The skin on my face is more sensitive than the skin on the rest of my body so if a moisturiser irritates me, I can usually repurpose it as a hand or body cream!
I think we should start with our favorites! It would be too sad to use something we don’t like, while our favorite goes bad! And also let’s be creative and use products in different ways! (Like if there’s a conditionner I don’t like I’ll use it as shaving cream, if there’s a lip balm I don’t like I use it as cuticle oil, meh face products on body etc) also organize spa days with friends, or makeup try ons! (In a sanitary way)
One of my favorite lipsticks used to be a decluttered shade from a friend! If you can do it in a way that feels safe and hygienic to you, passing products along can be really nice.
I decided to use some of my face cleansers that didn’t work for me to clean the inside of my toilet or the floor under my shower. If it’s too harsh on my face, might as well clean my bathroom :)
Love this. Just reminds me how a simple thing can get compounded. You buy the next cool makeup item (or anything else) and end up not using the stuff you have, but do that enough times and now your stuff is overflowing - then you start buying containers because you think you have an ‘organization problem’ instead of a ‘junk’ problem.
yes!! This is so true. You can feel like it's just an odd thing here and there. I found 10 things for this video that need using up and take up space, and there's other stuff in other categories too. It can definitely add up
I live for this kind of project pan stuff! I always have one rolling , I keep a list on a journal keeping track about what I buy monthly and what I consume 😂 i can’t speak with no one about it ‘cause my friends are not really into makeup like me. So far this year I’ve finished 20 makeup products ( and 9 nail polishes ) and I’m so so so proud about it 😂😂😂 I think I can finish 3/4 more until the end of the year .
I don’t wear a lot of makeup but I appreciate this idea still! I’m moving out of my house and across the country and we have a lot of random food items that need to be used up before we leave. This really makes me want to use up the stuff we have and reduce our waste before we leave.
We moved a few states away and during packing I looked over my makeup and tossed most of it. I couldn't remember when I used it last. Most of my products had dust on it. Unless you have a ton of money to do a pantry restock, don't get rid of all your foods. Trust me, I went through this one. Was hard before that first paycheck with moving bonus came in.
Same. My makeup collection is very minimal, but I love the concept here, especially with food. Another UA-camr I follow does pantry clean-out videos where she uses up odds and ends in her fridge, freezer and cupboards, sometimes inventing new recipes as she goes. It's fun content.
@@Hecatate I’m totally with you there. unfortunately we’re moving from Virginia to Washington and driving with our stuff and 2 dogs so space is a very limited commodity. Otherwise I’d be bringing the food! When we moved from New Hampshire, I brought it all with us.

I kind of do this monthly with our food. It bothers me so much to waste food of any kind. I plan the menu and I do the cooking and my husband and my daughter know that end of the month menus are “clear the pantry” meals. I go over all the goods in the pantry and fridge to check expiration dates and do creative meal planning based on what needs to be eaten. Usually veggies like cauliflower (which my daughter isn’t the most fond of) that are last to be eaten, make it on the menu in creative ways. They never complain and they have actually requested the cauliflower nachos when it’s not pantry clear out lol. This helps to always be aware what you’re buying/eating and what gets tossed. And it gets your creative cooking juices flowing lol. I love this channel so much!❤❤❤
i keep a pretty minimal stash of things in general but i'm using this video as a reminder to go thru my things more thoroughly, such as take everything out of my bathroom drawer or make up organizers to really see if i'm using everything. Even cleaning my products and reorganizing them makes me see them in a new light and want to use them more. So thanks for the inspo!
4:29 this part really spoke to me, lately I’ve been working my way through a lot of stuff that I tend to over-purchase (like skincare and tea) but my lip products tend to be too much for me to keep track of. I’ve been systematically trying to wear a different one everyday just to figure out for myself which are my favorites, what they look/feel like, and if any have gone off. Reminding myself what I have feels like an important step in preventing myself from buying more.
I am doing a very similar thing this year. I've accumulated a lot of lip products over the years. I put all my lip items in one place, and every time I leave the house, I choose one to apply and then put in my purse to take with me. I think this way I will get a better idea of what I actually enjoy wearing and what looks good on me and with my outfits. If I notice that I just don't like something, I throw it away without guilt. It is probably ridden with bacteria anyway, haha!
@ that’s a really good point! Doing this kind of roll call of your lip stuff not only reminds you of what you have but forces you to actually wear the things you might only think you like. I figure if I come across something I hate wearing that’s as good a reason to get rid of it as being expired.
