Hello, my TB575SS trimmer has gas shooting out of the little bb type device on the top of the carb near the fuel line inputs, I'm pretty sure this isn't normal. I have a good pic of the carb but don't know how to send it to you. This trimmer starts very easily after a couple of primes and idles normally but dies after about 30 seconds. Thanks for any help.
I have a Powersmart mower 170CC. Two days ago, my lawn mower hit a stump of a tree in the backyard. Since then, I cannot pull the string all. Sadly the protection period was over. Should I bring mine to local shop to be fixed? Any suggestions?
unfortunately no, they will not work on it, you'd have to take it to a hobbyist, to get an inspection but I hate to tell you that the engine might be gone.
I love these videos, and I'm gonna watch this to the end, but when I don't have spark or compression tester, my first thoughts are, "Time to replace it."
I followed the instruction on this video to clean out the carburetor all seemed good. .No clogged holes and it looked clean. So now I think it might be the timing being off with a damaged flywheel key. This video at the ends mentions watching out for stumps and I had to make sure my son heard that part of your video because that is exactly what he hit and now it won't start. lol So, do you have a video on how to replace the flywheel key on a powersmart? I think my key is broken and it seems difficult to get the flywheel off. There is these 4 screws on the side that I believe I need to remove but it looks like I need to take the fuel fuel thank out and the exhaust.
yes I just filmed one, where a power smart mower wouldn't starts so I had to check the flywheel key, but it was ok. The video will still help you get to the key, however I haven't produced it yet, only filmed it.
My Briggs Classic 35 runs well on idle but when under a heavy load or in hot weather it makes lots of black smoke. The air filter is not clogged and it has the correct spark plug but it has a low compression reading from when using the pull cord. Do you have any suggestions on what is causing this?
unfortunately, with low compression, and under load, the engine isn't compressing the air fuel mixture well, so it comes out the exhaust as black smoke, because of poor combustion. nothing will fix it unless you rebuild it with new rings.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Thanks for your advice. I have managed to fix it. I replaced the diaphragm and gasket in the carburetor and it runs very well no with no smoke at all now, so its not doing too badly for a 22 year old engine.
I hate to say this but that Torch plug came with that engine. I have seem them on many of the Chinese manufactured engines. What makes it bad when the manufacturer installs those Torch plugs is that matching up the proper name brand plug can be a pain but not impossible.
I don't think it's vapor locked, so no. I'd check for spark, and then try priming the engine with fuel to see if it's an fuel/carb issue. After that I'd repair or replace the questionable part.
Quite [possibly I'd buy it, knowing full well what I was getting. I'd rather have a better brand but poor folks can't afford to be too choosy! Thanks and Blessings!
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE got it all back together still won't run.. the problem is this company uses a lot of plastic parts..I broke the handle trying to pull start it lol
I have a 200cc one bought on discount, stopped running after 20 minutes, no spark but will shock you from plug wire, tried new plug still no spark, I unplugged the ground wire to kill switch no different, any ideas? I can’t return it no warranty 😵💫
I don't know, I haven't had to get anything for it. If I recall, the manual gives you all the part numbers, you just have to put numbers in a search engine and see if anyone has the parts. personally I would never get or use this mower. I'm not a fan of it at all.
unfortunately, you'll have to do a search for stations that have no ethanol in it. From what I hear, though, I think you might be out of luck. You can put additives in your fuel to counteract the Ethanol though.
This mower is made possible by people who confuse "new" with being "better". Where I live, it's pretty easy to find a used, self-propelled Craftsman or MTD-family mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine and a bag that has been "flipped" after a tune-up for an asking price of around $120 (and often negotiable down to the $80-$100 range)...basically about half of what this poorly-constructed one costs new, and without the worry of trying to source hard-to-find parts for a no-name brand should something fail.
Theres certain type of stuff especially equipment, id rather invest more money to get a certified quality one, toro is my fav brand when it comes to mowers and echo or stihl for string trimmers, ironically i happened to get a Husqvarna blower lol
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Briggs & Stratton 500E series. Gets only ethanol gas treated with marvel mystery oil. Has a petcock and fuel filter installed on the fuel line. Exercised twice a month during the off season. Never an issue.
Hey at least it has a metal deck instead of a cheap plastic one, and it uses a primer instead of an auto choke so that’s one less thing to break on it.
That's an awfully short fuel line. I wonder if there are fuel shutoff valves that are small enough (short enough) to actually be able fit in that short line (I mean there really isn't much play there to work with).
I notice you typically warm up the engine before an oil change. Oil flows easier and removes more sludge? That said, oil is at top end of engine when run. If you change it cold are you not capturing more oil since it’s all in the sump/ pan and none in top end of engine? Plus less chance of injury of hot oil? It may take longer but I usually let it sit and come back to it.
you are absolutely right it's best to change it when the engine is warm. however, if you don't want to run what's in the engine, for whatever reason, a cold change is better than no change.
