VW Jetta 1.9 TDI Diesel Hard Cold Start and Drive -1°F (-18°C) ALH with 270,000 miles

- 2003 VW Jetta Wagon 1.9L TDI with original ALH engine, injectors, and pump and over 270,000 miles. I have set the injection pump pulley to just a tad below the green line in the timing graph and used adaption to advance the timing to 33000 which is about 3° advanced. Makes cold starting easier, seems to have increased my MPG a little and definitely more power in the higher RPMs. It's got an EGR delete, stage 2 tune, cat delete, and coolant heater from FrostHeater(didn't use it this time because my roommate beat me home). My lifetime(about 1 year) average is 49.5MPG with my best tank getting 816 miles! Hopefully, this will be the start of some new videos! :) I have been gone forever. I hope you all are doing well an enjoyed this video!
Keep exploramenting and thank you for watching!
Don't forget to subscribe for more! www.youtube.com...
Havent heard from this guy in 2 years. I miss the industrious videos. They inspired and motivated me.
Watch look up Joachim hall video
@@craftymulligar thank you, looks like he's doing well. that makes me glad.
Please don't let your channel die.
I used to love his diy engines, but he seemingly forgot about them
Too late. 😢
@@cmw184 yeah
He's working as an engineer now, he probably has less time for these youtube videos
@@Landauh I know he's probably making millions.
Sad to see such good channels die... I still hope the legend comes back
Look up Joachim hall it looks like maker j . The photo he's a engineer. Maybe no time for these videos watch the video
Bro we miss you, your fridge compressor engine and other projects have been very inspiring to me please come back and make more content
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ..???? .. Mis the vids man ..
Rip another wonderful channel
Sad
Please, don't let your channel die.
Too late Know
I forgot how loud older diesels are compared to the latest engines!
Zylon FPV Older diesels sound better and they‘re nearly indestructible
@@mr.wasgehtsiedasan4148 yeah I love my old diesels too hahaha
We miss you man and hope your life is going well with nothing but bright horizons
Miss this freaking channel.
i'm happy this channel existed
man I do miss this channel. great memories
Tractor started pretty well! That’s what I tell my son when he fires up his 2004 Jetta TDI 🤓 in the morning when he leaves for school
Where have you been i remember being so amazed watching your awesome videos. Please come back
After almost 1 year
The last video from the cool tdi guy
You gotta love your 1.9TDi!
When your glowplugs are running, it will always start, even at -25°C, but yours are dryer than a nuns nasty!
We can only hope that he will return
It shouldn't start that hard. Are the glow plugs okay? We have plenty of old diesel VW cars here in europe and they start fine even at -25C. Just gotta have good glow plugs.
Yeah it should not start that hard. On my ALH after verification the glow plugs were functional I bleed the injectors and now it fires right up in freezing temps.
Timing and/or glow plugs. Or temp sensor. This engine should not start like this
It also depends on the fuel.
I would suggest rebuilding the fuel pump, our Audi B4 80 used to die after it started up and it would start like in the video
It depends on the oil used in the engine too
Salute the legend 💪
Please come back
Come back man.
i own a Passat 1.9tdi 96kw with 350k miles and man oh man i love it. but i'm happy that i got the Passat, not a Golf which was my first chioce back then. the passat is just that much more comfy and quiet. still love the old diesel. even though i'm not allowed to go into cities. because germany sux ass sometimes. but luckily i live out in the country
Where are the videos?
Hey man are you ok?
Please
Don't let your channel die 🌺
Lol I think you need new glowplugs, or just leave them on longer. The old tractor I used to drive needed a good minute on glow before it started.
Look for an inductor symbol on your dash lights when they first come on. Wait till the light goes out, then start. On cold mornings double glow by turning ignition off then on again.
And upload more lol
He prolly did it once. These TDI's need 3 or 4 glow plug cycles if you want it to start the first time in freezing temps, and additionally it starts much better with any kind of tune or timing advance.
Probably working for NASA now
Dude finish the compressor motor series...
Why did you stop uploading
New diesel engines have new tech its pretty straight forward that they will start better than a higher milage older diesel engine...
What happened to you!? This had all the makings of a great channel!
please come back man
Will you post regularly again, or UA-cam just isn’t your thing anymore?
Oh hey. I knew you weren't dead because I saw a photo of you in Backyard Scientists video a while back but still...
It's been 2 years 🧐
please don't let your channel die its been one year since you didnt post any videos
RIP we will miss him!!!
Bro I am waiting for the spark system video for the refrigerator compressor 2 stroke engine🥺...please come back
Keep posting! Please!
