back in the 70's I was a teenager, 80's in my twenties and 'bagging out' people who drove Ford or Holden or Chrysler was the "norm" but since I turned about 40 (now 60) I have grown to love and appreciate all brands of cars

Same here. Now all the old brands should band together. They're out to get us.

Adelaide was the home of Chrysler manufacturing in Australia. It had about 5 different plants at different times, the 2 main ones operating until they transitioned to Mitsubishi in the early 80's. Both now closed during this century.

Nice. I have owned over 350 Aussie Chryslers and restored most, including the K12 pursuit 265 HEMI Chargers. Here is a clip of one of my wins at the Newcastle Speedway Burnout Comp. Sorry about the quality as this particular clip was originally made small for mobile phones etc and slow internet speeds back then. :) ua-cam.com/video/xvHBJyYS9bg/v-deo.html

As a tip of the hat to Aussie engineers, am an expat Canuck living in Aus for the last 50 years. Don't take as gospel but story goes an Aussie race team running Aussie Chargers sent chassis and torsion
bars to Mopar engineers in the U.S. asking them to improve the handling. U.S. engineers sent back query " how the hell did you get it to handle this well ?" As I said, Gospel, who knows, but an interesting story none the less for Mopar maniacs like us !!! Alex

I learnt to drive on a Valiant ute with the slant 6 and three on the tree. It was my Dad's and he used it for his work as an additional car to the family sedan. Later on after the original ute rusted out, he upgraded to a VH ute with the 4.0L (245 CID) hemi six. That was light years ahead of the old one, went much harder and with disc brakes, it actually stopped. Though without a booster, you had stomp on the brakes, really hard. It also had some luxury features like seat belts, a heater and a radio.
I remember driving the VH home from Canberra and got it up to 175km/h on the speedo on the Hume Freeway and the oil pressure light came on! That was incentive to pull over and check the oil level. It was OK, so I think the oil pump just couldn't cope with the speed and revs. I didn't try that again. Dad would've been a little upset if I blew up the engine.
A mate had an ex-police Charger with the 360 V8. That thing could really move.

It is so amazing how people all over the world care so good for the automotive heritage. Those cars only get less. Not a single one will be produced. And at the same time it is pure and honest engineering. I totally love mopars.

They sold the 300c from 2005 till 2012 and the 300 from 2012 till 2021. But they never officially sold the Dodge Charger or Challenger here during those time periods. There are Chargers and Challengers here but they were all imported privately and converted to right hand drive here. I owned a 300c 5.7l hemi from 2005 and changed to the 2012 300 SRT8 6.4L (392cu)in late 2012. Which I still have as my daily driver, Mopar or no Car for life haha.

We’ve had the 300s here since the mid 2000s but I was told the brakes had to be up rated before they could be sold, not sure how true that was but that’s what I was told. As for the murican trucks, they are getting pretty common here now. Lots of Rams, Silverados and F150-F250s here now too. But I probably see more Rams than any other where I am. Also it’s a long weekend here in Australia for ANZAC day on Monday.

I owned a Sky Blue 1970 2 door Valiant Regal back in the late 70's. I bought it 2nd hand from my uncle. It was a (manual) 3 on tree with a 245 hemi under the bonnet. I never had mags or wide tyres but It went like the clappers. Trust me, there is no greater experience/lesson than being branded by the old style seatbelt buckle or losing 4 layers of skin from sitting on the hot vinyl seats in the middle of summer. I am sure that most of us South Aussies in my generation (boomers) will know exactly what I am talking about.

Yes we can import cars. In case you missed it, the car the guy was driving to the show is a left hand drive; and as you know, we drive right hand vehicles down here.
If you replay the video you will notice that many of the cars on show are, indeed, left hand drive.
Yeah, respect the others...But Mopar had the biggest and fastest motors; and they designed the sexiest cars no question.

