Although hysteria is certainly not my favorite era of them it is still undeniably a really good album. I know it’s very poppy but it is still unique and iconic for a reason. Gods of War off that album is amazing. RIP Steve Clark

Frank Noon, a local (to me) guy who played drums on this, not long before rick allen joined them. he was drummer in a great outfit , who i saw a few times. THE NEXT BAND . got to see them both on the same bill, Dec 23rd, 1978, Grantham Guildhall
I'm so glad someone has uploaded a full version of this EP and preserved it this is now a very rare piece of vinyl and in my ears ride into the sun is one of Leps best tunes ever if you have this EP cherish it it's a pure diamond
I like alot of those songs. They were great back then. The guitars were outstanding. Steve Clark and Pete Willis were awesome . Great band from the start.
Idk, to me they sounded like they were still looking for their sound....These songs to me sounded like they were just trying to replicate what was out there at the time, and they wouldn't have lasted long sounding like this. The songs and albums from the 80s to me are what def leppard was meant to be. Unlike any other band and sound at the time and took them over the top successfully.
Had they kept with this hard, raw sound, the 80's glam bands would have swallowed them up. There was no room for it, meaning they would have likely gone metal. They might have made a good go of it, but Hysteria made it so they had a lifetime fanbase, which has now procreated, giving them a new generation of fans.

Phil ruins the band for me with his overzealous bendy shit. That stuff was kept to a minimum when he was playing with Steve, but ever since he passed, Phil has shifted the band over to his sound. Any time he does a solo on one of Pete's songs, it sounds god awful. Less is more, Phil.
A lot of people forget that Pete Willis helped write a lot of their songs up to Hysteria. That's when their sound started to change when they added Phil Collin.

nah it's Hard Rock, even though it's definitely a part of 'NWOBHM era' because it's formative history Lots of people said that Van Halen were 'heavy metal' back then, too - but nobody would claim that now. All thanks to Metallica and the influence of The Melvins on key Seattle bands (AliceInChains, Soundgarden), the wide acceptance of down-tuning.
Who knows where Def Leppard would be today if they had kept on this track. They likely would have faded into obscurity, as the 80's weren't friendly to this raw sound. Pop rock was the only place for them to go, but had they only arrived ten years earlier, they might have been up there with Zepplin and other classic bands. Still, I'd rather listen to this than anything they put out post Slang.

Pyromania introduced me to them when it first came out and I was 14. I absolutely loved it. Then I heard n Through The Night and was blown away. High And Dry has some awesome tunes but I love OTTN best as I love every song on it.
YES, they did! Turned out the "original" wasn't as serious as the others. They got rid of him and Rick Allen joined. Also, Sav didn't always play bass. He wasn't as good as a player as Pete Willis. So, he learned to play bass
Joe asked me to play on the EP as their original drummer’s girlfriend wanted him to go on holiday with her at the time of the recording. After Joe asked me to join but I said no!!!!🥲😱I did sit on Rick Allen’s audition and said ‘yeah that’s the one!
Most obviously Pete Willis was one of the bigger contributors to the music and lyrics of the first 2 albums. It would really be a shame if he wasn’t at the Barclays center on 3/29/19 for leopards induction into the Rock n Roll hall of fame!

Def Leppard is considered to be part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal..... Along with bands like maiden, priest, Saxon, Motorhead.....etc. These bands took hard rock and metal from bands like Sabbath and deep people, and mixed it with more grittier punk lyrically, and more intricate music technically. Advances in technology at the time, lead to the slicker, processed sound of some of the bands.....but that was true of all music in the late 70, earlier 80s.
Initially they were part of NWOBHM (a continuation of UFO, Judas, Motorhead) and then they mixed it with glam rock (Sweet, T-Rex, etc), so literally they shaped the glam metal sound, then Quiet Riot, Motley and all those LA bands came up...
Maybe this is it or maybe not, but I remember a couple two three years ago I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and I said "Def Leppard sucks" (I've had this opinion for many a'year). Then this person played something on their phone and asked if I knew who it was and I was baffled, but to me it sounded like old school Crue with some punk and I thought it sounded good and then the guy said this is DL and I was in disbelief! He went on to say that they are actually pretty good, but the sound that everyone else and I'm familiar with and what I don't like like is just the producer or whoever they had contract with I guess made them sound the way they eventually did bc that's where the money and hits were at the time. I still think the guys have lots of talent, but I just don't like the songs, music, or Axl Rose lol 🤷🏿♂️
