After years of using a different brand chainsaw exclusively, I was taken aback at how different the Husqvarna was. One of the better tutorials I've seen; concise, thorough, and linear. Thank you.
This is a great tutorial on how to change the chain. One thing I did incorrectly that was not mentioned, is set the chain clutch to open before pulling the side cover off. Be sure the clutch is open and the chain moves freely, otherwise, that side cover is a pain to remove. If it requires any real effort to pull it off, then the clutch is closed and you need to push the lever forward to release the clutch. I also appreciate the info on lubing the bar sprocket, I would have easily overlooked this. Great job!
I made this error too and now I'm not able to put it back together :/ edit: Just when I wrote this I got it back together. Just needed to use some force to get "clutch lock" open again :)
Nathan Hladky Thank You, I made the fatal error of not releasing the clutch and had to take it in to put my cover back on! Good Video but he should re-make adding in the clutch.
The video was a good reminder since I was out of country for a few years and my chainsaw was in storage for all of the time away. Both mine needed a good cleaning and that was a chore as well.
Very helpful video! I realized after seeing how easily you put on the chain that there might be something wrong with my setup (HAVE A 445 HUSQUARNA). I saw that my bar was bent so I done replaced it and what not and was on my merry dang way. Thanks again for the awesome video.
For those that have the cover off without releasing the chain brake as this vid so famously missed, here's a simple fix: Remove the brake lever (2 allen screws). Then use the removed lever to release (pull back) the brake band. Then Reassemble. Your welcome!
Thanks for help and for watching. That's why I say this is how "I fixed" whatever it is...It might not be how you wanna fix it😂, but I'm pretty close the majority of the time.
Thanks for the video. I had to do my first chain replacement, and it was nice to see it happen before I tried it. Yours sure fell into place a lot easier than mind did, but with a little persuasion, I got the job done. How did people learn how to do this stuff before youtube? Maybe back then they printed manuals using a font larger than 0.05 points, and it wasn't so much work sifting through the endless warnings and cautions to get to the actual instructions.
U forgot the most important step: make sure the chain brake is dis-engaged before you remove the clutch/brake cover. Otherwise, it's off to the shop for fixing (for many). Dis-engage the chain brake, if engaged, by pulling it back towards the grip handle. Then remove the cover nut.
Exactly. I made this mistake the first time. A helpful hint though, if you find yourself in the same situation, just put the cover back in place and press hard on the top right corner (where the chain-brake switch is located. I was able to press it back in far enough to disengage the brake and save myself some serious headaches.
Dr. Shankopotamus, thanks for this video! This helped me as I was trying to change and clean my chain this morning. This might seem like a silly question since I use my husqvarna 450 quite a bit, but what is the best oil/gas mixture do you use?
I'm a chainsaw rookie, so was not aware of that last step of putting in grease at that small hole at the end of the bar (and on both sides of the bar). I just looked at that on my Husqvarna and the hole is very small. Doesn't look like it could hold much grease. What exactly is that grease lubricating?
What is the Little triangle plastic piece that just lays inside the clutch cover? Also while cleaning inside the clutch cover( drum side) a small screw fell out, from where I don't know
Yeah, next week i will get mine, i am hoping it does good, i recently had a 353. usually i cut every day, but not all day long, just one cord in the morning, then another in the evening time.
It's been a great saw for me. I had my father-in-law's Craftsman before this and it lasted maybe 2-3 weeks. I can run tis thing all day long w/o problems.
have you had trouble with the bar getting enough oil? mine (also a 450) is TERRIBLE. the bar turned blue/black from lack of oil. it goes through the usual 1/2 tank of oil per tank of fuel. had probably 35 tanks of fuel through it. what do I do? I know the oilers are not adjustable. I like the video
Never had the oil problem with mine. Are you lubing the holes for the gears on the end of the bar? If not you could be creating more resistance and more heat causing the bluing. Also, if you chain is too tight you can get the same heat/bluing problem? Thanks for the support.
So I have the 435 model I bought a new chain a 16" and.... It doesn't fit!! Why its a 16" chain got it from Lowe's n it is for the 435 model but the chain is to big WHY??? now I can't change the chain idfk
Check the bar length. The specs for the bar are stamped on the side. On the Husqvarna bar its near the slit on the end of the bar attached to the motor.
God willing Doc you'll see this comment today I am at my wits end trying and failing after 8 hours now to get chain and bar onto my 450 which is this || close to being thrown in pond in disgust. Sooooo frustrated. When j get chain and bar on the chain **will not** rotate the like at all even with proper slack. There is a little white grommet that fell out and I don't know which orientation or aide of bar it goes on. The bar is 100% straight but when installed the back of back "channels" for chain grippers are nowhere close to in love with the chain drive gears s chain will not feed into bar and this chain will not rotate. It's the ^
I'm having trouble putting cover on properly.its f***in passing me off yer vid don't say s**t bout back pin on cover or band that goes around drive let alone chain brake
+GuerillaGary I bought a 440. It's nice; light. But changing the chain? Good grief what a pain! Stihl is a much easier....but I'm a novice on the Huskie. Maybe I'll get better? If not I'm giving it away!!!
+David Buzulak have you gave that saw away and if you r thinking about im interested and if you need some help check out the video i just uploaded but if you are selling you chainsaw im interested