There used to be an event called "Chryslers on the Murray". Not sure if it still runs but i have always liked Mopars thanks to "Dukes of Hazzard", although ive always prefferred the Aussie chargers over the American ones. I once had an AP5 Valiant as a paddock basher until a mate hit a wombat hole and tore the passenger side front wheel off. Mitsubishi took over Chrysler Australia and made cars here from 1978 to 2008. Ive owned a number of their cars including the mirage in my profile pic (which was recently written off due to storm damage) and now own the last Australian built model of Mitsubishi. I still kind of consider them Chryslers as they were manufactured in the same plant as the Aussie Chryslers

Heartening to see a few Regal hardtops in the lineup. My first car was a ‘73 VJ Regal Hardtop that I bought in ‘80. Had the 318 v8 with the 727 tranny on the column. It was a great car. Lowered, mags and a nice twin system exhaust …. And a pretty big Holley. It turned heads for sure. Wish I still had it of course.

Ian, Chrysler Australia didn't really get the far out colours until 69-70 but there were a few that were the same or very similar to the American Paint Eg. Sublime = Green Glow, Plum Crazy = Plum Metallic, Vitamin C/Go Mango = Vitamin C, Hemi Orange = Hemi Orange and others.

Chrysler had their factory in Adelaide until the start of the 1980's. Chryslers were the number three seller in Australian with Holden one as they started manufacture in Australia in 1948 with Ford and Chrysler starting in the early 1960's. All three had assembled cars from imported chassis and mechanical parts with local panels and trim from much earlier.
Chryslers were strong sellers in South Australia and because of the dry climate appear to have the largest number of well preserved Australian manufactured Chryslers.
The Biggest Australian Mopar meet is the "Chryslers on the Murray" which has been held by the Albury Wodonga Chrysler club since 1992.

Great vid. From memory, all aussie Chryslers are based on the A-body platform. You can see this in dash and instruments, door handles, mirrors and such. Theres so many 'oh, that bit is off a Dart, or US Valiant ' etc. Its part of why we love them so much... they're all related!! As an '07 300C owner(yes, it has a Hemi), its a worthy successor to the '68 Valiant VIP i owned in the '90s. And the only car ive had since that has 'it'... that Mopar feeling.

The CL series Charger was introduced in late October 1976 and was the last Charger model made in Australia, it featured new front bodywork and was expected to be designated as the VL series, but Chrysler decided to rename it CL to reflect the corporate Chrysler name which was now being applied over the whole range of cars sold in Australia.
The Charger XL variant was deleted (except for police duties) such that the CL series offered only the Charger 770 for public sale.
CL Charger Drifter (A34, A49 options): Late in the life of the CL Charger, Chrysler introduced the Drifter Pack option which was made available in four body colour choices, namely Spinnaker White (A34), Impact Orange (A49), Sundance Yellow (A49), and Harvest Gold (A49). This was basically a cosmetic option inspired by features found on the Chrysler Drifter panel van. These cars were available in a choice of 4.3 L (262.4 cu in) or 5.2 L (317.3 cu in) engines, but only with 4-speed manual transmission.
Chrysler's manufacturing production of the Charger ceased on 16 August 1978.

    Ian,
Adelaide is the city (suburb of Tonsley Park) where the Australian Chryslers were built.
The only later Mopars here were the 300C, imported via Fiat Chrysler Australia.
We never got the later Chargers and Challengers (although quite a few people across Oz have imported them).
I personally had a beautiful black (rare) supercharged 6.4 litre 300C, that was tragically destroyed (along with absolutely everything else I owned, including my house) in the Port Macquarie NSW flood of March 2021.
Unfortunately it was eventually hauled away to Brisbane, to be scrapped for parts.

Just looked up RAM sales in Australia for 2021.
Sold 3819 in a market of 1,050,000 vehicles sold.
    So 0,36% of new cars.
Placed 68 , so 67 other make and models outsold it.
But the Mustang only got to 91.,
No Chevrolet Corvette or Silverado in the top 100.
Big growth in the Chinese made MG that got to number 10 after being unheard of a few years ago.
Toyota Hilux number one then Ford Ranger not too far behind.
Chrysler 300C off the market I think.
Might be interesting for you to search for the top 100 cars sold in Australia for 2021.

RAM trucks and Silverados are in Australia but they are expensive because GM and Chrysler don't make them in Right Hand Drive so they get shipped here as stock left hand drives and then we have a process to convert them properly like factory. So for example your average $40,000 RAM truck could be nearly $110K here after conversion. I can buy 2 Hiluxes for that.

