- A simple ambient jam on the Arturia MicroFreak and Zoom MS-70CDR.
My music on Bandcamp: waveformer42.ba...
The patches for the MicroFreak and the MS-70 are included below.
All is improvised using the arpeggiator and a custom patch on the MicroFreak, and delays and reverb on the MS-70. One of the delays shifts the note a fifth up on each delay, so the arpeggiated chords will typically get an added seventh (from the thrid) and ninth (from the fifth), and sometimes even a eleventh (if I play the seventh). During the jam, I play around with filter and envelopes, as usual, trying to find sweet spots along the way.
The Zoom MS-70CDR patch is included below. To load a patch into the MS-70, connect your MS-70 to your computer using a USB cable, go to g200kg.github...., right-click an available patch slot, select "Import Patch from text", and paste in this text.

The MicroFreak patch is named "ParkArp WF", and can be downloaded from the files section of the Arturia MicroFreak facebook group.
The audio is recorded on a Korg KP2S and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on iPhoneX. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 15.

Those that think electronic music has no emotion or soul are missing out on such beautiful music.
Myke Weblingo thank you, that’s kind of you 😊.
Goosebumps while listening to this ❤ The MicroFreak took me here and now I'm going to check your Bandcamp page.
Thank you 😊
What a tranquil piece!
Glad you like it 😊
I wonder what kind of damage you could do with 2 microfreaks.
jj rusy I have thought about it 😀.
Me too. I don't think there is another synth quite like it. One for bass, one for the melody.
This is quickly becoming my favorite channel! Love it!!
Craig Bratcher Thanks 😊😊😊
Nice. Very nice. And thanks for sharing the patch and other details.
richard irons Thank you 😊.
Love this
hey dude, nice playing! can u say, please - this korg is recording the sound bypassing the mic? just signal into wav? without sounding?
Yes, that’s right. The KP2S has a line in and records the output from the Zoom MS70, directly to a wav file on a SD card. I don’t use the mic or the effects on the KP2S in this jam.
That sounds wonderful, I enjoy😀🎶
Glad you liked it 😊
Very nice. Thanks for the Zoom patch! The MicroFreak looks/sounds like a very versatile synth. Another one on my wish-list now :-)
Nice work. What is that external battery for ARTURIA Microfreak?
A wonderful piece.
Philip+ Thanks. Glad you liked it 😊.
Really enjoyed the sounds you have achieved here form the MicroFreak. I usually find it too harsh and thin on many videos. Beautiful!
Cool sound, like!
Thanks 😊
Nice jam as always ! So many fun with so little gears, you're a creativity booster :-) and one of my favorite channels ! Thank you
I am speechless
Fabian Lazarte Thanks 😊😊😊
I love your music
Miguel Ángel Egido Pablos Thank you 😊
What's the purpose of the glowing cabbage? ;D
Hi, Wafeformer. Nice ambient. What porwerbank did you use for the Microfreak, please ? I'm looking one for my MF and any help is welcome. Thank you. ;)
I think more or less any USB powerbank will work. This one is called Zagg Ignition Pro 12. Just a random powerbank I picked up several years ago.
@@Waveformer Thank you very much. 😉
Incredible and hypnotic sounds.👏👏👏 Sorry for my ignorance, but how is connected mini kaos to record. I see that is connected to zoom but the other cable maybe it's the power adapter?
It’s a cable with two mono jacks on one end (connected to the zoom) and one stereo mini jack on the other end (connected to the KP2S ) 😀
@@Waveformer yeah, I know it. but, I referred to the other cable connected to KP2S. Perhaps the power adapter. Thanks in advance.🙏
So good dude, I really want to get my micro freak lol I’ll be running it with an iPad and a Moog sub Phatty for now.
Myriad Dubstep I really recommend the MicroFreak. It’s a great with all the hands on controls and the very flexible oscillators.
Gorgeous piece of music. I wonder what Arturia are planning to follow this little beauty with.
A Freak-Pro: two analog oscs, two digital (same as Freak but with more wavetables), dual filter (4 Pole Ladder + Steiner Parker like the MatrixB), MiniBrute S2 sequencer, 8 voice, bitimbral with a decent keybed with aftertouch. They have all the bits - they just need to glue them together with a nice price. Anything sub $800 would soar with those kind of specs.
Yes, that sound like a really cool synth 😎
@@Waveformer If we keep posting it on Microfreak jams Arturia might take notice :)
well, you have received your prayers, and minifreak is out haha
I love this!
dwdougherty Thank you 😊
So I just received my MS-70CDR from Sweetwater(all your fault lol) .
edit: There is a sticker on the box that says software "v 2.0 137 effects". I wanted to mention that in case you need/want to do that upgrade.( just a heads-up).
jj rusy Thank you for the heads up. I’ve done the upgrade to v2.0, and the new effects are great 😀.
This one blew me away! do you have multiple tracks going on at the same time or is it all being played as part of the same sequence? if so what's playing/recording the tracks?
Phillip Dugas no sequencers were harmed in the production of this video 😜. I didn’t use the sequencer, just the built-in arpeggiator in the MicroFreak. The delay effect from the MS-70 plays dotted sixteenths (or dotted eights, I don’t remember) which “fills in the gaps” between the notes played by the arpeggiator (oldest delay trick in the book 😀). Audio is recorded by the Kaoss Pad 2S.
Perfect
Tutunui Te Kanawa 😊🙏🏻
I thought you were Abel Beer or his brother when you first started popping up on my feed. Have you ever listened to them?
Joseph Wright yes, I’ve listened to them a lot. Lots to learn and great music.
I'd like to see the same kind of thing with a korg volca modular....maybe. 😉
Phil S Yeah, that looks like a cool synth. Haven’t tried modulars much yet 🙂.
Hi. Would you recommend mf to a noob to this tech? Im very interested in buying one, is it intuitive enough even without any previous knowledge? What is the hardest part about mf to understand? Does it have a constant exploration feeling/a-ha moment in it? Thanks
I'm really new to synths too and I find the microfreak really easy to work with. Just twiddle knobs till I like a sound, and the mod matrix is super user friendly. Def a great synth for newbies, but its very idiosyncratic so it may not teach all that much about synthesis. Tons of aha moments when exploring though.
Corey Newkirk as someone who is a few years into Eurorack, looking back, this is a very good starter synth. All others at this price point can only play 1 note at the time, Microfreak can play 4 in most modes.
333 Tarot 333 Tarot I think it’s a good starter synth. Hands on control of most parameters, lots of great oscillators, lots of possibilities with the modulation matrix when you’re ready to dive into that. But you can just load a preset or a blank/init patch and start turning knobs and you’ll immediately hear how that affects the sound. Good luck :-).
IMO, this is the best synth investment for
what do you use to record?
Looks like the little Korg Kaoss pad on the right :)
Marcus Bennett That’s right 😀. Stereo input, records straight to SD card.