😂 I spend more time researching purchases than actually using things. I consider that time part of my self warranty program. Even then I sometimes get screwed. 🥲
I won't work on these mowers anymore....I had 2 of them and parts are very hard to find... I found an "oem" carb for it and everything was right except for the fuel inlet was for a much smaller diameter fuel line...I couldn't make it work...I was going to use a barb to bard reducer but there simply isn't enough room between carburetor and gas tank.... Terribly designed mower + cheaply made + parts impossible to find = me staying as far away from it as possible
I had a Powersmart mower. Bought it around middle of August of last year. Mowed 2 times a week. Lasted till middle of September. Piece and price of junk
Sadly, I don't have compression or Spark plug testers, or really any other tools, for that matter, except for maybe some hammers and screwdrivers, so there's not much a non-handy guy like me can do to get this thing running.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Wish I did buddy. The thing runs all choppily. I wouldn't Know a ratchet from a socket, so when it comes to opening stuff up, it kind of goes over my head LOL. About all I can do on my cars are fill Air in tires, and fill washer fluid. I wish I was born with the handyman gene, ROFL!
That $169 mower last year is probably $219 this year. If I had one that I had fixed to “New”, I would target 50% of the current Box Store price, in this case, I would put it out on FB mkt place at $125, and would expect $100.
Only this mower have problem starting., my old mower can start easily . And when it stops running, never restart. Have to wait for the machine to cooling, about a hour, then it could start again. oooo
If overall economy REALLY matters, buy a quality machine and take care of it. Anymore, that means you buy a Honda or something with a Honda engine. Spring for an hourmeter while you're at it. If money's tight, I'd look for a good used Honda instead of a brand new Chinese question mark; when that discount mower breaks down -- and it will -- good luck finding parts or anyone who will work on it. It's unfortunate that there are so few sound choices anymore.
don't fix it throw it in the trash i had one mid second season it broke took it apart and they did not put a sleeve in the aluminum cylinder and it wore so bad that the piston tipped sideways and dug a wedge in the cylinder and locked up the first sign is it will start at times pore out huge clouds of smoak out the exhaust!

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yes I did three passes and it quit
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE got it all back together still won't run.. the problem is this company uses a lot of plastic parts..I broke the handle trying to pull start it lol
I have a 200cc one bought on discount, stopped running after 20 minutes, no spark but will shock you from plug wire, tried new plug still no spark, I unplugged the ground wire to kill switch no different, any ideas? I can’t return it no warranty 😵💫
try putting some fuel into the spark plug hole, and then try starting it.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE didn’t do anything, I ordered a new coil for it. It’s made in Mexico I think 😳😵💫 the Powermaster mowers
okay let me know what happens
Is it hard finding parts for this brand of mower?
I don't know, I haven't had to get anything for it. If I recall, the manual gives you all the part numbers, you just have to put numbers in a search engine and see if anyone has the parts. personally I would never get or use this mower. I'm not a fan of it at all.
Where and how can I get fuel without ethanol ? I am here in Canada
unfortunately, you'll have to do a search for stations that have no ethanol in it. From what I hear, though, I think you might be out of luck. You can put additives in your fuel to counteract the Ethanol though.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Thanks
This mower is made possible by people who confuse "new" with being "better". Where I live, it's pretty easy to find a used, self-propelled Craftsman or MTD-family mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine and a bag that has been "flipped" after a tune-up for an asking price of around $120 (and often negotiable down to the $80-$100 range)...basically about half of what this poorly-constructed one costs new, and without the worry of trying to source hard-to-find parts for a no-name brand should something fail.
thank you Ed Sanders.
Was this a Briggs engine?
no it's some overseas engine,
I'm pretty sure this is the same engine or similar to the Chinese engines they use on the cub cadets
If the mower cuts nicely, sure buy it, however, maintain it and any mower like you spent thousands of dollars for it, and it will last a long time.
wow, that's the best way of putting it. I'm going to have to start using that phrase.
Lol thanks so much will recommend my mom never buys this again 😂😂
Best advice ever
If I had a large yard, I'd buy a well known brand of self drive mower. The push mower I have is adequate for my back yard.
that makes complete sense, thank you Christopher Marshall.
Excellent video. Great knowledge, than you.
Glad it was helpful!
Theres certain type of stuff especially equipment, id rather invest more money to get a certified quality one, toro is my fav brand when it comes to mowers and echo or stihl for string trimmers, ironically i happened to get a Husqvarna blower lol
nice, did you buy the blower, or was it given to you?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE bought, needed a backpack one
Thats the mower I stare at online wishing I could buy if only my 6 year old Murray wasnt working just so damn well.
