Recently discovered your channel and just from watching your painting a series process videos, I’ve gained more insight after many months of learning and creative block, I now know where to go with my abstracts. Love your practical and straightforward approach and planning, I realised why I often get stuck as I tend to overlook and overthink things, this has been such a great reminder and eye-opener. Thanks so much for sharing! x
What a wonderful comment, thank you! I'm so happy to hear that this has moved you forward. I do hope you manage to overcome your creative block. It's so easy to overthink and get stuck. When that happens to me I try to remind myself to just play with the materials and see what happens. But sometimes you also just need to take a (longer) break.
Thanks for sharing your videos which I enjoyed very much. Please , Jannine, could you tell us what criteria you rely on to judge that certain areas are distracting.
You are very welcome! That's a great question! And quite difficult to answer, because I do it intuitively. I suppose I have a few favourite areas in a painting. When I look at the painting (looking from a distance helps) and something catches my eye that's not one of those areas I remove it. Or if there are two very similar shapes (usually similar in size) I remove the one I like less. I hope that helps a little!
You 're right to say that it is a question difficult to answer because it deals with intuition which, I think, we gain with too much practice. And it is very easy to solve the problems if we have the same shapes or sizes or patterns or too much textures etc... And don't you think it is, sometimes' a matter of taste?
@@najjoujaataya8760 Absolutely! It's certainly a matter of taste. What one person thinks is too much or distracting is just right for another person. So I think the main lesson here is that it's important to get to know your own preferences.
It's the Daler Rowney Graduate Oval Wash brush in 3/4. amzn.to/3YViOnh I love that brush. It holds a lot of liquid, but also makes great dry brushing marks. Just saw they also make it in a 1 inch, so slightly bigger. I thought I already had the biggest size.
This series looks like summer to me. I love the mood of it all.
Could do with a bit of summer right now!

Can you tell me what the brand and the size is of your white 'fluffy' brush? It looks great

How do you frame your wood panels?
Hi Eric. I frame them with tray frames. You can watch me frame the wood panels in this video: ua-cam.com/video/Sail39oTPmw/v-deo.html