My friends 82 datsun patrol (now nissan) starts real easy, even easier than your car but only when you heat it with the plugs for about 15 seconds. Any less than that and youre just cranking it for a few seconds more tbh. Love the sound of the straightpiped 3 liter inline 6 in it
very nice cold start. I did one on mine, 2005 Passat GLS wagon with the 2.0L BHW TDI the engine is called the Pumpe-Duse engine, it had about 196K on it when I did the cold start video, on my channel, and it had only one working glow plug out of four. now it has all new glowplugs and a Frostheater( it didn't have it before). I average about 32mpg. This past week I had to have it plugged in due we got down to -32 f, with it plugged in it popped right off. Also the cold part in the country was Cotton, MN at -55.9 F. Glad to see you are back. Also I got a tractor project on my channel now.
Glad to see you back on youtube!
I sure miss this channel.
Duude, come on, please make an another video for home made combustion engine
Vraiment très très heureux de te revoir sur UA-cam.
Impressive. Back in the day I had an 86 diesel jetta and when it got super cold I'd have to use jumper cables to hook the battery directly to the glow plug on the master cylinder to get it going. Pain in the ass when it was that frigid, but it worked.
Haven't heard from him in 5 years!! Where are you?? In any case, I want to thank you for your videos!! No pressure, but we miss you!! I hope that everything is fine.
Yes, it's been a while. Still alive!
Howdy MakerJ ~ Haven't heard from you in a while. Missed Cabin Fever this year, although I've made improvements to my "large" midget engine. Hope you are doing well.
Hey Hank! I know, I was looking for you at Cabin Fever! I missed seeing you there and talking about engines! I've been well. Busy with work and have been hiking a lot. I'm starting to seriously thinking about starting the channel back up. I miss tinkering on my own instead of just at work. I hope all is well with you!
@@makerj101 Please do otherwise I subscribed to a death channel :(
@@makerj101 man please come back, you inspired my new project of 3d printing a ic engine, which is going well, also camden bowen inspired me to, have to give him a lot of credit, his videos are awesome. but please make more videos! i would watch anything man!
He's back!
Welcome back
It's funny to me how your tach goes all the way up to 5. I am used to driving trucks, so they were usually governed at like 2200, and the red line was at 3000. Sometimes I miss having a 10 speed.
That's crazy to me! My 2001 Accord goes up to 8000 rpm
That's what mine sounds like starting up in the warm... starts up down in the cold
he's alive!!
Hey man why you stop making vedios?
It's been a while, I live in Florida and it's a cool 56° F
god its been a minute hope your doing ok man
Hey did you make a commercial for Otto insurance?
I just watched a commercial and the guy in it Looked like an older version of you in these UA-cam videos. you have a signature voice and if this person is not you he has your exact same signature voice. It has to be you.
We miss you
So sad dude I really liked your channel really wanted you to keep working on your home made combustion engine
YOU ARE ALIVEEEEEE
POV: smarter every day
where are you why are you not back on the channel?
How are you doing sir? Havent seen you in a long time, are you doing good? Miss your videos
Upload more videos!
Omg amazing please do more!!
Meh, my dad's Audi 80 1.9tdi 66kw starts up at -22c easier than this. But I think the timing in messed up a little bit because it idles hard
I would suggest trying to rebuild the fuel pump, usually if you can see air in the fuel lines it means that you need to rebuild it
miss this lil nigga like you wouldnt believe
please come back its bean 4years 😢
How has life been? You have to keep us updated!
Where have you been man, we need more content from you
He's alive?

Woah youre alive
Missed you ☺
rip maker101
So, now we all see that you are alive, got any projects up your sleeve??
Where are you man
internal combustion engine?
we need videos!!!!
Hey man I came across your videos about the steam engine. Wanted to ask you if you can make a steam cleaner out of your boiler? Trying to find ways on building my own inexpensive steamer relatively close to the Optima Steamers functionality.
I wonder what hes up to nowadays...
When is the next update?
VW with 270k? That's your problem right there. This car starts about as well as my Yugo in the cold.
ok so the previous owner deleted my glowplugs and all the wiring when he built my engine and it gets as low as -20 F so how can i actually start my car this winter?
Smooth! :D
come back
Wednesday Feb 24 2021 at 10:39 I'm having to unsub because I'm cleaning my subs out I loved your compressor engine build dude hope you having a good life and all is well hope if you start losing again someone will comment on this to notify me
Edit to add date
yo man, wanted to ask you if you ever tried to put 2 coils 1 pick up the other reciever in a condenser like leyden jar and use high voltage with the ground instead of +-~
holy f*** you are not dead halelujah i was afraid about that
He died again
If you are still around. Come back maker j 101
U alive ? Btw found ur chanel from old series why not make lawmower engine convert to side engine

What happened to the VW Golf?
