Yeah, he probably wouldn't want to admit it publicly but I know people like that. When faced with those circumstances, depending on your disposition you go to one of the 2 extremes, avoidant of any sort of intimacy like Sam or a sex/love addict or maybe alternate between those at different points of your life. It could simply be that Sam feels he has a higher calling in this world and family would get in the way of that and be damaged by that. But he's probably fearful of that type of intimacy, despite him understanding logically and proclaiming that it's a good thing to get married and have children. Maybe he's just really hard to live with for most women. Maybe he just feels unlovable. Who knows, but hopefully he freezes some of his sperm before it gets too aww tissed ick and finds a nice woman to settle down with once he's on the tail end of his career and the stuff he wants to accomplish. I think Sam has probably experienced a lot of shit in his past that he regrets and still hurts for, and he sees that regret as weakness. This conversation really points it out. I can only assume his dad sent him something awful in return, given the reaction from Chris and the descriptions. Similar boat as me, but my stoic and abusive father ended up shooting himself when he tried to drunkenly beat my brother at dinner one night and mom finally had enough of his bullshit, and left him. Shot himself right behind the fire station by our home. For years, I hated him for it. Tore the family apart, tore *me* apart because I always wanted to just have a good relationship with him, but he's dead. Ultimately, I realized the grudge I had towards him was making me just as pessimistic towards sensitivity as Sam is here. I had to forgive him for what he did, and then forgive myself for everything I could have done better. Been a lot happier since then, and have found a bit of inner peace. Acknowledging your emotions is the key to growing past your traumas, and a man needs to be strong emotionally, not just physically. Tl;dr MMMM DADDY ISSUES MUCH??
@quagmoe7879 I don't see how this is being parasitic when I'm disagreeing with what Sam is saying about being sensitive, or at least attributing sensitivity to a predatory and toxic type of man. Love his content and his brand of humor, but I don't really agree with a ton of his philosophy. He's a cool guy but I think he has some unresolved turmoil, and it reminds me of what I went through dealing with my family troubles.
Yeah I picked up on a few voice cracks thrown in there, I swear. Stoicism is all good and well but you're taking it too far if you are attempting to repress all of your vulnerable emotions at all times. I think Sam needs a hug from his father, like I'm not kidding. We're all human and humans aren't robots. I hope they can reconnect. Family is much more important than money.

