I have always loved reptiles and in the past year have started keeping some as pets. Because of watching your videos I am now searching for wild snakes. Thank you for teaching me how to find and appreciate these beautiful animals
This guy is having a great time. I've been handling North America's gorgeous snakes for decades. Growing up in the country I would get calls almost daily from folks in the area wanting me to come and get the copperhead out of their chicken house or yard, wherever. 99% of the time these copperheads we're actually harmless snakes. This was before the internet day's. I rescued 2 real copperheads when I was 11. My grandfather was cutting a ditch through his field to drain excess rain water and dug up a old stump about 6 feet long. He saw movement but wasn't sure what it was. I was in yelling distance so he called me over to remove whatever was alive down under the stump. After moving stuff around out popped 2 copperheads. Fortunately I had a container on the tractor safe enough for transport. Anyway after 4 years of taking extremely good care of these magnificent creatures my science teacher asked me to bring them to class in a secured transport aquarium. The teacher was a stranger not a local hick like most of us. Anyway I obliged him and brought them to class. My teacher had already called natural resource police on me for having a venomous snake without a permit. The officer was my older cousin. The teacher was hoping for me to get in trouble. I forgot to mention he was also my football coach. His son was my age and just moved to my little town population 993 people. Anyway his father my coach wanted him to play middle linebacker like he did at his school. Unfortunately the head coach didn't favor anyone. You earn your position period. So thats why he set me up I played middle linebacker. Anyway my cousin took the snakes out to his vehicle then met me after school and told me to let the snakes go. I released them about 2 weeks later. I had to say my goodbyes. After all I've been taking care of these guys for along time. I took them to a really nice area far from people and plenty of food. Oh and by the way the cowardly science teacher moved back to his hometown so his son could play football. His son would have made a better cheerleader. Anyway thanks for reading and wasn't this a great video. That King snake was gorgeous. And our Northern brown water snakes are not venomous but they can bite like a pit bull bites a steak bone. I got one out of a mans boat one day. That snake was wrapped around fishing string and wasn't going anywhere. Once I got his head free so that he could breath right he tagged me good on my stomach. I would have been happier with a thank you.
Snakes have always terrified me. Your videos and vast knowledge have instilled respect for snakes, turtles, and amphibians. Since I don’t speak snake-Latin, please say Latin and English. Your grammar is very good. I have such respect for that. You sound as intelligent as you are.
Your content has really inspired me to get out away from my PC more often over the past few months or so. And thanks to my home bordering a massive forest with trails, Im able to go out on hikes and see what I can find. However tin piles and man-made objects are scarce along the trails, yet I've managed to find a good source of Salamanders beneath logs and some old tires. Most are just the usual slimly, but I've recently come across some beautiful Duskies, a magnificent red Blue Ridge Salamander, and lovely looking black salamander with a red tipped tail. That one Im not familiar with however. Update: I found my first snake species yesterday! And not just any snake, a hatchling Worm snake! I was SO happy!
Beautiful snakes! My daughter & I love animals. Last Good Friday, we saw a gopher and rattlesnake in our local hills. I'm sending this video to my daughter. New subscriber from southern California.
Nice video, again. My fire dept and I just spent three days searching for a missing 4 year old girl in some incredible East Alabama habitat...lots of timbers seen.
Great video as always, please keep it up. You remind me so much of myself when I was young. I was born in South Florida. Although I have spent most of my time on the West coast, near Tampa. Herping used to be very good here, but it is not what it used to be due to habitat destruction.
Beautiful area... We spend lots of time in The Creeks around Atlanta. Was trying to figure out that last Creek you were at. Looks kind of like Vickery Creek
The watersnakes are NOT having it lol. I get excited when i hear hognose.. they're my faves. Wish you'd had luck finding some! Glad you found that pretty king. :)
@@satelliteexile2089 Probably only about 25% of the gopher snakes I've caught ever tried to bite, or even made a bluff strike, but you're right that they're not smelly like water snakes, which tend to overdo it with the musk.
Enjoy the video....what counties are you looking in....I lived in Metro Atlanta (Newton country) for 30 years and never saw a Queen snake or some of those other water snakes. I used to see King snakes frequently. After retiring to Central Florida I've never seen a King snake here...not that I have been really looking. On the bicycle path it's all black racers, water moccasins, pigmy rattlers with occasional black striped orange rat snakes, corn snakes, green snakes, and an occasional coral snake (rare, had one in my backyard). Actually saw a couple of legless lizards. There are a host of Eastern Diamondbacks but you rarely see one unless you are looking for one.
Unfortunately in the south there is a tendency to kill every snake they find. It really bothers me that beneficial snakes are killed outright like that.
Dontavious Chandler I’m the south we got chickens and if there is a black snake I know it kills poisonous snakes and is harmless but when it’s in our chicken coops or in our yard near them we are gonna kill! Also kill rattlesnakes or copperheads because we got young kids running barefoot all the time and could save a life!
Selature ive lived in the south, had chickens and ducks. Collected snakes too. If you find a black snake, pick it up and take it and let it loose in the woods. Black Kings prefer other snakes as food so....
@@DavidBrown-it9ig exactly!!! I live in North Florida just outside of Bainbridge Ga and I grew up in liking snakes and understanding them. Not trying to be debateble or anything but in most cases if someone sees a snake (not all) it's really no major reason to kill one if it's not any threat to you, your family and or pets (livestock included)
Great video. I been herping a few times down here and found nothing nut Dekay's brown, ringneck, and garter. However, a friend of mine found a baby Eastern King which I kept for 4 months and then released. If you have a suggestion on any areas, please let me know. I also love herping for salamanders. Wow! I live in the area and I’ve seen very few of these species. I’ll keep my eyes peeled on my next hike. No telling how many I’ve walked past and completely missed.

I'll surely appreciate knowing what brand of boots you were wearing in Louisiana and if they are snake proof.. I live in Florida and want some boots for working in the yard and woods behind me.. I've see lots of snakes here and just have been lucky with no bites so far.. Just don't want to rely on luck anymore.. Thank you !