Yay for Project Pan! I've already finished my "24 in '24" project, and now I'm doing a "12 Pans of Christmas" one, since I've got lots of stuff nearing its end and figured I might as well get 12 more empties in before the year is up. Plus, it'll help me get a head start on next year's panning. I'm feeling good about my usage rate this year.
For the vitamin C noisturizer, if you wanna finish it up, use it as a body moisturizer in a couple layers after a shower! There's no rule you have to use face creams only on your face!!! (Unless they have ingeedients that skin below the face cant handle which usually isnt the case.)
Yeah, I bought a Paula’s Choice vitamin c serum and it expired in 3 months. Even though I was using a generous dose, it was still like half full when it expired. They should just sell a half size version for half the price…
I love project panning and using up stuff! I've been doing a similar thing right now because i'm allowing myself to purchase a beauty advent calendar this year (lumene 90€, not a crazy expensive one) from a brand i really like and it mainly has skincare in it. So i wanna use up what i already have and not replace them because i'm getting a bunch of products with the calendar. That way i won't be overwhelmed by stuff and i also will be saving money by using up what i have.
Btw, a sheet mask lover here. Usually the serum is more than enough and you don't need a moisturizer on top of that. There's also a lot of serum in those packets usually that i get 2-3 more days by of taking the serum out with a brush and using up every last bit like that. But i get if you don't wanna do that!! Just what i do :)
Make up really lasts such a long time. I wish there were more tester/mini products so you can try them out for a week or so 😭 I'm into blush/lip tints and there almost never seems to be a mini size available
I appreciate this message so much! I've been seriously stressed, for a variety of reasons, and I deal with stress by shopping. My specific obsession at the moment is eyeshadow, and I've purchased so much recently that I can't even imagine how I could use it all. Actually, I never even intended to use it all ... those giant palettes have so much product, and I'll use mayyybe 4-6 shades out of 18. I recently bought one of the expensive Patrick Ta eyeshadow duos and wondered if it's better to buy an expensive duo product I'm more likely to hit pan on or spend the same amount for a big palette that I'll only use a few shades out of? So, I know the answer is to stop buying entirely for a while, but my coping mechanism blinds me to remember it. Thanks for the reminder to use what I have!
I keep an open basket near my vanity (where I do my skincare and makeup) of products and samples that I need to use up. Since I keep my regular skincare and makeup in behind drawers and cabinets, I find I’m more likely to reach for the items in my “use up” basket.
I am here from your project pan days!😁 Before the end of the year I want to finish some nettle tea that I have had a while, a self-tan that is even older than that and a red semi-permanent hair dye that is past the first flush of youth.
Fabulous idea! I don’t personally wear makeup, but I do have quite a lot of half-finished tins of loose leaf tea. I’m sure I could use several up, now that the weather is turning!
Perfect time to remind us that we have stuff to use up😅😅😅... I definitely have quite a few things I'm behind on... I want to finish up a lip mask, 2 lip balms, a blush, a sheet mask set, 3 mascaras, 3 serums, a pH lip balm, 2 glosses, 2 lip oils, 2 highlighters and a lipstick .
Something helpful to remember is that makeup can be used however you want! like the eyebrow pencil could be used as an eyeliner or brown lip liner. whatever works & could use it up faster!
I go through my whole collection around once a month and see what I feel inspired to wear, and do a pretty good job passing along things that don’t work for me. I think I’m about to be done with 5 lipsticks that I actually enjoyed using and wasn’t trying to pan! I get really overwhelmed when I see too many things, so having a capsule collection of 3-4 base products, 5-6 cheek options, and a theme to follow for eyes and lips that’s more prone to change helps me narrow down what looks I want to do. The rest I store in a dark drawer so it’s more protected, and if I really want to have a particular thing I know where it is 😂
Oh things I have found to help use things that are not quite the right shade- Foundation- I have a range since I can be a variety of shades through the year, so I have favorites that I know mix well so I can custom adjust. I also have a sheer bb cream to make things more sheer, and a glow balm in case something looks too matte. I have made a big dent in foundation this way. Lips- lipliner for things that are a bit too light, grey lipstick for ones that are too bright, black lipgloss for that purpose too. Depotting my many rituel de fille compacts into a vueset so I can custom mix or see things at a glance and not have the bulky same looking packaging to sort through. Highlighter I mix in with body cream if I want a glowy product instead of buying a devoted shimmer body oil/lotion. Skincare I have a good idea of what works for me and about how long I take to use up, I tend to pass on what doesn’t work to my roommate or his friend and I get more enjoyment out of that than trying to force myself to use something up I don’t like.
