This is one of my favourite Alan Menken movements, from the over whelming sadness in the first two minutes to the undulating happiness that runs through the final three. I used to watch Beauty and the Beast on repeat in the 90s when I was small and this brings back so many memories.
1:40 - 3:00 is, hands down, my favorite piece of music of the entire movie (and probably out of all the Disney movies put together). My heart melts every time I watch the transformation scene, mostly because of this song.
This. This captures many feels. To showing great sorrow at the beginning, with reprises throughout the whole piece, to a joyful choir repeated "Tale As Old As Time" at the end. Overall, this brilliant piece by Alan really hits the whole story. And I hope they keep it in the live action, or at least something similar.
It doesn't matter if you're different, it doesn't what anyone thinks.... because the only thing that matters is what's in you're heart and that's all.... that is love.
this song is honestly my most favorite song of ALL time. alan menken composes such gorgeous music... there is no other song that has moved me like this one. i cry every time. when i heard and saw this part in the musical recently (my second time going, my first was when i was 6), i cried so hard and so much you would have thought someone close to me had died, lol. there is just something about this song that nothing else can compare to. i've loved it since i was little and i'll always love it.
I wish the modern Disney movies were like this one. The animation.... the soundtrack..... The plot........ the characters..... Now, they are all CG (computer graphics) and pale in comparison to the old Disney classics. No movie nowadays can be called true Disney. Praise for, Beauty and the Beast, a beautiful Disney classic!
If Alan Menken wrote the score to every film, it would improve them tenfold! The score to this makes it perfect...especially when the Beast is dying.....just untouchable!
That part at 2:34 is one of my favorite moments in the entire sountrack for Beauty and the Beast. It's so powerful and, dare I say, magical. I just love it so much. I get so damn emotional when it comes to this movie's score.
From the first note to about 1:34 has *always* made this movie 'Beauty and the Beast' for me. This was my favorite movie as a child (I'm 23 now), and I can hear every single line in my head. Alan Menken was so good back then. I mean, the song feels so heavy - you know exactly what moment he touches her cheek, and you know exactly when he *dies*. Seriously. Its a gorgeous track. This and Hunchback I can never decide which one has a stronger score. Because both of them are emotional.
I've seen this movie roughly 100 times since it came out when I was a little girl. I still watch it every now and then. It never gets old and its just so darn adorable XD
i think its the music that makes this film especially stunning, I mean, without it the film would still be enchanting but its the music that just makes it that bit more special and sets it apart from other disneys ive always related to belle since i was a little girl in fact now more so than ever! God bless alan menken, this was the soundtrack of my childhood And god bless all the other girls who had belle as their role model!
And obviously, four people gave this down thumbs because they probably suffer visual diseases and weren't wearing their glasses at the moment. I love all Alan Menken's work; brilliant and wondrous song.
One thing to take into consideration, though, is the Beast did want to change and struggled with it at first, but had help from people who wanted him to change his ways and were supportive of him through the process, and he also wanted to truly love her. Whereas Gaston seems set on his ways, and those around him seem to support his ways (and would probably question him or try to 'change him back' if he changed). He also seemed to want Belle as a 'trophy wife' ("That makes her the best!" scene)
Whoever had the great fortune of participating in this recording is very lucky. I love how Menken and Ashman always ended their movies for Disney with the same progression. 5:34 to 5:45 That could just be a Disney staple. Like a signature. I just think it's a beautiful progression! Flat VI to flat VII then to I. haha
This music is so incredibly heartbreaking, but it's so beautiful and triumphant at the same time! :) it takes a genius to create emotion without any words at all
omg, i'm gonna cry, i swear to god, i'm gonna CRY!!! goosebumps, sinking feeling, heartache... oh god... there they are at 1:07... damn this movie is incredible...
Masterpiece. 💘 02:12 to 02:46 Oh my stars! This is absolutely sublime and glorious! Melt my heart! 😭💝 I adore the gorgeous music of Alan Menken. Thank you so much for sharing. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
I feel this scene also represents the end of Howard Ashman's life, and the success of his career. The fall of the last petal signifies his tragic death, but the glorious scene that follows shortly afterward signifies the booming success of the movie and the soundtrack.
for some sick reason I fell in love with the beast, I thought he was so much more charming & beautiful as a beast than a human being haha love is definitely blind This is one of my favourite movies, you can eat the moral cake and keep eat too ;-) long live the Old school Disney movies!!! High School musical & Hannah Montana eat my filthy shorts!
@intelligentignorance Yes, and The Rescuers: Down Under had a little CG in it, too. But what I like about these old Disney movies is that they were MOSTLY done traditionally.
@InvaderZim82muffins Beauty and the Beast is actually the reason behind that. The Little Mermaid was the last movie by Disney to be completely cel-animated, Beauty & the Beast, their next movie, had the ballroom scene and Aladdin had the carpet ride out of the Cave of Wonders (both CGI with cel-animation). Then it became commonplace to mesh more and more CGI with cel until eliminating cel altogether for the most part. But I completely agree with you. The early 90's Disney movies were the best.
This version of the piece (that ended up in the movie) is nice, but I'm partial to the version that was on the very first released soundtrack--with an entirely different melody up until the actual transformation started. (That melody's on the special edition soundtrack under "Death Of The Beast--Alternate.")
I have a boxed set, the music behind the magic. The track you're talking about is featured. In the text, they said they decided not to go with that version because it was too dramatic. But I rather like it, too.
This is one of my favourite Alan Menken movements, from the over whelming sadness in the first two minutes to the undulating happiness that runs through the final three. I used to watch Beauty and the Beast on repeat in the 90s when I was small and this brings back so many memories.
When the music swells at the end and the Disney Chorus comes in I just die. So beautiful!
JoLynne Minnick Right ! So amazing! Just want to cry at this moment!
So me!!!!!
my lovely bride walked down to this song.. I remember tearing up.. weddings are so precious.
Possibly my favorite instrumental segment of all time. The soundtrack transcended the movie for which it was made.

