I'm about to purchase a synth and don't know if I should buy this one the idxi or the microkorg-s. I write pop music. any one have suggestions?? need help asap I'm buying asap
I love the JDXi. Although it isn't the best in the world for deep sound control...it is wonderful at building the backbone of a performance. I have finally found a synth that I could take to a local jam!
GREAT demo! Thanks so much for doing the best job (of anyone else on UA-cam) at showing off the impressive capabilities of this remarkable little synth.
Nice tunes here, your talent speaks for itself. Also these demos show just how underrated the JD-Xi is. It's one of Roland's finest ever. Its Rolands' "Microkorg" but much better, and the microkorg is no slouch. Hopefully Roland will be as smart as Korg has been and keep producing the JD-XI for many more years to come.
I have a JD-Xi myself and love it. Your syncopated rhythm beats in the performance in the 20 minute range are brilliant! I close my eyes it sends my mind off to a very cool space! Great piece man!
great demonstration! We just purchased the Jd-Xi for the studio and i wanted to see some more of its capabilities. This is the best i've come across so far and it's fantastic! Great vid!
I have watched all the JD-Xi videos and yours is the one I keep on going back to. It really helps waiting to have the real thing in my hands :) Thanks, James!
I'm on sound cloud as Polyevolver. My profile pic is bright blue water themed thing. There's a wider range of what I make there. More videos are coming this year.
I've been looking at what i'd call these budget Synths from all brands and I still keep coming back to the JD-Xi. The sounds from this I find fantastic and the usability is amazing, there's something about Roland sounds that have me hooked so I think i'm going to have to invest in this little Synth.
Amazing Demo. I just bought one of these about a month ago and I'm so blown away by how amazing it is. Also Roland is awesome and is sending me their new official overlay for mine as the shiny panel got scratched over a few years of being out on the display floor.
Great demo of the sounds capable on this little synth, loved the "home n dry" version, you play really well. Thinking of buying this synth, was also looking at the mini nova, but decided this one's for me. Thanks for posting one of the best vids on this synth.
very kind of you thanks. I had the mininova myself and sold it less than a month later. poor build quality and a matrix that's only really usable when connected to a computer. you can make nice sounds but it's an arse to program to any degree of depth. thanks for listening
Really digging your piece starting around 10:15, Mr. McCulloch. Not to knock any of the other pieces of course, it's just that i don't use mine for the typical dance music type of stuff either. Really enjoyed your demo and appreciate your posting it. Felt kinda silly clicking on the video though -- mine's sitting on a shelf atm, doing that cute little screensaver thing it does...
Gary Numan Cars patch on JDXi - (Seq228 - Saw Poly with mod wheel at 30%). OMG!!!!! When I cranked this up and recognized that sound, the same sound Gary gets on his Polymoogs, then I REALLY loved this baby Roland!!!!
I have one on order. I spotted "Home & Dry" & "Domino Dancing" here! it was nice to hear the depth of the filter on the digital synth at the end of home and dry.
thanks man. the analogue sounds are all my own but the digital sounds you hear in this video are a cross section of presets and my own patches. Thanks for listening.
this is probably the most jazzy tune ive heard, this music is so my style!!!. it also kind of sounds like a game i used to play on gamecube, super monkey ball..
+James McCulloch oh man, I love it! And I'm working on a rig to incorporate my infinity looper, bass and sax with it too. Thanks again for the awesome video!
+James McCulloch oh man, I love it! And I'm working on a rig to incorporate my infinity looper, bass and sax with it too. Thanks again for the awesome video!
Out of all the minisynths out there, the JD XI has to be the most useful. It does so much! And it seems so easy to use. Some Korg synths have pretty cool sounds too, sure, but not that logical ease of use.
I really enjoyed this. I've been particularly enamored with the style of bass line that you started at the 3 minute mark. I'm wondering if there is a genre or musical style associated with it. It is reminiscent of some of the great stuff from the SNES video game era, particularly with games involving driving (F-Zero) or adventure RPGs (Drakkhen). It has such a wide open feel with unique momentum. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for this amazing performance video sharing! the song started at @2:53 can you explain or make a video about how you made 8 bar song? or at least if there is a video about that, can you lead me to that video? i am guessing by using half tempo. but i dont get it easily here. not yet own a jd xi, but i ll get one as soon as it hits the market :D
Nice job! I plan to pair one with an electribe 2 (which is an excellent drum machine, not-so-great synth). Waiting for it to come in the mail; the wait is killing me!!!
Omg! Please release the second song to the public please! Thumbs up if you agree ppl!
You're truly gifted. I'd have no problem listening to this kind of production for the whole day.
Neville Park very high praise. Thanks for listening.
That cover for Pet Shop Boys Domino dancing was amazing. I think I could jam on this board all day. It just sounds so fantastic.
Why 29 dislikes this guy is amazing.
One of the best JD-Xi demos out there! Great job!
thanks for watching 😀
great song patterns and smooth rich sounds... Roland is top notch for a reason when it comes to the synth sounds...
This demo made me buy the JD-Xi. THANKS.
I'm glad it was useful for you. please enjoy your synth, thanks for watching.
+Steven Streight Steven, and James if you haven't already, join the Roland Clan website, a great source for everything Roland!
It sounds fantastic, especially the drums.

The performance at 2:50 is definitely my favorite. I'm really looking into buying a JD-Xi after seeing its potential here.
GREAT demo! Thanks so much for doing the best job (of anyone else on UA-cam) at showing off the impressive capabilities of this remarkable little synth.

And upgrade it with quality keys precise knobs metal housing
track faders unquantized seq. velocity pad multiple outs etc...
Отлично! Под вашу музыку танцевать хочеться!
best demo/performance ever! Cool sounds and beats!! Great job!
definitely the best demonstration of the jdxi thus far...I'm sold.
Alexander H thanks for listening. glad you enjoyed it.
Hello from 2024! This is an awesome video of an awesome instrument. I have one and the possibilities are endless. Well done!
very awesome !!!
I have a JD-Xi myself and love it. Your syncopated rhythm beats in the performance in the 20 minute range are brilliant! I close my eyes it sends my mind off to a very cool space! Great piece man!
+Geoffrey Dautrich Thanks for listening, glad you enjoyed.

Love this! Good work. some Daft Punk vibes going on. I love that one near the 6 min mark. Sounds so good.
I have watched all the JD-Xi videos and yours is the one I keep on going back to. It really helps waiting to have the real thing in my hands :)

Hey, thanks for the comment. I've just bought the bigger brother of the JDXI, the JDXA. I'd highly recommend both synths.
I have looked at that, saw. a good performance on the JD-Xa by Kebu. Also got my eye on the Tr-8
love it. I just picked one of these babies up. nice to see what it's capable of. so far the only thing I've created is a spacey sort of soundscape
glad you like the video and hope you enjoy the synth. it's a gem.
This is so good.... god dayum
Amazing Demo. I just bought one of these about a month ago and I'm so blown away by how amazing it is. Also Roland is awesome and is sending me their new official overlay for mine as the shiny panel got scratched over a few years of being out on the display floor.
Uriel Ortega hope you enjoy it as much I did.
