- How to do a lawn flood fix with top dressing seed and compost, in this video after a heavy flood of rain my lawn was washed away which caused untold damage and meant my lawn had bif channels running through where the ungerminated seed couldnt cope with the amount of the water it had in a short space of time and ended up on the road
So today we sort the lawn out with seed 70/30 top dressing and jacks magic and seed

Your levels and standards are through the roof👌👌👌👌. What you called a disaster I’ve seen people on UA-cam over the moon with. By far the best lawn guy on UA-cam 👍. With the guy off lawn tips.
Great work Daniel…I Did two lawns with your advice from this channel . One for a friend and one for a charity. Hope to get some good results like you .
Great video, looking good. Have you ever used a compost spreader? It would save you a lot of time.
are those top dressing bags just sand actually? What type of sand should you put on a lawn?
Brilliant video again, I really enjoyed how you fixed the lawn after the deluge. My front lawn has come on a treat after using Jacks magic (Your recommendation) but like I commented before I really had to sieve mine, but well worth it. Where do you get the 70/30 There are very few places in Scotland that sell in bags. Great price for the Magic in Asda I am heading down shortly. Finally mowing up and down makes the lawn look "Premier".
A brilliant video Dan 20 minutes plus of lawn stuff and fun.
I tuned in last night (Friday) and guess what no Daniel Hebbert lawn expert I’m gutted!
Not had the weather to do any new vids mate
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert yes Dan you’re right it’s been pants I’ve killed of my front lawn renovated it and half the seed has been washed away! 🙄
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Just watched this video and you mentioned about coming to Sunderland, did you go? You could of come and sorted out my lawn that’s my area lol

