We replaced the battery and it still didn't click. We were hoping one of you guys would go to the next step and tell us what to check if the new battery didn't work.
I bought a grill and after 3 days and one use, the ignitor is already broken. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work, does this mean the ignition module is broken?
i cant believe people are thanking you for telling them to replace a battery.. that should be the title of this video 'replacing a battery' because this isn't fixing, it's standard maintenance. my grill is just over a year old. new battery didn't fix it, WD40 didn't help.
jeanette paulson Many people aren’t aware there is a battery. The igniter didn’t work but does after they replace the battery. It’s “fixed”. People send their vehicles to a repair shop to get new batteries also because they didn’t know that was the issue...it’s a fix.
@@TightWadDIY Thank you for the video.. it didn't fix my ignitor unfortunately but i learned something new. I appreciate it! Now if it is my battery next time I'll know.
My igniter stopped working some time ago, and I bought a kit to replace it. No time to install, so for months I was using the butane lighter approach to lighting the grill, a real pain due to getting myself all greasy removing the grills and heat plates each time to get to the burners. Finally got around to cleaning and fixing the grill yesterday.. Cleaned out all the old burned grease and crud (I scrape and scrape and then vacuum it all out with my shop vac).. and then got my kit ready. When I realized that with my particular grill it was going to be a bitch to take the main burner out to replace the wiring, I took a minute to double check the battery compartment. Looked like the contact for the negative side of the battery (the contact inside the igniter box) was kind of dull. The way I cleaned it was to cut a thin strip of course sandpaper and wrap it lengthwise around the eraser end of a pencil, stuck it in the battery tube and rubbed away until the contact was all bright and shiny. Installed a fresh AA battery and voile: Working igniter! I also ordered a set of stainless heat plates to replace my rusted-out set, and so my grill will be just like new! Hope this helps some of you avoid messing with new igniters and wires.
So what if replacing the battery doesn't fix it? I literally replaced the starter with a brand new one this summer and now 2 months later it doesn't work even with a new fresh battery. Any thoughts as to why my starter seems to be dying?
Well that was easy, thanks! Our grill is around 13 years old and was still on its original battery. It looks like crap, but it works! I have replaced the heat plates 5 years ago and might new some new burners.
Not if you didn’t assemble the grill yourself and didn’t know there is a battery behind the button. Check out the 👍🏼 and positive comments. If that doesn’t work, you can replace the actual igniter by the gas orifice.
Genius. I was about to call a BBQ repair shop which charges $125 just to come out. Put a new battery in and the ignition works perfectly!!! Thank you so much for posting this video. Cheers.
Thank you! I am still enjoying the grill weather out here in So Cal! So being a single mom and super NOT wanting to go buy a new grill- I popped over to youtube and this was the first video I found, went my igniter wouldn't make that click sound! Everything worked perfectly! I'm so excited to grill chicken tonight instead of bake it! Thank you so much!
I never knew. Your video helped me fix the BBQ grill. Thank you. I was going to replace my switch. Being a single mom it helps get information like this.
This saved me from looking like an idiot on 4th of july weekend when people came over. I thought it was like a solenoid type solid-state device creating the spark... so easy and now my grill is like new! Thank you.
Worked for me and this was the first video I seen. I just took my bbq 1500 kilometers across country was to expensive to leave but mad it wasn't working. Thanks a million hopefully you make a couple bucks off the video.
At first, I was like: "WTF?? Did I hear that right?! Did he just call us all 'tightwads'???!" ...and then I scrolled a bit and saw the user name... so then it made a *_bit_* more sense at least!... (still a little odd, but whatever... I can live with it!)... lol :P
I picked up an old grill (side-of-the-road special), got it all cleaned up and running but couldn't get the piezo igniter to work. When I pushed the button, it just kind of squished in and there was no clicking. I didn't even know there was a AA battery inside these igniters and when I unscrewed the button, I found that mine didn't even have a battery in there! I popped one in and it works like a dream now...THANKS! Truly was a 2 minute fix, if that.
Thank you very much! The ignition/lighter was not working on my Weber Genesis gas grill. I watched a few other videos ad nauseam, and nothing worked. I came across your video as a last resort. I changed the battery, didn't know there was one there, on my ignition/lighter and it worked!
So if you've change the battery and it's still isn't ticking or coming on and u tried lighting it with matches still not coming on what s next? But the side burner is coming on when u light it with match tho..
Sassyloveist Beatrice The electric starter not ticking and the grill not lightning with a match are two different things. The starter not ticking could be a wiring issue if it still doesn’t work once you replace the video. The grill would easily light with a match if the gas is working properly. This could be an issue of the gas knobs being stripped out. It could be an issue with the gas regulator or a clogged gas line(uncommon).
Exit 25 GSP There could be other issues but the battery is the most common. I think you are on the right track. The next step would be to replace the wiring.
I dont know whether to be insulted that this man thought I wouldnt know to replace the battery, or feel sorry for all the people who actually didnt think to replace the battery.
Aaron Brown I bet you are fun at parties. This video has helped many people who didn’t know there was a battery in the igniter. *read thumbs ups* It wasn’t working and now it is so it is “fixed”.
Aaron Brown not everyone has this knowledge AKA ME! I just fixed a problem that I thought was going to be much worse... This video is not worthless but your comment is.
I guess this can be considered a fix, but i figured the video woulemd cover how to actually fix a broken igniter switch. 😒
I was disappointed too
We replaced the battery and it still didn't click. We were hoping one of you guys would go to the next step and tell us what to check if the new battery didn't work.
Mine did not work at first either. I had to clean off the connections inside the knob when I pulled it out. Then mine worked.
Didn't work. Next step please
Yes, I tried that. Trump 2020!
Yay! Perfect! Thank you.
My pleasure!