How do you make a tutorial without mentioning this most important action item?
The video was a good reminder since I was out of country for a few years and my chainsaw was in storage for all of the time away. Both mine needed a good cleaning and that was a chore as well.
Thank you so much for this video. I was pulling my hair out.

EXACTLY....THAT IS ALL I NEEDED TO KNOW
@@MrYELDAH I found out the hard way luckily the mower /chainsaw shop had a tool that can release the brake!!!

Great video thank you
😊lk
First thing is to release the chain lock before attempting to remove cover
If you don’t release the chain lock, then you have a problem!
@@ronniesilvio1385 and how do you fix it
Exactly! Not a very good instructional video with skipping that step!
How do you remover the chain lock
Dang that’s a hell of a lot easier than I thought it would be
Yep
Thank you for posting this helpful video.
Great tutorial bro. Thanks, its been a big help. Peace.
Dr. Shankopotamus, thanks for this video! This helped me as I was trying to change and clean my chain this morning. This might seem like a silly question since I use my husqvarna 450 quite a bit, but what is the best oil/gas mixture do you use?
Best I use is 50:1 premium non ethanol gas and Husqvarna synthetic 2 stroke mix.
I usually use the Husqvarna oil. It's 50:1 mixture. Always use Ethanol free gas... If you can get it. 2.5 fl oz of 2-stroke oil to 1 gal gas.
Thank you friend, very helpful
Great work!🎉
Thank you!
Thank you! this was useful

Why does the chain have to be snug tight?
Excellent, thanks much.
You’re very welcome...glad I could help. Have a blessed YHWH day.
Is this a good saw?
I'm planning to get this!
I just got one a couple days ago and I've cut a lot of logs with it already and it does fine for me.
Yeah, next week i will get mine, i am hoping it does good, i recently had a 353.

Brilliant
Hi, I just bought this chainsaw and am very happy with it. Where can I buy that case?
How to replace sprocket
I wonder if that clutch cover would work on my jonsered 2250

The actual work starts at 4:00.
Yeah...but the fun commentary starts at 00:01?
well what size is it?!
I was watching until I saw Crocs.

Did it take a bath?
Mine is hard to restart when it run out of fuel
Usually just takes more pushes on the primer bulb to make sure your line is clear of air....
I can't even get that cover off
That metal ring in the cover was stuck tight onto the clutch
+Brendon Welsh chain break is stuck on
I'm having the same problem. The recoil seems to be stuck to the cover plate. Any ideas?
Yeah, we got it dude..
. The case is dirty. You use your chainsaw. High five. You want a cookie?
Advise.. no need for 5 minutes of bs before you get around to changing the chain
Why not...it's only meant for entertainment...and it is my video...and then there is that little arrow button at the bottom of the screen.
Advice, not advise. Geez. If you don't like the video, move along.
Gloves? What a wuss

That saw is a pain in the ass piece of shit
It's actually worked very well for me...maybe I just haven't dropped it enough...My old Craftsman???Now there's a really useless saw!
Judging by your self-image, you are probably not the most capable to judge power tools.
Now I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
