  • With my X-Carve taking up every square inch of my workbench, I needed to do something and fast. In this video, I do that something and build a foldable table for my X-Carve. I hope to have plans up for this soon, but nothing as of now. Follow along!

    You can find a cut list for this project in the following link. Note this is not a full set of plans, just the dimensions for each cut in the project. dura.works/plans/xcarve-folding-table-cut-list.pdf

      Your cut list is a HUGE help. There is one additional measurement that would be most helpful. Can you share the size of the holes and exact center measurements for the pivot point on the two sides please? It appears that the holes are 12-3/8 back on the torsion top. Would you agree? Thank you!

    • @DuraWoodworks
      @DuraWoodworks  4 роки тому

      @@DonG-xn2lu On the torsion box, the holes are drilled 13 5/8" down the back. On the sides they are 1" down from the top, and 2 1/2" in from the back. As for the size of the holes, that depends on the size of the bolts you are using. I used 1/2" bolts, but 5/16" should work too.

    • @DuraWoodworks
      @DuraWoodworks  4 роки тому

      Of note, this measurement is on the assembled torsion box.

    Hey I would just like to say thanks for the design idea. I know you got it from Tara’s design on the forum but your video helped a lot. I also downloaded plans and together mine came out great. I added the flip up side table for my laptop and I added a strap on front of the table to help raise and lower it. I also screwed in a block of would to keep the legs from moving. Anyway thanks again. I watched this video over 20 times. I also wanted to say thanks for the x carve build video. It really helped a lot.

    I've watched a few folding table solutions for the X Carve... this the best I've seen to date. Many attach the folding shelf directly to a wall... a problem on three counts... vibration transmitted through the building, It is fixed in only one location, no access around all four sides. This is great... will need to construct something 'very similar when my X Carve arrives.

    Just completed this build and your video and cut list was extremely helpful. I changed the width of the cabinet to 20" deep and the draw cabinet is 12" wide. You don't need legs with that depth. I just added a sliding bolt either side at the front to hold the table when horizontal. This works really well. One question, did you have to extend your cables for when the table is flipped vertical ? only mine don't seem to be long enough.

  • @richardspencer742
    @richardspencer742 4 роки тому

    Has anyone had any issues over time storing an X Carve vertically. Most dont and since I have not bought one yet, I dont know how much strain that puts on any of the parts. I know the new version has a stiffer extruded rail and the router doesnt weigh too much but that's my concern with a vertical storage solution. LOOKS amazing and efficient. Great job!

  • @tighecrovetti2844
    @tighecrovetti2844 4 роки тому

    What do you think about taking this basic idea and making it a complete flip top? I'm thinking some kind of brackets that fit over the X-axis - one on either side of the router - and attach to the threaded inserts in the wasteboard for support? That, and probably several more of the Inventables brackets/t-nuts at locations under the wasteboard to hold the frame to the top surface?
    I was thinking of making this as a cart that could either hold the surface vertically for efficient storage, CNC side up for carving, or the other side up, and equip that with dog holes and t-track to use as an assembly and outfeed table.

    The only change I might make to the front legs might have been a bolts with a rubber pad that screw in and out from the bottoms of the legs just in case the trolley is moved to an uneven section of the floor... very minor point though.