Accept it, Sam, being emotional it's not always wrong, you are a human being and pretending men shouldn't express negative emotions is a reason why men in our generation are so depressed and without direction.
The lesson I would take from this sort of advice is "don't let yourself get driven mindlessly by your own emotions." Note that there's a difference between showing emotions and being an emotional person. There's a difference between a man who expresses his feelings like an adult and a man who crumbles like a wet napkin whenever he's feeling sadness or anxiety. When we're teenagers, we might have the freedom to explore those emotions carelessly, as long as we don't strive away from morals, always with the goal of understanding them and learning how to control them. But when you're in the process of becoming an adult, you'll understand that as a man you will be in charge of a lot of responsibilities, and there will be times where you'll have to take care of those who are younger, less experienced, or weaker than you in your community. In those moments is where you can't let your emotions take the best of you.
@@CJ-lr4uqI think the issue is when men think it’s ok to cry in public because “brah only a strong man would be able to show his emotions in public, and because I’m stronger than you, I can cry in public and I don’t care” This isn’t strong behavior, you just look like a fuckin bitch lmao. @@Beavisofficial I guess it’s a balancing act of knowing when to be stoic and knowing when you should share your feelings. Yeah I kinda fw what he said about anxiety to idubbz too it was just so quick and simple and yet somehow so meaningful he goes "once u start having anxiety.. YOU'RE DEAD"
See what you're saying, but on the other hand it seems like a waste to go through life actively trying not to enjoy things just because you think some woman is testing you (lol) and she'll get the ick if you're openly happy... Or if you're afraid someone is going to try to knock you down out of spite. Being a real man consists of doing what needs to be done, and otherwise doing what you enjoy without caring what anyone else says or thinks. Maybe that sounds cliche, but I feel like it's the best course to take.
i think what he is saying is more akin to taking good things for granted/assuming this good thing that happened to you is the new default. let the good times roll, but don't expect all times to be good. i think that's what he's getting at, or at least something close to that.
I took it Sam was talking less about being emotional in a happy way but more like emotional in the flipping out over nothing and having a frequent cry kinda way.
>actively trying not to enjoy things Where the fuck did you get THAT from, lol The shit test he was talking about is when women insult you, disrespect or fuck your brains in any other way. They do it, consciously or not, to gauge your manhood. Many men don't understand what's going on and instead of acting - react and fail.
Sam has clearly been through a lot of shit and probably has a few things broken emotionally, a bad relationship with a father can do that to anyone. Doesn’t mean he’s wrong when it comes to not letting your emotions take you for a ride in making executive decisions. A sour relationship with some family doesn’t justify letting your limbic system take over to lash out at the rest of the world in some passive or aggressive manner.
People are not irritated about that tho, they are cringing on how he sees himself as an ideal of a stoic strong-men when he actually is doing the exact things he tends to criticize in a over the top spiteful manner. His blindness to himself and how he comes off to other people, mixed with the apparent arrogance of his statements inevitably puts people agaisnt him.
I think the only takeaway from this whole thing is to NEVER EVER air out your personal family business out in public. You only get mocked. Just look at the replies, everyone ridiculing him for one thing or the other. No resolution is reached, just gossip and speculation. No one knows what went down between the two. It takes an extreme event to strain out a father son relationship this much, and sometimes cutting total contact is completely valid and the only solution. No point continuing a relationship that's come to it's end.
Who gives a fuck about a bunch of losers in comments, though? How are they gonna look if you put them, next to Sam? I bet he opened comments and had a laugh at all the wimps reacting to phrase "shouldn't be sensitive" while completely missing the point that he spelled out in the video.

Yeah I can't imagine being a millionaire and not paying back my own father like I said I would. My dad lent me $300 for a cheap motel room for a while when I was homeless and I'm unemployed and living in a boarding house but I'm still making an effort to pay it back bit by bit as I can't afford paying it back all at once, and I still feel bad I can't just take care of it in one payment.

There's nothing wrong with being sensitive. Sam himself (despite what he may say) is sensitive. And actually with the general state of men's mental health these days (suicide rate etc.) this is the sort of thing men don't need to hear. Telling men they can't be emotional and should bottle it up is contributing to the problem. There's also nothing wrong with practicing stoicism or trying to, but one shouldn't hate themselves or count it as a failure for feeling emotional or even letting it get the better of them from time to time. Still though don't ever be emotional in front of women.
i agree.. it feels the whole conversation around men's mental health is not gonna improve anytime soon. we're stuck in ancient ideals of masculinity that although noble don't always translate to modern day life. people in the west are not experiencing the same hardships our ancestors did so there shouldn't be so much pressure.
I've learned that the hard way. Started this college year full of resolve, ideas on how to make money and build a successful future for myself, got in shape, tried to compete with my much more successful/fit friends, when I soon realised that I'm unable to keep up with everything that I planned for myself, I became paranoid, my insomnia progressed to a severe state and eventually suffered total mental breakdown. Got diagnosed with suicidal depression (or something among those lines) and can't get my life back on track without feeling completely worthless and behind everyone I know
having emotions and wallowing in pity are two entirely different things. If what you get from his statement is "allow yourself to experience no emotion whatsoever" youre pretty dull. Its all about not allowing your feeling to influence how you operate in life.
@@topbringusdingle He mentions Stoicism a lot. And I do love Marcus Aurelius' Meditations (the only stoic book I own) because it was written for himself and never published, but the other stoicists cross a line. Did you people think Sam was a legitimate Sociopath or something? Everyone has feelings, dude. The second reply already said it, but there really is a difference.
I don’t think being sensitive is wrong; being fragile is wrong. Just don’t live in your emotions. If a family member, dear friend, or pet dies it’s normal to be upset. A tough man lets it out and moves on, rather than prolonging issues and manifesting them elsewhere. Not caring at all is reserved only for true sociopaths. People that “aren’t sensitive” typically just manifest the sadness as other issues, which is weak. I think dealing with emotions privately and learning from it is key. What friends and family are for is talking about stresses/worries/irritants to get perspective and calm the nerves. But deal with emotions in private unless you need support through loss or a very difficult time. Bottling things up is just as bad as being a sensitive pussy, it’s just less annoying.