Great job
One of my favorite videos in a while. I am facing similar issues and loved how you solved yours. Thanks for including the before and after in the same vid!
Would you do the same sand to magic ratio in the future?
Lovely jubbly........the magician
It’s been a labour of love that one Daniel. Looking good though. The stripes down the way make the garden look longer
Enjoy the match. C’mon The Whites! Geordie Dave 😉
7:55 did you mix sand with compost?
Hi Daniel
Do you think it’s too late to do a quick renovation of my back lawn having completed a successful one at the front?😀
I started a job on oct 8th once and fleeced it and it came through so its one of them gotta weigh up leaf issue first
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks - maybe worth a go as weather isn’t too bad for the next couple of weeks😀👍
Hi Dan, Great Stuff as always. Could I ask where you got your landscaping rake?
Screwfix
HAT'S OFF!!!
You are a lawn Wizard!! Brilliant stuff as always
Where can you buy Jacks magic from?
is this a RPR or PRG lawn? Are they both the same stuff?
Hi Dan, another brilliant video. Couple of questions. Do you throw the jacks magic down first then the seed or do you mix the seed with Jack’s before then throw down together? Or did I miss it completely and throw the seed down after you scarified and hoovered up with the Hayter? Also can you share what seed you use. I think on a previous vid you mention ICL but couldn’t find the exact one you use. Thanks
Seed first then add jacks on top, didnt film the seeding stupidly i forgot to press record
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert got it. Also the name of that grass seed if you’re allowed to say 👌🏼
@@1975Stevo barenbrug extreme follow the job on the other side of the drive starting with steves job part one
When you scattered jacks magic down like you did, you walk away and 3 weeks later that’s how it’ll turn out.. ? Nothing else to it. do you water it or just let the rain do it’s thing ?
That was just rainwater as was quite late in the year that
But will cut in between the vids probably once this one like on my last video i cut adter 5 days
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thanks mate, for the reply, Getting stuck into your videos, and no doubt be asking more questions. Can you please let me know the name of the sprinkler system this customer has. Thanks
great turnaround! im on the same timescale as this lawn and have followed all your steps so far, so was wondering what are the next steps you will do to take it into the winter and next year?
Dunno yet will just let it thicken up now on its own with nothing else going on it for a few week, gotta be careful about triggering disease this time of year
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert great thanks. keep up the good work!
The nettle plant 🌱 is used for medicinal purposes.
I remember getting stung by this plant when playing kickball. It hurts a lot.
Great stuff, your topdressing mixed with Jack's Magic..Was it just sand? Thanks! Mickey Hughes..Man City fan, you probably won't answer now 😄
i love my lawn and try my best to look after it, but how and what do i use to kill clover and creeping buttercup
Just a lawn weedkiller from the local garden centre will do the trick
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert no it dosent,
Daniel how come you don't use the Landzie compost spreader? It looks it will make your job easier and save you time.
Because ive no where to put it, ive not got 400 to spend on one and neither have probably most of my followers for such an over exuberance too spread compost once a year! My ethos is to use a little an expensive tool as possible, just hand tools most have in their ie a rake or a brush
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I see. Daniel you have the Midas touch. I fokw your advice on my lawn. Looks better but my lawn is bumpy as hell. Stay safe and look forward to your videos.
Always great content 👌. On a previous video did you mention a place not to buy Jack's magic, as I bought a pretty lumpy rough bag or did I just dream it ? Cheers.
I didnt someone else said they got a dodgy batch at wickes but ive never had a prob where ive bought it
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I must have had a dodgy bag, cheers 👍
Hello Dan, i realise in this video your that using this jacks/70/30 mix to solve an issue thats not really been helped with the lawns incline. But could this same mixture be used to fix undulations in considerably flatter lawns?
No still same problem its literally just to get the seed off to a good start
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert same problem as in, a deluge would still wash this mix away even on flat ground?
@@xabi1417 would rot away as compost does
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert right ok thanks👍🏻
Great videos Daniel, Think I’ve been through the whole back catalogue past 2 weeks. Which fleece sheeting do you use, seem to fluctuate from £400 germination fleece to £15 horticultural roll?
Just type in garden fleece on a roll in ebay or amazon, do not pay £400 pounds, i pay around 40 quid for a 1.5 mtr roll with 200 mtrs on it from my local hardware store
I am using Medallion lawn seed from Rolawn. Do you think I could get my lawn as green and nice as that?
No as medallion is rye, fescue, smoothstalked meadow grass and bent, if its not to late change your mind
You will struggle to get it growing as is a specialist seed
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Funny you say that because I've had so many problems. Most of the seed wont germinate. I've put seed down 3 times and the lawn looks very disappointing. I went for rolawn because I thought it would be better quality than the cheaper seed you buy in B&Q. Have I made a mistake?
@@matterpedematterpede they struggle to grow that seed so you habe no chance, stick to full rye
@@matterpedematterpede if you use the barenbrug extreme i sell in my store you will get those results u want as thats the same seed as i used
Always impressive work, shame my kids and dog keep ruining mine 🤦🏻♂️
I just bought your bio boost and I just reseeded. When shall I put the bio down and when can I cut. Do you do a yearly plan on how to feed your lawn?
You have just bought and just reseeded its 11.18 are you crazy?
No i dont do this as everyones lawn os different i just do it on my customers lawns and show you, temps differ all over the country at this time of year so difficult to cater for all,
If you have watched my seeding vids throughout the year then when to cut when to apply bio boost is in several of them, the same process applies regardless of time of year
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert want that stripe life.
Ok will try and find it. Your lawns look great. Hopefully bio will do what it says on the tin
Great stuff as usual
what sand u using
Too late to overseed now Dan? Just scarified but unsure if I should seed now or wait until spring?
Where r u in the world?
Uk i mean
Over in sunny Sheffield. Looking at 13/14 degrees for the next week or two with lows of 7/8
@@MrMattrowland im not doing any but thats me
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert yeah could be money down the drain especially with all this rain about. Thanks anyway, just wanted to gauge if it’s too late or not so will probably wait until spring.
Looks great
We're can I get your fertlizer can't see it on the e Bay shop?
Deffo on there
jacks magic has gone down hill vs how it once was.i sieved it and it has around 20% lumps of rotting wood and crap and a fair bit of sand but the back of the pack says 90% peat..growmoor topsoil from home and bargain seems much better mixed with a few big cheap coco blocks from wilko which has zero crap and kids play sand...that what the peat in jacks magic probably is.coco peat lol
Great update. I did wonder what you were doing with the water and top dressing in the bucket, looked a bit like mud pies. Then you reminded me of Robbie from premier lawns when levelling with the landscape rake there. Still think the drag mat would finish it of though 😁
Just to be clear i did my vid before he uploaded his so i wasnt copying this is something i have done for years

What type of seeds were used ?
Dwarf ryegrasd
Daniel, I never hear you talk about fungus. Why? The rye grass would get pythium blight now and again. How do you avoid that with all this rain?
I don’t avoid it, i get it in small amounts sometimes large amounts especially in the north west of England , we get more fusarium disease here, are you in the usa?
I do fungicide treatments but only in as a winter protectant but as these arnt available to the public theres no point mentioning them on the channel, those who live next to their lawn can do all the other thongs like sweeping dew off to keep it at bay where as i cant do these things as it wouldnt be good for business driving round all my jobs everyday sweeping dew off as would take me all day, so i rely on fungicides more so
Can I ask why you use Jack's magic? Why not a proper lawn top dressing?
Price proper top dressing is usually 70/30 kilndried and it costs now 180 quid a tn , dries out very quick too, if i need to fill in undulations then i will use this but for getting seed going its a good medium to use as has the benefit of bring bacteria into the lawn
Where can I buy jacks magic from?
Garden centres
Is that bog standard kiln dried sand?
Noooo DO NOT USE DRIVEWAY KILD DRIED SAND!!!!!! Its 70/30 top dressing
Kiln
Thanks
