Can I say how much I am loving my 2018 purchased ATC SCM40 passives!!
They are Tri amped Tri wired to a pair of 250 watt Audiolab 8300MBs and four 125 watt Audiolab 8000Ms, every body who has heard them have been suitably stunned by the amazing sound quality!

Thanks Brad for this very good explaination / information, well done this video. ATC makes hi-end drivers, thanks to Billy, Ben and Richard for sharing your passion to the world.

Crazy how this 6" midrange has a larger motor assembly than many bass drivers at twice the size.

Fantastic, a reference, I just hope that one day I can afford a pair of SCM300ASLT 🙏

2:28 - Good video and I love ATC’s midrange domes (and their monitors/speakers as I used to own a pair of ATC SCM 150S's) and they sounded beautiful no matter what kind of music you put into them - but there is no way the magnet on the dome of the mid range dome-transducer that he compared the ATC midrange domes to had a magnet size the same as their tweeter - as per his statement.
Additionally, neodymium magnets are far superior (in many ways) to Ferrite and/or Alinico magnets which which most of the ATC midrange and woofers have in them.
I still love ATC’s though and miss my pair of ATC SCM 150S's.
    Kind regards,

I feel it's worth noting, that Scanspeak/Peerless/whoever midrange is not a sealed driver, nor is it a proper dome! It's an inverted cone. The voice coil is much smaller than the ATC's (or any other true dome mid).

Thank you for this!!!!Can you please tell me the recommended back wall distance and listening distance for the SCM12 pro?

Those midranges are actually Volt VM752's. There is a 6 month backlog on retail orders. Roughly 700 USD shipped.

Wrong . Its a 100% ATC driver . ATC builds 2 versions of it . The SM75-150S and SM75-150 . Volt copied it later and now PMC uses the Volt drivers.

    • @davidfuller581
      @davidfuller581 2 місяці тому

Nope; the Volt is a totally different design that happens to look like the ATC. The ATC is underhung and uses edge wound flat wire, the Volt is overhung and uses round wire. The volt doesn't have the low end extension the ATC does.

No comparison, a unit with neodymium magnet is normally much smaller and also more expensive. The dual suspension is only necessary when your mid driver is taking very low frequencies. So a bulky mid driver doesn’t mean it’s better. Not to say that ATC mids are bad, no they are better than most.

What is the Xmax on this midrange driver ? Doesn't seem like much and you are expecting a 15 inch driver to crossover at 380Hz to a 3 inch dome midrange with a small Xmax ??? Sounds like a huge mismatch.

At frequencies below 400hz your ears aren't that sensitive to the directivity difference

Wouldn’t seem to have any effect on the fact that people and studios worldwide worship ATC’s.

IIRC the xmax is ±3mm or thereabouts. It's quite high for a dome.

The two wires on the outside of the mid dome look so out of place... What is the functional benefit of keeping them visible there, as opposed to hiding them on the inside?

Is this fitted to the scm19?
