Jessica get a zapper to hang up on your house for the mosquitoes. My daddy is an welder and believe me mama got a zapper machine to hang up right above porch and it zapped them bugs. In the summer time around by pur pool at night as daddy cooked on his grill sitting at the lounge chairs and table by the pool them mosquitoes csme out. Putting the spray off on you but mama was our hero getting a zapper then we could enjoy our days swimming by our pool.
Your home is very pretty. We lived in the country all my life. Best way to live and enjoy yourselves. God bless you and your family. Happy Father's day 💙

Your grandma seems to be settled in quite well. I love how she putters around with you. The porch looks inviting. I am a stickler for our front porch too. I grew up with a grandmother who had a saying for everything in life!! One that she quoted frequently was that you could tell the type of housekeeper a woman was by the cleanliness of her front door threshold and butter dish!! Go figure. You are capitalizing on your summer!
Until we visit again, keep on gardening!! ❤ Momma G

I agree! It was not the case the house is clean and tidy especially the more the kids move out. But the construction porch was not telling a full story.

BEAUTIMOUS!! Ours is a bright red with a house that is Navajo white (butter cream color), sage, and white.

Excellent video Jess, these small projects are great for the lull between planting and harvesting from your garden. G-mom seems to enjoy gardening, she picked some lovely flowers and plants. Her bedroom view will be beautiful 😊 those bratty chickens though, I hope clipping their wings will stop the ninja 🥷 skills...lol
The garden and flower beds look amazing. 😊 I remember your small orange bucket and inground potatoes, as well as the colorful cauliflower, you've come along way, baby!! Happy Father's day, Aaron. Nice BBQ!! Can't wait for your adventures on the boat this summer. Does the BBQ work on the Argo as well?

You’ll never catch a fish by waving a spatula at them! It’s a warning for what’s to come. LOL
Also Geraniums are a natural mosquito repellent. A couple planted in pots by the front door would help. I’d have to imagine they’ll not survive the winter, but Home Depot/ Lowe’s sell them.
Keep the great videos coming. Love them all.

I just got done painting my front door and porch doors, 2 more to go. I needed to cover up the streaky red a previous owner painted sloppily. I can't stand warm colors so it helps me feel like it's my home, not just a place I'm living in. For me when scraping the glass it helps to score the edge of the glass and to wait several days after painting 💗

    Mosquito problem:
Order “Lemon Oil of Eucalyptus” better than DEET as a repellent. Look for this ingredient in commercial insect repellents usually in products for babies ( I use them). Might find it it in local organic store used in homeopathic lotions.

Good afternoon, Jessica! I just found out that if you take milk and put half milk half water into a sprand bottle nozzle, you can spray your tomatoes, you know? The top of the leaves, the bottom of the leaves automatically and the bugs that like the. Tomatoes that like to eat them their mouths.Their mouth will wild.Shut from the milk and they'll fall off and might want to give it a try.I would go ahead and spray your tomato plants now to prevent it

Like number 816. That pretty yellow door may leak because your porch deck is almost level with the door. Its better to have your porch deck built below the door so you have to step up into the house, that way water wont come into the house when it rains or from melting snow on the porch.

Hi Jessica- Thank you for sharing great information for planting, some prepping, cooking, home body care products and some fun family moments. I do have a question that might be a little off topic but something to consider. Given all the crazy weather we've been having all over the country and power outages, have you and Aaron considered an outhouse, I know most toilets do not work without electricity so maybe a future project if you don't already have one. We just had a round of 8 tornadoes in May pass through our area, but the LORD is good. Thank you for sharing.

    • @modernhomesteadalaska
      @modernhomesteadalaska  9 днів тому +1

That’s a great question. In the event it got there, in summer we have the lake and can use lake water to flush, and in winter we have a back up of water to flush, if all that failed there is one right next to use we could use in that sort of emergency, but we won’t put one in for just Incase reasons

Hi Jessica and sweet family! Your front porch looks beautiful. I have always loved the yellow on the front door, so bright and inviting.
We had a pontoon boat that we mounted a grill on the front deck. I’ve even made gravy and biscuits because we would camp at dollar island all weekend. Nothing tastes as good as cooking outdoors. Glad to see Aaron enjoyed his Father’s Day.
I have that oil diffuser and it really puts out better than any other I have.
Hi grandma, staying warm is important since moving north it will take a while for your body to adjust.
Your flowers are beautiful and catnip can be used by humans too. Your grandmother has an eye for beautiful flowers. Great job feeding your plants and the shower ideal is brilliant.

Loving the overalls, that’s def your vibe, so cute on you! Ever thought about throwing a ton of mosquito repellent plant seeds around the perimeter of your driveway and just seeing what happens? Maybe a few plants on the porch or mixed in with the hanging baskets. I keep a water bottle with some oils it in with me outside, and spray on and around me when the bugs are bugging, but I don’t deal with swarms like you describe so don’t know how affective that would be. That catnip will grow stick like stems eventually (if it gets enough sun) and could break being by the hose. The bees absolutely love catnip flowers, as I’ve learned through my own voluntary catnip this year.. I’ve always had mine in mostly shade, but this year I said what the hell let’s put it out with my flowers, and it’s thriving, so many happy pollinators, it’s worth the effort.