Sorry for the timestamp and rambling stuff but man...
2:30 Yep, Ian. We had/have the 300/Cs and the Chargers. Had a drag racing acquaintance in a city I lived in who owned a tweaked 300C with the 5.7 litre. It was all Black and in Chrysler 300C terms, it was a sleeper. For context, he owned and ran a Top Fuel drag racing team with a full workshop. The car got the treatment. His car made me want a big 300C. I still want one 16-odd years later.
2:47 I'm commenting as I go, so there may be more further on, but that Pink Dodge reminds me of a '58(?) Plymouth Hardtop that someone offered to sell me for 700 bucks in 1977 when I was a young car nut of fourteen. It was a 318 with a push-button auto on the dash. Not inlet manifold and it had been sitting with no bonnet/hood for many years. Anyway, I raced home on my pushbike/dragster the five kilometres/3 miles home and proceeded to beg and plead with my dad to loan me the money. I raved and raved about the thing and he said no. I was gutted.
3:20 I had a Fawn '74, 245 Charger for a few months in 1983 before I near killed myself in it. That's way too long a tale to tell here...lolz
3:33 I bought one of these, a VG, for 300 bucks in 1993 from a bloke. I drove it home and started to work on it from front to back. I stripped out the flooring and it was pristine. In fact, from the front to the back of the rear quarter panels was pristine...the rear quarter panels had been stuffed with chicken wire and bog. The entire rear bottom 18 inches of the car was bog, wire and prayers under a so so paint job. He used to back it into the river with his boat trailer...
9:03 I love the Australian Ford coupes (XA/B/C) from that era but I too feel the Chargers had their own style that just said 'Muscle Car'.
9:23 I think that's a 'Chrysler by Chrysler', the luxury model that Chrysler/Valiant released over here in the 70s. I had one of these in 2004 that just needed paint and a new electric fuel pump before it was ready to roll. Worked 360, 727 Torqueflyte(?), LSD. Then someone decided to put a wallaby carcass in the back seat (we lived in the bush) to keep it from the dogs overnight and then forgot to tell anyone. I found it four weeks later...I sold the drivetrain for 1500 bucks on the condition that they took the entire vehicle away on purchase.
I've had a few more Valiant/Chryslers but this comment may not even make it. It is a bit long.

My dad has both my grandpa's 1953 Chrysler New Yorker with the original "Hemi" (when it was still called the "Firepower V8") and also a 1965 Chrysler Imperial Le Baron (with the 413ci "small" big block) that the president of Chrysler Canada would get Chauffeured around at the Windsor assembly plant and Chrysler Canada Headquarters downtown stationed downtown on the riverfront!

This may have been mentioned earlier but Ram and Chevy trucks are becoming more common as there is no more vehicle manufacturing in Australia anymore. But you have to have deep pockets to own one as they go for $85-100K plus! Love your content mate. Curious at to your interest in all things Aussie??? Cheers bloke!

Not where I grew up. Southern NSW farmers bought them in the tens of thousands. Towards the end of the 70's, it was common for them to trade them in on the then just released XD Falcon and ZJ Fairlane. These days if they're still alive, they're probably running Hilux's and LandCruisers. Out there, nobody cared if they were 'cool' or not. What counted was that they suited those conditions.

Ram and Silverado are sold here new. But outsold by about one hundred more popular cars.
The $100,000 starting price puts them out of reach to most. Not much US right hand drive production, mustang and new Corvette only I believe, means these trucks need to be converted here adding to the expense
Ford in the news here talking about the F series making a comeback. I expect a huge price. Even Ford's only big seller here, the Ranger, is getting very expensive with the new models.

As you know Ian , I'm a Ford nut but I do love the Charger ...When I was still playing cricket one of my team mates had a red V8 Charger.. It was stunning .. It was red but I was green with envy .. On red Ford's most famous red was /is called Vermillion Fire ... Another one of my Ford favourites is Wild Violet . Not up with Chrysler/Dodge colours but some of these in the vid are great .. The Valiants were a hugely popular car here and are extremely sought after now. Great reaction video again and Iron Empire is also a top channel and features cars from Mopars to Holden to Fords ..Thanks so much ..

most older cars are worth a small fortune. It is difficult to find a Valiant charger under $10k. And for that price it will probably be a really bad rust bucket that needs another $15k thrown into it to get it back on the road.
A half decent roadworthy Valiant is probably around $20k+.
However if one is lucky they might find a rare Barn Find that is in good knick and easy to put back on the road.
