Crom is certainly a gloomy god, one whom is interesting because most authors and creatives seem to in some fashion as you pointed out model him after Odin, and yet Odin is a 'Sky-Father' of sorts, whereas Crom is more of a chthonian-earth god or 'mountain-god' having more in common with the ancient titaness Rheia. The Celtic origins of the deity that you pointed out are also interesting and perfectly in line with Howard, I do wonder if maybe we're supposed to see Crom as the perfect meeting place between heaven and earth due to his Mountain.
Odin is exactly that, a mountain god who lives in Asgard. The Aesir live in fells which are hills or mountains in Norse mythology. Asgard is the same as Mount Olympus, if it were ruled by Hades
I find the Cimmerian religion (if we can call it that) fascinating. The Cimmerians acknowledge the existence of gods but want nothing to do with them. The feeling seems to be mutual. It's very deist. Conan himself certainly never acts with reverence to any other deity or temple during his travels, so we can almost infer that Cimerians consider the entire affair of prayer and worship to be foolish. It isn't until the events of "The Phoenix..." at the end of Conan's adventures that he has any sort of positive experience with a foreign god even indirectly.
what do you mean " positive experience " in this case ?? how can he experience negative with crom when crom never reach out in the first place , though out conan life all what he had with crom was only the acknowledge of crom existence and that pretty much it
@@seferino It's more that Crom already give humans all the abilities they need to survive the world when they were born. If they couldn't do so, then either git gud or get fucked. Crom would honor weak people that choose to take actions rather than none at all, to ask for his boons and gifts is akin to spitting the very gifts he gave to mortals when they were born. In this case the Cimmerians. If Gods can give their chosen people their boons or favors, Crom would be the one to buff you to hell and back before you were born, and then throw you to a tigers den. Whether you survive that ordeal is entirely up to you, heck even praising him would only piss him off.
Very good video! I especially liked the narration. I still know very little about the Conan setting, I recently decided to learn more after discovering its ties with the Cthulhu mythos. So far I'm enjoying its primal, ancestral, brutal but very evocative nature. Keep it up!
Seems like the perfect God, he gives you life and expects you to be independent of him no strings attached. In a way, that's the ultimate freedom and responsibility. Its makes sense that Crom dislikes the weak, they waste that "gift".
Great work and love the imagery you used in the video. I didn't read much of the newer Marvel Conan but that image of Crom's Mountain in the beginning and ending of the video they really nailed it in how I would envision it looking in my mind.
That picture of king connan reminds me i need to watch the second season of samurai jack there was one episode where we see a similar future prediction of jack as a kind after killing aku i wonder if they came bck to it
The Cimmerian people are the descendants of the even more ancient people of Atlantis. Pure blooded Cimmerian clans became the Gaelic people of the British Isles (primarily the Scottish Gaels, yes that includes the historical Picts), while a number of them after pushing the Hyrkanians back eastward and destroying Turan, followed the Hyrkanians interbreed with the peoples there and return westward as the Scythians. They also gave their homelands name to what is now Crimea.
He approves of your own strength, as he gave you the one gift that allows you as a man to persevere. Praying to him in general will send horrors from his mountain to you
Celt/Scottish Gael, but huge. Unfortunately, he is misrepresented as being Germanic. The gods will not aid you, they favour the strong! Fortuna adiuvat fortes! One reason why the klingons killed their gods... (considering them useless bastards! 😅😂)
I just realized Crom is a combination of Christ and Rama or Ram (pronounced rahm) Ive joking claimed I worship Krishna as God, Christ as the spiritual savior and Crom as the material God King of this temprary world. I believe Krishna and Christ to be real and Crom, similar to the temprary nature of reality, to be the imagined God of this material world yet real in this world.
i was fully considering starting my own conan channel because of the severe lack of conan content on youtube. This is incredible, thank you!
Thank you! yea thats why i started to do some videos on Conan hah, severe lack of content.
Do it. The more the better.
ELRIC channel would be more original
Please do
If you have the passion & the means, do it. We need more content out there. Go for it
Ah yes, Crom...the god of "git gud, casuls".

Crom is kinda close to Hindu God Shiva.
Odin isn't the sky father, he is the all father. In Norse mythology, Tyr is the sky father

i have never prayed to you before I HAVE NO TOUNG FOR IT
Really happy to find a channel dedicated to Conan. I've subscribed.

I think in terms of spirituality its somewhat left hand path oriented. The "worship" of crom is worship of the self.

But also the Crom seems to be a selfish and hateful god. He doesn't care at all for humans problems. 😑😑

Great content. Loved ur narration. It felt so real. All I know about conan is the 1982 movie so I came here from his prayer to crom.
Read all the Howard I could in my youth great stories don’t forget all his other great characters 👍🏻

Thanks for your research!
Great stuff man. Excellent work. If I could live in any literary world, it would be Robert E. Howard's Hyborean Age.
More please!
Outstanding video! Crom is pleased!😎👍
My man this video is awesome! Can you do Mitra next?

Thank you, this is the perfect comment, too many people spread misinformation in other videos
So if Crom sees prayers as weakness and annoys him... What if someone prays for bigger battles? Does he approve for the persons strenght or not?
He approves of your own strength, as he gave you the one gift that allows you as a man to persevere. Praying to him in general will send horrors from his mountain to you
"Bruh, Do you need a map?! Find some bigger battles yourself!"
I find it fascinating that my ancestors the celts worshiped Crom
Mirta God was mentioned a lot as well. 😊
Super
Crom is an earth god, and all he asks is that you become the Chaddiest Chad who ever Chadded.
Lmaooo😂
Crom is the closest thing to the god i belive in
And if you do not listen then to hell with you ,gotta love it
Conan is criminally underrated. We need Peter Jackson style movies and Netflix Castlevania style anime. Also, zero woke agenda.
Absolutely!!
Hopefully the director will be a worshipper of Crom.
@Communist Hippie one can hope!
Whats the music in the background?
my own that i made.
Impresive, can you maybe make a video where you have only the music, so one can listen to it while relaxing?
It would be realy nice to listen to it while traveling somwhere
@@matejabutas interesting never thought of that, it is a short song looping wouldn't it get maybe a bit boring to have just that for a video?
Well do as you wish, but maybe make it a little bit longer.
Crom is a real ancient Celtic deity
The name was taken from the Irish god Crom Cruach
Set is a great old one in the cthulhu mythos?
Yeah his name is yig a snake God it's somewhere to set
CROMMMM........!!!
CROM is my username in Chivalry 2 Medieval Warfare.
Crom doesn't care.
Conan could be the UFC camp !
How pissed were you when Belit died? Conan was
Damn that's cruel god. 😑😑💯
Is Conan based on a nordic or slavic warrior. ?
Germanic
Cimmerian ancestors of the Welsh it's Celtic the Welsh name for Wales is Cymru
He is based on the celts since the He is cimmerian the counterpart to the ancient Irish warriors
@@arsnotoria3755the Germanic people in Conan were known as Nemedians

Crom is the god that inspired Khorne
Khorne cares, and he wants blood, granting his followers chaos powers, while Crom doesnt care, he has all he needs.