epf1961 I’m glad the fix was easier than you expected!
awesome, your hack worked for me :)
Wonderful , simple , and effective video! This video saved the day! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
drivendreamskev Thank you for the kind comment.
Omg thank you!! I was about to look into replacing the switch or getting a new grill all together! Who knew, such an easy fix!!
I’m glad it worked for you too!
Sadly, this didn’t work for me! Looks like I’ll be replacing my ignition.
So what if replacing the battery doesn't fix it? I literally replaced the starter with a brand new one this summer and now 2 months later it doesn't work even with a new fresh battery. Any thoughts as to why my starter seems to be dying?
ALL THE THUMBS UP!!!
Thank you!

Glad you found the video!
Amen, I used to just get a new grill...cant believe it was so simple to fix
John Williams I was surprised too! Glad you can save some money now.
Who the hell buys a new grill just because the ignitor went out?
@@sting2689 Same people that buy a new lawn mower everytime their carburetor needs to be cleaned
I replaced my battery a couple of years ago and it worked.. I replaced it this time and it's not working. I'm assuming I need a new agniter
Thats likely.
This should be title “How to change the battery on your igniter”. This doesn’t help if it actually needs “fixing”
Sorry bud. It wasn’t working and now it is so it’s fixed.
Perfect!
Was this your issue?
Useless. Changing the battery is a no-brainer. What if that doesn't work???
Not if you didn’t assemble the grill yourself and didn’t know there is a battery behind the button. Check out the 👍🏼 and positive comments. If that doesn’t work, you can replace the actual igniter by the gas orifice.
My Char-Broil grill is not igniting. I changed the battery and it’s still not working. Do you think the ignitor will need to be changed?
Patrick McGeorge Most likely.
A battery! I was risking setting my arm on fire over a double A. Thanks for showing us this :)
Haha! I’m glad you found the video.
Your video how to “fix” the ignitor was to change the battery?!!! 🤯
Yep. It wasn’t working…and now it is! Fixed.
Genius. I was about to call a BBQ repair shop which charges $125 just to come out.
Put a new battery in and the ignition works perfectly!!!
Thank you so much for posting this video. Cheers.
That’s great!
How do I fix my cheap wall clock when it stops working?
Throw it away.

Danielle Eyman That’s awesome! I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. Be sure to subscribe. I have tons of easy to follow home repair videos.
I thought we were going to see how to fix the igniter. The video should be titled how to change a battery.
Thanks for your input.
I would have scrolled on by if that was the title as I didn't realize there WAS a battery! Thanks for making and posting this how- to video.
I never knew. Your video helped me fix the BBQ grill. Thank you. I was going to replace my switch. Being a single mom it helps get information like this.
I’m glad you got it working again!
How do I change the battery in my garage door wall opener
There should be a cover at the bottom that slides off.
Show the igniter replacement.. it's impossible on kitchen aid.
Since when is changing a dead battery a "fix"?
When something isn’t working, and then you make it work again, it’s a fix.
Thanks!
Thank you for posting this video! I replaced the battery and now it works!
That’s great! I’m glad it worked for you too!
to think my neighbor is giving theirs away for free with a propane tank...
Father At least grab the propane tank! Those things are expensive!
This is amazing! Was pricing new barbeques because I wasn't going to mess with trying to put a new one in. Thank you!!!!!

Lonnie Fluty I’m always happy to help. I honestly thought it was more complicated at first too.
Worked perfectly and took less than 10 seconds
That’s great!
My batteries are brand new though.
You could have other issues as well. This is just the most common.
This literally saved me so much money lol 😆 Thank you so much for this video you have no idea

WHO PUT THAT BATTERY IN THERE ??
The store…
Those ignitors are junk
Agreed.
Nope. Changed the battery and installed new ignition switch...still nothing.
Same... guess i should have spent more on my grill. O wells haha
if something is not working, and you do something to make it work, that is a fix. regardless of how minor or significant the labor is.
Thank you soooo much! Had no clue there was a battery in there, lit up right away after I replaced it.
Elissa Macarin That’s awesome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I didn’t know they had batteries either until mine stopped working.

not sure how that is supposed to fix it. i did that still hear clicking not lighting still
Tom Jones The battery supplies the spark to ignite the gas. Are you sure you have gas,
Mine is the kind that snaps when you push it. I don't think it has a battery to replace.

Definition: Fix - To make whole or able to work again.
It wasn’t working and now it is.
I can't believe you made a UA-cam video on how to change a battery.
I know! Can you believe at least 700 people found this helpful?! Not everyone knows there is a battery in the igniter. Have a little grace.
wow I tried this!! IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡
Don’t be angry. The same fix doesn’t work for every issue.
I dont know whether to be insulted that this man thought I wouldnt know to replace the battery, or feel sorry for all the people who actually didnt think to replace the battery.
