I was 50 miles away in the backcountry when those storms came through. Just made sure I was camped and parked on high ground. Stayed put for a couple days before driving out so the roads were firm. Do not underestimate the flooding or mud out there!
Rory I do not understand with all your wisdom and experience why people don't pay attention to you. I watch you all the time and learn from you, and i'm alot older. Don"t stop teaching the rest of us who are learning from you God Bless
No No No... Don't teach them, I like stupid people, I have gotten so many good deals from idiots that play in mud, and even better deals from idiots that buy them and didn't test drive them or even look them over first, A little work and a few dollars on parts and I own another nice rig on the cheap.
@@theuglytruth8162 Well, rich and dumb sounds better than smart and broke... not really sure why smart people would be broke though, Oh well, enjoy your intellect. 😜🤑🤗
Customer owned his mistake & has a heck of a story to go with it. Hats off to him. The service bill will be a lot cheaper than repairs down the road. That truck was really buried in. Good work & nothing broken is always a win. The thoughts from Rory are a good help. Whether working in sand & mud, to snow & ice, the recovery methods are universal. Thanks for sharing.
Mike patting TrailMater’s tire and saying “you can do it” makes me smile. I do the same thing with my 2005 F150 with 345k miles. I depend on it to tow my 19ft travel trailer and keep the batteries charged. I give it praise and love every day! 😂👍🏼👍🏼
Hot damn you're doing well with a truck that has the sometimes problematic 5.4. Good on you. Hope it continues to serve you well. I'm just a hobby mechanic and won't do plugs on those anymore. I got lucky a few times and won't test my luck further.
That's a great way to presoak a rig to make the dirt easier to move. It won't clean much, but it beats laying under a rig with a pressure washer trying to soak caked and dried mud with low volume 3000 psi water. It does make for a redneck mud bath though. I hear people pay for that at specialty spas these days.
The Tundra owner is from Texas. He learned an important lesson about driving down a dry wash when a flash flood is imminent. It could have been a lot worse. Another pair of Texans perished in the Moab area just recently when they were swept away in their side by side.
FYI: A helicopter dispatch in Utah can be extremely expensive. My niece injured her ankle bicycling near Moab. The helicopter was a 10 minute flight away and flew about 8 minutes back to Moab where she was taken to the hospital. The helicopter ambulance bill was over $60,000. Her insurance paid only $30k. She still is making monthly payments of about $250/month several years later.
In the last several years federal legislation passed that actually significantly reduces if not outright eliminates air ambulance costs for areas that air ambulance is a faster choice than by ground vehicle. The goal was to make all ambulance services free but it turned out that was way more complicated so it didn't happen.
I'm glad you mentioned the dangers of flooding there. That seems to be a problem- people do not realize that rain could come from far away and go into one of the ravines and then that is where trouble begins!
that first spot that you pointed at a jeep gladiator was stuck. It was a friend of ours. He went to get the Toyota out but ended up in the flood. It was crazy. The toyota owner took his keys with him so we couldnt get him out that day. It took my truck (1990 chevy lifted) jeep wrangler, and a bronco to get the gladiator out.
The customer was lucky!!! that could have gone bad fast. Anyone not from flash flood country has no idea how fast they just "show up". Good call waiting for thing to dry, the recovery wasn't toooo bad and your rigs didn't get to trashed with mud. good job Rory and crew!!!!
I live in the North East and even I know about flash floods ,only really had 4 or 5 in 45 yrs but it's common sense, 3" of rain an hr, 15 miles away - uphill, it's comming

Years ago I was watching Ice Road Truckers and a 1/2 ton pickup had broken through the ice, got stuck and was abandoned. One of the truckers, Darrell I think, used his truck to try and pull it out, but it frozen in. He ended up ripping the truck to pieces. And the frame and wheel were still stuck in the ice.
We were in Colorado and Utah the week of the 4th of July. We were caught in a quick thunderstorm twice. We were amazed at how fast the water rises out there. Great recovery guys.
If I would have a significant dislike of Trailmater and Rory and recovery in general and in particular, I would still love the videography and the stunning sites and atmospherics it captures. Now try to imagine the fun I have because and in fact I really like all things and persons trailmatering gives me
Always nice to recover a fully functional vehicle without having to fix it first, which is a luxury Rory and team do not get often. Just really REALLY stuck.
Nicely done. You guys know and do so much, and share so much wisdom. Those flash floods are nothing to mess with. Some of the videos people have put out from that flash flood, Im surprised there wasnt more really awful results. I hope they find the missing Texas couple soon. So sad.
Super nice recovery !! Even after many many years that moab mud will be in the undercarriage. That Storm was Gnarly and I will definitely have another level of respect when I show back up in Moab the Best Off-road in the universe.
I found you and I hit the little bell to subscribe and all notifications right I’ve been wanting to watch you for a long time. I love your channel and I love it when you’re doing jobs with Matt and Robbie and all that keep up the good work guys.
I do have to give the owner some credit - he behaved himself well during the extraction. Just a little bit of wheel spin instead of the guys who just pin it as if 50 mph tires at a stand still will somehow improve things.

"Clean" is a relative term, especially in the offroad world. Clean means you've shed a hundred pounds of caked-on mud. I took my bumper cover off and dumped out ten pounds of gravel. it's all relative.

Sprinkler is an interesting idea. I used to just park the Jeep in the front yard, and hand wash all the dirt out of the cracks etc. Raised the elevation of my front yard a couple of inches over a few years of that.

I love the sprinkler suggestion to clean off the underside. Thanks.
Casey LaDelle uses a "Garden hose tractor" to wash the underside of his vehicles. Works good.

Rory is a book of vehicle recovery. He knows the cause and effect of how and why to rig up a recovery.

I love that he talks about “clean” with a vehicle that is the same color as rust
Beautiful patina rust I'll lovingly add 💚❣️
That's not rust. It's desert camouflage ;)
