5:18 I lived in Yokosuka,Japan for 4 years and that's when I discovered the importance of removing shoes before entering someones home. It's all about not bringing contaminated substance into your home,especially when you sit,sleep and entertainment of guest on the floor {tatami floor}.I was puzzled when I went to a 7-Eleven and they place a small basket before me. They don't accept monies hand to hand, just place it in the basket and your change is returned the same way. Miss that country. Great meal by the way. 😎✌

As it should get you slapped! You're going to gas stations, stores, bathrooms, all with those shoes and you wear them all around the house!? Some people even lay in bed with them. I got shoes to go out, shoes to work, sandals for outside the house, and sandals for in the house. I do go bare feet on carpet. I don't like socks indoors either, but just cause I don't clean the floors often enough for that. LOL

My parents have always taught us to take our shoes off before entering anyone’s home. I don’t think it’s a culture thing it’s respect. I grew up in the south and you have need to have manners honestly wish more people did.
It is definitely a culture thing. Whenever I went to any of my Caucasian friend’s houses they wore shoes in the house and told me I don’t have to take them off when I was going to.

I find, it's more of a how people think. Plenty of my friends (I am caucasian by the way) let me wear shoes in there home and didn't have anywhere for me to take my shoes off, but at my house or my grandfather's house I take my shoes off before entering as we have a mat you put your shoes on.

i have indoor shoes. i live in a basment tho so its recommed that you have to wear shoes even if there out door shoes because the basement floor is cold. you know basements are always damp even if you have any kind of flooring. upstairs tho no one can.t wear shoes. when my friends come by they take there shoes off upstairs and carry there shoes then when they get to the basement they have to put them on.

I never wear outside shoes in the house. I wear slippers. I am Asian and that’s how our mother taught us to respect our space and make sure it keeps clean.