Honestly hats off to you for having the persistence to pan the moisturizer with a smell and texture you hate. I could never, that thing would be in the garbage so quickly. I think I might start a project pan for my hand creams, I have about eight tubes that have maybe three or four uses left and I just keep misplacing them around my house.
I discovered your channel because YT recommended one of your project pan videos to me. I highly recommend taking pictures of your makeup every once in a while to see the progress. I think that's really satisfying, especially if you don't project pan and therefore don't have a lot of visible progress from month to month, but from one year to the next it might be visible. I have always been very conscious of not buying functional dupes and keeping my collection small but versatile, so I never thought a classic project pans would make sense for me. But I'm doing Deck of Panning this year to gamify my makeup usage. I've also tracked my organic makeup usage for a few years now with a soft goal of 5 uses each per product (I count usage for each pan individually)
I'm inspired! It won't be makeup though. I work from home and even though my fantasy is to wake up and do my face and put on a cute outfit everyday, it just ain't gonna happen. But I definitely have some skincare stuff I could finish by January.
Re: using things you don't like on your face as body lotion. Most sunscreen is basically a moisturizer, so if one feels bad about throwing that away (provided you like the texture and smell,) use it as body lotion. This summer I used up all my just-about-to-expire Kinship sunscreen as body sunscreen in one trip to the waterpark. Beats tossing it!
I always loooove your project pan videos because they motivate me to make good use of my own makeup and skincare! So here's hoping you enjoy this project pan and do more next year ❤ Oh, and I keep an Excel spreadsheet tracking my beauty products 😂
i think for me it would need to be nail polish top coats... I went through a big... not really declutter but a check in with my nailpolish bin and I ended up throwing out 6 polishes that were over 5 years old because the formula just wasn't aging well. But in the process i realized i had a bunch of thick topcoats just floating around.
Oh i like this idea, i dont wear makeup but i have other products i have that have been sitting around needing to be used. Idk why i didnt really think about the end of the year as a goal to use some products up to clear up space.
"we're gonna use it, well I'M gonna use it, it's not like we can collectively use it" I mean we can cut it up in tiny square and each have a tiny square of moisturized skin, it's better than nothing
I started doing this a month ago! I don't have a lot of beauty products but I don't like having doubles (like owning 2 foundations or 2 bodylotions at the same time) so I started using my things up to get rid of the products that I already have one of. It's so satisfying using something up that has been taking space up in your drawers!
I started using up my face masks as just an in shower face cleanser, they work fine. Like you I don't really like sitting around with stuff on my face but people keep gifting them to me 😅 I panned my Elf eyebrow gel recently which was so satisfying!
So here’s a newbie question, if you hate the product (wrong color, doesn’t work, etc) why not give it away or throw it away and not buy a replacement. I know the whole point is to reduce waste but if you dread a product, why would you use it?
Make up isn’t generally safe to give away if it’s been used. If the pan or applicators have been in contact with your skin, it’s no longer hygienic and could transfer infection.
I think the community is split on this. Some people would say throw it away, give it away, or repurpose it somehow. I'd agree with that if the thing is giveaway-able. However, a lot of my stuff is old....and I mean old old and would not feel comfortable doing that. So, if the item is useable I try to find someway to use it. Sometimes I can't and cut my losses.
I love this channel for normalizing normal consumption. 😩 Didn't realize how much I needed this kind of content because almost no one in my daily life is like this. Question if anyone in the comments can help: I should have known better not to buy eyeliner as someone who wears next to no makeup, but... I bought an eyeliner pencil a year(ish) ago that I have no intention of using up. 😬 I used it maybe 3 times. Are there any creative ways to use up an eyeliner pencil that don't involve actually putting it on your face?
Eyeliner pencil is great for any kind of body art, not just eyeliner. I used to use it to write reminders or just doodle on my arms because it’s easy to wash off but still clear/obvious enough to write with.
depending on the kind of eyeliner you could use it for art or journaling purposes. I used an eyeliner in my art journal to help finish it up. Eyeliner can also (depending on the colour/formula) be used as eyeshadow, or for making faux freckles if you were interested in finding alternate makeup related ways to use it. If you sew, you could potentially use it for marking fabric? That could be worth a try.
I have been on a lip product no buy this year. I have only restocked on 1-2, and purchased 1 which I was influenced into and ended up not liking very much. I’ve finished 31 lip products so far this year! That includes lip balm, lip oils, and lip gloss. 😊 I’m going to keep going! It was hard at first but as time as gone on I’m more excited to use what I have than to purchase.