he thinks 'being emotional' is gay because he doesn't understand his emotions, and thus ridicules those who are able to express them which in itself is an emotional, reactionary thing to do. the fact that his solution to his dad sending him a nasty email was to do rounds on the heavy bag says a lot tbh.

As a sensitive man, I realize the stigma that showing emotions and crying there are against men who do that, but hard as I may try, it's almost impossible to get rid of it. Eventually I found it as a source of strength because at least when alone I can face my emotions, let them run through me and go on my day, instead of trying to pretend it doesn't affect me emotionally.

Where the fuck did you get THAT from, lol
The shit test he was talking about is when women insult you, disrespect or fuck your brains in any other way.

No one knows what went down between the two. It takes an extreme event to strain out a father son relationship this much, and sometimes cutting total contact is completely valid and the only solution. No point continuing a relationship that's come to it's end.

its never been a secret that Sam isny someone to be looked up to, he gives great advice on drive and being successful but as far as virtues and morality idk why you'd go to Sam Hyde for that
There's nothing wrong with being sensitive.

The collective weight of everyone on screen must exceed 1000lbs

If your abusive dad turned into a redditor... That's when he's gone off the deep end, I'm afraid. Kinda happened with my dad lol
Imagine whats going on in airsofts head while sams saying all this
Haha...just nodding his head in agreement
Guy was literally freaking out screaming and crying almost every fishtank episode 😂😂😂
probably just a bunch of miracle whip
The cymbals monkey like in Homer's head
The "never forgive your parents" molyneux stuff is cancer. A man is the genetic image of his father, so if you have contempt for your father, you have contempt for yourself.
Is that what Stefan says?
@@Hectorogents Not explicitly, but in practice yes. His shtick is reducto ad childhood trauma. Any problem you have, blame your parents. If you confront them and they don't agree, cut them off.
He advises you to ignore innate kinship bonds and treat your parents like any random stranger you make voluntary contracts with. Really twisted stuff. I got sucked into it at one point.
@@evanpax8585Yeah I was a part of it at one point, too. Didn't really think he said to never forgive them. In some cases you have to DEFOO (Is that how it's spelt?) but I really related to all his allegories about child abuse- I felt stuck in life and it seemed like the right thing.
There was of course some truth to it. It's really messed up stuff though, looking back. Does breaking off potentially salvageable bonds really help anyone? I know someone who defooed in their own home, hikkomori style. How the fuck does that happen?
Yep I lived like that for 30yrs with my father just hateful it just eats you alive.
@@evanpax8585 Would you remain friends with someone who abused a child? Probably not. Abuse is circumstantial, sometimes childhood trauma is not actually trauma, you were just an upset little brat, so cutting off contact over that would be silly. Legit trauma and abuse would warrant cessation of contact though.
He is spiralling again. He finds sucess, becomes angry and toxic, falls in to irrelevance, and the cycle repeate.

