt buckles with a leather embossed front, the possibilities are endless. You could even make a CNC impression on a Corian roller wheel( much like an English wheel) to do a continuous embossed design on the whole belt. The belt and buckle would go great with Diresta work pants, knife sheaths, tool bags

QUICK TIP: making that second circle, instead of copying and pasting, which pasted it in a semi random spot making you line it up again, you can copy then paste in place (CMD-F) and it pastes its directly on top, and then you can make it larger from the center holding alt, and youll save yourself some time. if you are using illustrator a lot like i do, small things like this helps speed things up.