So excited for this video - i really love your personal project videos & using things up! I am going to use some fancy eye mask patches and hopefully this Ordinary conditioner I bought this month and really don't like. I'm like you and hate to waste product, otherwise I would throw it away. I am using it as a shave cream and mixing with a deep conditioner on my hair just to try to power through using it up. 😊
I found a girl to donate items to on a "NO BUY" site . I reach out to her and see if she wants my gently used beauty products. I also use skincare on my body that I am not super hip about. I hate waste and love your content. We don't need half the junk that we consume and it's out of control with the influencer content. Thanks for being amazing! XOXO
I just saw a shorts "shop and restock" video saying she bought a new toothbrush because she was just sick and needed to replace the old one. I was in shock, wondering if this was something everyone does and i never learned. But no, it's not necessary even though google has some dentists suggesting it, we cant get sick from our OWN germs. If we share a toothbrush then sure lol, we would get sick. But we cant reinfect ourselves from using our own toothbrush after being sick, we already developed the antibodies to that strain of cold/virus. Replace every 3 months or when its worn out not after every cold!
Girl, you bought this stuff years ago. Sometimes we buy things that don't work out or our tastes change. Panning things you don't like is punishment, and makeup should be fun! You paid for it long ago, you used so much of them, you got your money's worth...it's okay to get rid of them.❤
🤩your eyeshadow is so pretty!! I've been watching you for a few days, going through some sort of emotional thing, wanting to buy things I don't need, etc. and really enjoying your perspective. I'd love to hear your thoughts on "prepping" (not necessarily disaster preparedness) and the "homesteading movement" where anyone with a chicken and a garden is a homesteader but you haven't really made it until you have a food dehydrator.
For the sheetmask- You usally use it before going to bed or when you don't have to put makeup on top of it so you don't have to put anything on top of it. You can do it tho if you want to
I've been working on using things up since before I moved a few months ago! Packing really made it easy to take stock of everything I had, and categorize it as needed ie. Toss/keep/use asap Still working on it, but I've managed to finish off quite a few things so far 😊
I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup as of late. I was such a makeup girly years ago. Things are changing rn. I have unsubscribed from a ton of beauty/fragrance content for now. We’ll see how this goes!
omg I watched a while ago a video like this from you and I am going through my lip sticks and glosses. I have gone through two lip balms that had color and were like half way through, and right now I'm almost done with a lip gloss!
Sometimes I end up throwing little things out (like the face mask) because I know myself and if I don’t like it, I just won’t be using it and if I used that much, it’s good enough for me. I’ve recently finished two night creams. I definitely preferred one over the other, but I consider that a good thing.
How do you have products last you so long without going bad? My lip products start to smell weird after a couple months. I do leave them in my pockets for easily reapplication so maybe my body heat makes them go bad faster??
Im traveling long term and due to go home end of November so I want to take home the least amount of products as possible. Working on lotion, Moisturizer, eye cream, hair product, eye shadow stick that is broken but I want to use up.
Like why put things on your skin that you don't like? .Girl just except fact the money spend is gone project pan feels like sunk cost fallacy at this point .Girly pop you did good just give yourself the freedom to let go ❤
I don't use this stuff at all, so I don't open it. Then it's good for donation to charity shop, anyone looking for tombola/raffle prizes, foodbank that takes toiletries, or regifting. I know a lot of people don't approve of regifting but, personally, I have no problem. I do, however, do my very best to only give things to people who will actually use them.
Maybe you can use up face moisturiser by putting it on your hands or feet for example? I do this every time) sorry my english is not so good.. anyway, love your channel 💗

I get really overwhelmed when I see too many things, so having a capsule collection of 3-4 base products, 5-6 cheek options, and a theme to follow for eyes and lips that’s more prone to change helps me narrow down what looks I want to do. The rest I store in a dark drawer so it’s more protected, and if I really want to have a particular thing I know where it is 😂
Oh things I have found to help use things that are not quite the right shade-
Foundation- I have a range since I can be a variety of shades through the year, so I have favorites that I know mix well so I can custom adjust.
Never heard of a pan project before. Think I'll try this with stationery sticker sheets. I have barely any makeup.
Been hate panning an essence lip balm & another gloopy NYX butter gloss. Both are pink which I don't like anymore.
I love seeing a new Shawna video!! The work you do is so valuable, thank you for sharing your voice!