Nice Murray, which engine does it have on it?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Briggs & Stratton 500E series. Gets only ethanol gas treated with marvel mystery oil. Has a petcock and fuel filter installed on the fuel line. Exercised twice a month during the off season. Never an issue.
Hey at least it has a metal deck instead of a cheap plastic one, and it uses a primer instead of an auto choke so that’s one less thing to break on it.
hey , you're right, that's a good point.
That's an awfully short fuel line. I wonder if there are fuel shutoff valves that are small enough (short enough) to actually be able fit in that short line (I mean there really isn't much play there to work with).
yes it is short, I would suggest using a 90° fuel valve instead.
my small engine mechanic said it was sadly garbage and to throw it away
yes I agree, put it on the curb for someone else to deal with
I notice you typically warm up the engine before an oil change.
Damn. Only one year of use? My Craftsman with the Honda engine has been going for fifteen years and I don't have to do any of that.
I know right!
Biggest pos mower I've ever bought or had.
yes these are not good
The machine is not starting we tried allot of stufff from videos it still does not work
have you tried putting a small amount of gas in the carb's throat and try start it? tell me what happens.
Fuel shut offs should be standard on these engines.
I know right.
Has anyone had any luck finding replacement parts? Got one of these that wont run. The carb is also leaking and the bolt was cross threaded 🙃
I haven't had any luck yet.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yikes. Not what i was hoping to hear lol
If I had a budget that I had to keep, then ya I would buy a cheaper lawnmower, but if money wasn’t a object, then I would but a better quality mower.
well said
Its junk had one threw it out. Could never get grass cut without a
Problem. Bought a good quality mower.
that would make sense.
Mine wont stay running after like 2 minutes
either the fuel cap is bad, or the carb needs to be replaced.
U don't always get what u pay for
Half the time u get robbed
lol.. you're right about that.
😂 I spend more time researching purchases than actually using things. I consider that time part of my self warranty program. Even then I sometimes get screwed. 🥲
I have that one it’s a 161cc it want start 🤦🏽♂️
hope you can figure it out
I won't work on these mowers anymore....I had 2 of them and parts are very hard to find...
I found an "oem" carb for it and everything was right except for the fuel inlet was for a much smaller diameter fuel line...I couldn't make it work...I was going to use a barb to bard reducer but there simply isn't enough room between carburetor and gas tank....
Terribly designed mower + cheaply made + parts impossible to find = me staying as far away from it as possible
you are correct these are not worth it.
I had a Powersmart mower. Bought it around middle of August of last year. Mowed 2 times a week. Lasted till middle of September. Piece and price of junk
you are right, these really are absolute junk.
Sadly, I don't have compression or Spark plug testers, or really any other tools, for that matter, except for maybe some hammers and screwdrivers, so there's not much a non-handy guy like me can do to get this thing running.
do you have any handy friends? don't give up so easily.
If the mower is $169 new, if someone can’t fix it themselves, it’s a throw away. Sad.
I know right.
That $169 mower last year is probably $219 this year. If I had one that I had fixed to “New”, I would target 50% of the current Box Store price, in this case, I would put it out on FB mkt place at $125, and would expect $100.
Lol.. you got that right, thank you haneyoakie14
That bowl ate clean is dirty there is dirt in bottom of carburetor bowl
thanks
Only this mower have problem starting., my old mower can start easily . And when it stops running, never restart. Have to wait for the machine to cooling, about a hour, then it could start again.
oooo
that is a very frustrating problem to have
If overall economy REALLY matters, buy a quality machine and take care of it. It's unfortunate that there are so few sound choices anymore.
you are correct, however, I don't have a problem buying a briggs or Kohler, they just have a different set of issues to watch out for.
I Would rather buy a better built used machine. I am definitely not a fan of power more .
thank you Brian King.
Mine was a 400$ piece of junk
wow, sorry to hear that.
Since it didn't come with a fuel shutoff I would have expected you to install one.
I would if I cared to keep it but I'm going to give it away.
don't fix it throw it in the trash i had one mid second season it broke took it apart and they did not put a sleeve in the aluminum cylinder and it wore so bad that the piston tipped sideways and dug a wedge in the cylinder and locked up the first sign is it will start at times pore out huge clouds of smoak out the exhaust!
wow that's some damage
No, I would not buy it. The screws holding the handle in place break easily.
yes you are correct
own one runs like crap, almost impossible to start, cheap chinese junk
These mowers are pieces of cheap crap. I’d steer clear.
thank you Rodgerwilco91
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE sure thing. I’m beyond frustrated with mine! I’ll never buy another powersmart product!
I always purchase the best quality I can afford at the time. Now that I’m working on small engine equipment, freebies from much higher income brackets fall in my lap constantly. Sweat equity goes a long way.👍🔧🧰
you got that right.
Amen!
