This is a rule that applies and is enforced on the ATC network VATSIM, in the VATSIM rules it states that you are not allowed to recreate or use callsigns from past tragedies. So, you can do whatever you want in base Flight Simulator, but there are rules to be followed on networks like VATSIM or IVAO.

Major difference 9/11 was terrorist attacks on Americans civilians unprovoked. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both military targets with ports, factories and the Japanese 2nd army command center

The ban occurred for FS2002. They decided to change the game right before release because word got out that the hijackers used FS to prepare for the attack. They also wanted to prevent anybody else from trying to do the same thing using their product.
I had flight SIM 99 at the time and did this a bunch. I remember my stepdad coming in and was just impressed I could fly it with the keyboard because I couldn't get his joystick working. I was probably 10 haha

Neither side deserved the deaths they got, except maybe as you said the Japanese higher ups. But as a citizen of a nation what your nation and government do affect the entire population. including innocents. Again, neither sides are justified and yes, many innocent people were killed. But so were Innocent Americans and soldiers at that. Do I think the murders were ok? No. Do I think the nuclear bomb was overkill? Also no. You can't attack the military of one of the worlds if not the world's strongest country at the time and not expect large retaliation. That's my take on things at least. And I don't believe the US deserves punishment either, Japan has commit many war crimes and attacked a nation that wasn't even involved in their war. And also at the time nuclear bombs weren't considered war crimes. So the US' actions at the time weren't even illegal.

I imagine it’s likely because they didn’t want people “training” to do attacks like that inside of their game. MSFS is very realistic and could likely serve as a training aid.

Major difference 9/11 was terrorist attacks on Americans civilians unprovoked. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both military targets with ports, factories and the Japanese 2nd army command center

I'm VERY active in the flightsim community and this is the first I've heard of anyone being "banned". The scenery doesn't change, for one. You can set it to 1784 and it's still modern NYC.

The ban occurred for FS2002. They decided to change the game right before release because word got out that the hijackers used FS to prepare for the attack. They also wanted to prevent anybody else from trying to do the same thing using their product.