lmao at Sam flaming his dad and then goes "yeah I owe him 6000 dollars"... is it just me or does Sam sound like he's on the verge of tears for half this video? No hate to him, I love the guy but just thought this was a bit weird
he was sick during this stream that's why he sounds like that
He was apparently withdrawing off of antidepressants and thats why he self deleted.
SSRIs are poison, horrible side effects, horrible withdrawal effects, all for zero benefit and the unnatural altering of one's brain chemistry
tension is high in the mde crib
Felt bad at the start cus I consider myself a sensitive guy but then I realised that the type of dude he’s on about is literally the petty little weasel that cannot dismiss or master their emotions as if they’re a woman or a child
I'm so masculine that I base my behavior on what other man have wrote in a book so they could become rich and famous
this used to be skinny art school guy who was probably outcasted for his humor and interests clearly needs therapy. i remember this semi old clip of him saying when men wanna have useless sex they wanna prove something to their dad, but then he makes jokes and tell stories of ex girlfriends where he’s only with them for their looks? he can also be pretty self loathing sometimes like when he rips on people with characteristics he himself has. almost like he’s shaming himself in front of in audience through someone else or another thing so he himself can disassociate from that and correct it. he acts as if men being vulnerable are weak but in the next sentence he starts talking about his relationship with his dad? idk whole thing’s weird.
I think that's kinda the point, if he had just gone with the flow he'd be an even more mutant form of one of these guys
Sam: "im not sensitive, and sensitive guys are gross"
Also Sam: lemme dedicate a quarter of my stream telling my fans how big a jerk my dad is
Airsoft Fatty just chilling in the background like a kings most trusted advisor
As a sensitive man, I realize the stigma that showing emotions and crying there are against men who do that, but hard as I may try, it's almost impossible to get rid of it. Eventually I found it as a source of strength because at least when alone I can face my emotions, let them run through me and go on my day, instead of trying to pretend it doesn't affect me emotionally. Luckily I found a woman who not only understands the sensitivity, but also appreciates it. With that said, I can also come off as confident, assertive and cordial most of the time, so that helps.
you’re welcome. also the reason i asked about DFW is because the back jacket of infinite jest can be seen is in the million dollar extreme video “my house is a mess just like davinci”
"YOU CAN ACT LIKE A MAN!" - vito corleone
Nietzsche makes the point re Socrates that his greatest sin was his dying words, which implied that life was a sickness and death the cure. However relatable, the platitude is not a remedy, it is a poison.
I worked with a guy like Kitty-cat man. Dude never shut the hell up and was overly friendly to the women. When we were all in trouble, he was the first to try and throw people under the bus.
i love airsoftfatty sitting in the back not comprehending anything they are saying.
Bobby Hill coming in with the hilarious quips
Lol Sams company be twitching while hes talking about sneaky beta males 😅
Sounds like sam doesnt know what to do with sensitive feelings. And relates anything with emotions and males to his dad. Classic therapy session.
Men can be sensitive. They just need to know when not to be.
The comparison of Tony Soprano to Sam is so fucking accurate lmao
Airsoft sounds like Marge from Simpsons lol. He should try voice acting.
Yeah ive always felt that Sam's preoccupation with the father figure and masculinity and the lack of a dad in those early videos had some sort of connection
Sam “Don’t look through my Camera Roll” Hyde
Just pay daddy Hyde his $6400, and buy him a nice new red Mercedes (like the one you wrecked) with all that hot paypig money.
So funny how he wants to act like he wasn’t an entitled frag to his parents when he didn’t have anything aside from “teens” and a tiny niche following.
Lol sam bringing up his unresolved daddy issues again? Even funnier now when hes like 40 than when he was 28. (Not an emotional dude btw)
If Sam owes his father money he should pay it back. Just saying
DFW progressed the collective human consciousness in such a way that his suffering was him carrying his cross.
Sam is just showcasing he has horrible relationships with his parents. He's wrong on this one in so many ways.
He’s not really wrong about beta type males or shit tests.
Parents=good
Such a nuanced take, you're genius.
@@BlackVirtueAre you a mongoloid? I didn't say anything about his parents being good or bad. Must have hit a nerve because you have mommy and/or daddy issues kid. Mde is okay for comedy, but I don't get why so many of you ne'er-do-wells think getting advice from these guys is sensible. They're in their late 30s and JUST now barely getting their acts together, financially.
