The Act 3 Quartet from Verdi's Rigoletto performed by Joshua Guerrero (The Duke), Nicholas Pallesen (Rigoletto), Sydney Mancasola (Gilda) and Madeleine Shaw (Maddalena).
A tragic story of jealousy, vengeance and sacrifice, Rigoletto is one of Verdi’s most popular operas. Jonathan Miller’s much-loved ‘Mafia’ production makes a welcome return to the ENO stage, relocating the action to New York’s Little Italy in the 1950s.

Verdi's masterful writing comes across in this version - even though the English language doesn't have the broad vowels that makes Italian so effective for opera writing - bravo to the 4 singers !

Can we purchase these performances somewhere? I have the La Boheme with Alfie Boe and like very much that it is in English because I get tiered or reading the subtitles but I cannot find any other DVD's from ENO. I'd buy them all!

As I can’t make out the words it doesn’t matter to me what language they are singing. Wonderful singing nonetheless, but why oh why do the directors think they must update production. A duke in army uniform and his 20th century jester? Anachronism piled in anachronism. It’s like Julius Caesar in modern dress with swords and daggers.
