    Rifle is awesome but take a minute to appreciate his organization in the shelving behind him.. awesome. Like a store front almost lol. This channel is the best, thank you very much for making these videos for us.

    What I really enjoy this video about the barrel break in procedure. During the 60 and early 70s when I was a young lad the information available to guide us was not obtainable as is today. Too much folk lore explained the proper way of handling a new rifle only to lead to destruction of that barrel. Much appreciate your work X-Ring.

    It blows my mind that you can have a hand tight barrel with a set screw and have the most bullet proof system out there. Thanks for the review of the Proof stainless barrel, I may pick one up for my origin.

      It’s called good engineering which is why the AI is wha it is. Hands down the AI is hard to beat.
      The AI was highly sought after by the US mil even the 338 lap mag cartridge sets its beyond that of anything the US currently fields under 50cal, but can’t purchase due to the restrictive Remington contractural arrangements that it set itself itself into during the 80s.

    X, first of your videos I've watched as it came up as a suggestion given my love of modern sporting rifles, esp. of the 6.5 Creedmoor variety. Want to pass along my complements for the quality of blending both the technical and practical into something interesting AND informational. And for me, being succinct and using appropriate grammar is very refreshing. Look forward to reviewing more of your channel's offerings. All the best.

    Don’t be scared to swap between barrels, what I did with mine was pick what I considered the primary barrel which for me is my 18” 308 proof that I use for hunting suppressed, completely zero that barrel with both the scope and in your ballistic app or kestrel, swap to a different barrel and for that new barrel, record in your app and or kestrel the new offset in zero per that caliber in both elevation and windage and do the same per each barrel. We tested this at 3/4 of a mile going from my 6.5 creedmoor barrel to my 300 Norma barrel and 7mm mag barrel and was able to get first round impacts with each at that distance which is pretty impressive by just swapping the mag, bolt, barrel and to the barrel profile in my kestrel and AB app. Main thing is to make sure you keep the shoulder on the barrel and breech face where the shoulder mates up free of dirt and dust. If you’ve shot in a condition that’s dusty without a can on definitely take off the hand guard and wipe down the front of the action before doing a barrel swap.

    When the barrel moves upward when snugging it to the action face is because of the thread class fit difference . The barrel will hang down a little , more noticable at the muzzle, and then when the shoulder of the barrel snugs against the action face it trues up . The barrel will hang down before tightening because of the play in the thread tolerances so its not really an issue.

  • @wessfulton644
    @wessfulton644 4 роки тому

    Hi Ray. Great video as always. I'd just like to mention that seeing your new barrel "torque" away as you barely snugged it up against the receiver is something that just didn't seem right. If your 6.5 barrel doesn't do that then neither should that new 6mm barrel. It seems to me the mating surfaces should make contact at exactly the same time. It looks as thought the shoulder of the new barrel hit's "high" against the perfectly trued A.I. action and would then cause the barrel threads to actually try to "angle" their way in within tolerances between the action and the barrel mating threads thus causing the entire barrel to yaw like we saw it do. I realize that it's not tightened to any great degree but it still doesn't seem right. I don't mean to criticize but even great equipment and manufacturing can have flaws and I'm thinking that barrel isn't quite right no matter how well it shoots. Thanks again for showing us some great equipment. Wess

      @XRING  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Josh, I ordered it in the large commercial bottles. Everything was also cleaned and prepped properly. I had too many Thunderbeast brakes come off when removing the suppressor so I quit using the stuff. Tried it with zero success. Maybe it was a bad batch. 🤷‍♂️

    Never broke in a barrel aside from initial clean. Sight in throw a couple groups about 20rnds clean again and done. Plenty of rifles that shoot 1/4moa from all different manufacturers. I dont believe the theory that you are going to ruin a barrel without a precise ritual for break in. Most important thing is the first clean to make sure you are not shooting over debris and forming it into your barrel

  • @SpyStaMia
    @SpyStaMia 4 роки тому

    Thank you for your videos on barrel break in. I noticed that on your TAC 3 video a few months ago you used copper remover during barrel break in. In this video, you only use a carbon residue remover (Hoppes) only. Is this because it’s a clean stainless steel barrel and you are trying to promote copper to achieve equilibrium? Why is the procedure different for the barrel in the TAC 3? Thank you for your time!

    Question ray why what is the advantage going from 6.5 to 6 mm Creedmoor if anything 6.5 is superior second the accuracy international Rifles shoot lights out I own two proof research barrels there is no way in hell they match the precision of the factory bartline barrels

    • @XRING

      Hey Frank. I agree about the accuracy of the AI barrels. However, you can’t get an AI 6mm Creedmoor from them so I had to go Proof.
