I never figured out the door on the original, I had to buy a magazine with the walkthrough. When I realized you could crawl underneath it, I got SO mad.
Teenage me was literally screaming "You can do that!?", LOL.

I am halfway through and already astounded by all of the new embellishments. The parallel dimension beneath the spheres was so unexpected that I expressed some very colorful ... expletives of excitement. The whole experience really does resurrect memories of a first time exploration of Riven. I never lose my fascination and enjoyment of immersion in the MYST saga. Thank you again for such a lovely journey. Cheerio!
@@slbagwell after beating the game it is so fun going back and watching people such as yourself who also enjoyed the Myst saga. It is so nice seeing so many people play through something that inspired my imagination while I was a kid.
I was soooo stuck and now I know how to continue Thank you I love these journeys with you :>) Please move slower though the quick movements are tough on my old eyes.
Apparently there’s a hotkey to quickly equip the magnifipying glass thing instead of opening the backpack 🎒 lol

Looks great! And if I were to ever venture back into Riven this is the way I'd want to do it. But today, I know my PC system just won't be up to snuff, and also the remake is expensive for me in this current economy.

You missed when you first entered the village, you can see the little submarine moving around down there so Ghen is in there. Maybe go back to a new save and look sometime. It's spooky haha

Game looks amazing. These textures are really high resolution, must be a huge game to download.
Yeah, the main problem with Obduction was that it wasn't playable unless you have a dedicated gaming computer, because they insisted doing everything in super fancy realtime 3D. I suspect this will have a similar problem.
@@RegebroRepairs For me its not a problem, its a major selling point :) Besides i dont think you need a massive gaming computer for this, high resolution textures isnt a very demanding feature on real-time performance its just that they take up a lot of vram and disk space. Theres also probably a setting for it :) Good luck!
@@erikm9768 Space is cheap. Even with worst settings Obduction was slow, and lost much of it's beauty. I think the cost for this will be the game + a new graphics card. 😀
@@RegebroRepairsgames these days are high spec requirements for such diminshed returns with the visuals, but they’re still beautiful though.
@@RegebroRepairs Ok fair enough, I have no idea what the performance is like, i just imagined it wouldnt be so bad but perhaps it is!
The game runs quite well on older or less powerful PCs but you'll see graphical and loading lag on those.
What about laptops?
So I’m playing the original Riven on my iPad and when I do the turn style room puzzle, when I go to the door to get to the spinning dome, there’s another door behind the gate I raised, and in your game it just looks open. Is that a change or did I miss something?
That's a change. I couldn't remember how the original worked that puzzle, but there must be another lever to open that second door. I'd have to play the original again to remember. It's been awhile.
Awesome video. You might want to bring the audio of the game down a bit. I cant hear you when the game gets too loud. Also thanks for not destroying the bridge.
Thanks... yes, as I watched part of it back I realized the game audio was a bit loud. I'll fix it in the next video.

When did they make a remake??
They've been working on it for many years. It just came out June 25th.
god I wish they had found a way to salvage or remake the original FMVs... these character models are the one blemish on an otherwise perfect remake
You can't be serious. How could they have incorporated flat videos into a 3D/VR game? Wouldn't locking the player into a fixed position and POV every time a cutscene plays out be a considerably worse "blemish" on the experience? What a ridiculous thing to whine about.
@@amy_grace Did you even play the original games? I guess not because you'd know FMVs worked just fine with the 360 view in Myst III and IV. The game doesn't ever let you walk around in scenes with the other characters anyway. For a lot of us who actually played and loved these games growing up, the FMV is a big part of what makes Myst feel like Myst. It's a fair complaint and if you do a little looking around you will find a ton of people share this opinion. But go ahead, keep on being combative toward random strangers on the net for no good reason, real great use of everybody's time.