So here's hoping you enjoy this project pan and do more next year ❤
Oh, and I keep an Excel spreadsheet tracking my beauty products 😂
Your project pan videos have helped me to use up all sorts of products and has kept me from buying more of what I already have.
i think for me it would need to be nail polish top coats...
Using up face cleaners and moisturizers
"we're gonna use it, well I'M gonna use it, it's not like we can collectively use it" I mean we can cut it up in tiny square and each have a tiny square of moisturized skin, it's better than nothing
😂😂 could you imagine i cut it up and mail everyone a tiny piece of face mask
@@shawnaripari 📣merch everybody 📣
Love this! I've been replacing my usual beauty products with all cruelty-free ones so this is a perfect goal.
your vids make my day better thank u queen keep it up
I started doing this a month ago!
That's a good idea, I still have some from when I got a subscription box, and I never use them.
@ thank you for responding! That makes so much more sense. I’ll have to go thru my stuff this weekend and see what’s going on
I love this channel for normalizing normal consumption.
@@crollo321 These are such good ideas, thank you. 🥹
depending on the kind of eyeliner you could use it for art or journaling purposes.
@@shawnaripari It's time to get crafty. 🤔 Thank you Shawna 🫶
Ohhh Great ideas! 👀 You've inspired me to draw a kitten using an older eyeliner 🐈🐾
Message to everyone wanting to buy a plumping lipgloss/lipstick: don't buy anything with chili in it, the usage will be painful and it tastes weird 😭
Girl, you bought this stuff years ago. Sometimes we buy things that don't work out or our tastes change. Panning things you don't like is punishment, and makeup should be fun! You paid for it long ago, you used so much of them, you got your money's worth...it's okay to get rid of them.❤
Candle hoarders, you also need to do this 😅
🤩your eyeshadow is so pretty!!
OMG. I have chickens, gardens, AND a dehydrator but I would never consider myself a homesteader. I just live on 2.1 acres surrounded by farms.
I usually find sheet masks hydrating enough with all the extra serum in the packet that I can skip moisturizer for the night
Yay! A project pan!
Toss/keep/use asap
Still working on it, but I've managed to finish off quite a few things so far 😊
I am actively trying to use all of mine I want more but nope not until I use what I have. Trying to be strong. It’s hard 😂
I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup as of late. I was such a makeup girly years ago. Things are changing rn. I have unsubscribed from a ton of beauty/fragrance content for now. We’ll see how this goes!
I always panned my skincare and make up.
omg I watched a while ago a video like this from you and I am going through my lip sticks and glosses.
Me: envisioning a Shawna live stream when we all put on that damn face mask (or whatever it is!) we've been meaning to use :)
How do you have products last you so long without going bad? My lip products start to smell weird after a couple months. I do leave them in my pockets for easily reapplication so maybe my body heat makes them go bad faster??
Shawna! An idea for the face mask is to put it in your shower so you can put it on when you get in and wash it off while you’re in there 😊
Im traveling long term and due to go home end of November so I want to take home the least amount of products as possible. Working on lotion, Moisturizer, eye cream, hair product, eye shadow stick that is broken but I want to use up.
Like why put things on your skin that you don't like?
.Girl just except fact the money spend is gone project pan feels like sunk cost fallacy at this point .Girly pop you did good just give yourself the freedom to let go ❤
Now this is a trend I can get behind ❤️ ☺️
I stop using products when I get down to the last little bit because I don’t want to finish it if it’s something I like
How do you guys deal with skincare that you get as gifts? I have so much lotion that I can't possibly use it all up
@@Adikova97 regifting 😁
If it's brand new never opened, you could donate it to a food bank or shelter (just check first if it's something they'd accept).
I put all of my skincare on UNDER a sheet mask. But if you don’t like them why don’t you give that one to someone who does since it is new and sealed?
i want to use everything by the end of the year and if I do not, I will either donate them or throw them away!!
Any ideas on how to use up a can of Moroccan Oil heat protection spray. Doesn't suit my hair or anyone else's I have offered it to. Shame to bin it
you can try using that mask on another area of your body. larger surface area and boom you’re done
Maybe you can use up face moisturiser by putting it on your hands or feet for example?
I do this every time) sorry my english is not so good.. anyway, love your channel 💗
I have bath and body body cream and I always just go for lotion. It feels thicker. What do you guys think
Omgee, I hate face masks too! Thank you for saying this! Lol I thought I was the only girl that hated this. 😂
I won't buy anything, but I lose stuff and get distracted for months at a time so using things up may be a challenge
Maybe try to use that face mask as a face wash?
Holla!
when I don't really like a face cream I use it on my body. gets through it faster!🥲