You should always try and maintain a good relationship with your father even if he has shortcomings. Living with regret is one of the worst pains in life. Make peace.
What if you dont regret not having a relationship with your father?
yeah, this is just a personal view of mine, but i think if you let hatred and grudges live in your heart you're gonna grow to be ugly and miserable. I try my best to forgive others that have wronged me which is difficult sometimes but its for the best
@@hozz you will if the beef is over something minor- if it is you squash it, tell your father you love them and thank then for what they've done. If it's something major- and you know if it is or isn't, move on- forgive them though.
In this case it's the dad holding a grudge lmao
@@hozzIve never seen a well balanced person who didnt get a long with there dad, ever. They resent them for forever like a child even if they were there for them sometimes and its brutal.
Sam turning into a lolcow
Becoming emotionally hardened is not good advice. Face your emotional problems head on. Resolve your past wounds. Just don’t dump on people or be emotional at inappropriate times
Goddamn 8:11 - 8:40 was fucking rough to hear. Pretty nasty and insensitive coming from Sam on David’s suicide. Sam’s whole point here is stupid and immature, he must be going through it rn. That’s some dark shit. Don’t think I’ll be tuning in anymore. BYE BYE SAMMY
The book in the thumbnail behind Sam is a really good book. It's Caral Jung's teachings summarised by his students. Sam recommended reading it in one of his Spotify podcasts and I really recommend it too. It goes over phycology for men and how to be the best version of yourself, 10/10 book. It's called King, Warrior, Magician, Lover
It’s a truly amazing and beautiful book. It’s the only book that totally reprogrammed my mind and my order of thinking right after the Bible. I feel like Robert L. Moore is a prerequisite to understanding any type of Stoic philosophy.
KWML is a top 10 book, every man and boy needs to read it.
Also, Way of the Superior Man was already talked about on this show but it's a great book as well. It's got some good shit in it once you get past all of the hippy language.
No More Mr Nice Guy and When I Say No I Feel Guilty are also excellent resource on not being a bitch and asserting yourself. Changed my life for the better in every possible way.
I cant believe people take sam seriously. Not that they like him. I like him. I like sam. Hes charming. You can tell hes a guy whos just tamping a lot of shit down at all times. But Sam to me proves no one is really a stoic, even when they try really hard. Hes clearly an emotional guy who doesnt like to show it. I think thats why people like him
People are only stoic because they have to be. Nobody really chooses stoicism, and they'll realise in the end.
The issue with sensitive men is that theyre obcessed with themselves. How everyone views them, how everything can serve them, how it makes them feel, etc. then roll all that into a thin burrito shell they call conciousness of others. The interest in others they fein as sensitivity is just putting feelers out for what they can extract for themselves.
Interesting point. I think it's even stronger; most probably have BPD and it's now masquerading as 'sensitivity'.
Thank you reddit
@@PeachBoi_Real hecking friendo, sorry, but pull up a chair or pop a squat and I'll tell ya why you're wrong if your brain can handle it... (Insert reddit 5 paragraph essay about absolutely nothing)
@@Mr_Sh1tcoin covert narcissism
i don't think every sensitive guy is like that, at least they don't all have the same self serving motivation. you're describing what sounds like a vulnerable narcissist.
Only a sensitive dude would say “do you want to reconnect?”.
Kind of telling that as Sam talks about not being emotional about his fathers cold message he's almost crying. Bruh, its fine to cry lol. Just dont be a victim. Thats it.
My most recent relationship ended after in a bout of vulnerability I revealed my pain to my girlfriend. Before that she’d shit test me all the time and I was aloof as hell. I thought that in revealing my emotions I’d finally make her happy. She was happier when I was a callous asshole. Not that I suggest trying to be callous to people, but Sam is definitely right. It’s about accepting your emotions within and only sharing if it’s relevant or necessary.
Edit: also the beta male shit is super duper true, all the betas in my friend circle turned out to the most conniving snakes
Sam should reconsider. David Foster Wallace was one of the most profoundly brilliant people in recent times for sure. Also the antithesis of just about everything Sam is against, and they have a lot in common really.
