Hey Tommy, I highly recommend trying out the new Schwalbe Albert (radial), Gravity Pro casing, Ultra Soft compound tire. It's the grippiest front tire I've tried. It's perfect for the SoCal loose and dry conditions. You'll need to add +3 psi higher than your usual tire pressure as they're very compliant and molds to the terrain. For the rear, try the Schwable Shredda Rear (radial).
Better start that rehab on the finger ASAP. The longer he waits the harder to get it working, if at all. I had a super bad one that wouldn’t close for over a year.