One of Alan Menken's finest pieces in my opinion. So rich, tragic, romantic and powerful! I just love it!
I always cry when the beast dies even though I know he is gonna wake up. That part is just so touching.
Alan Menken is a musical genius. What a musical gifted ear he has. Such a legend(:
Thank you! Incredible how many Disney-fans don't realise how good it is.
It doesn't matter if you're different, it doesn't what anyone thinks.... because the only thing that matters is what's in you're heart and that's all.... that is love.

Adam: Belle, It's me.
Belle: (Sees that he has same blue eyes as Beast) It is you
My favorite part of the entire segment. And it pains to watch the live action version because that's the one thing they left out. 😭😭😭
If Alan Menken wrote the score to every film, it would improve them tenfold! The score to this makes it perfect...especially when the Beast is dying.....just untouchable!

I usually don't go for music like this, but the instruments make this sound very lovely.
Michelle Phan is amazing. So is this music...very romantic! Beauty and the Beast was a wonderful movie. I had forgotten all about this theme music.
Such beautiful music i love it
One of my favorite pieces of music. So much emotion in just a few moments. It's so moving!
i get a chill down my back near the end. only because it's such a beautiful piece
When this scene is so ingrained in your mind that your memory adds all the spoken lines and sound effects, completing it in your head...
Alan Menken and Howard Ashman are genious!!!!!
Howard Ashman and Alan Menken sure were a great team!
watched it with my gf and my little brother yesterday, after i don't know how many years. i started crying and my brother handed me tissues.
One thing to take into consideration, though, is the Beast did want to change and struggled with it at first, but had help from people who wanted him to change his ways and were supportive of him through the process, and he also wanted to truly love her.

That could just be a Disney staple. Like a signature. I just think it's a beautiful progression! Flat VI to flat VII then to I. haha
i noticed that the movie really focuses on the change of the beast's personality throughout the whole movie =o
I miss those days when I viewed the world as a fairy tale. Then I got a dose of reality.
This music is so incredibly heartbreaking, but it's so beautiful and triumphant at the same time! :) it takes a genius to create emotion without any words at all
When Belle confesses her love to the Beast when it was too late, I start bawling my eyes out. This is seriously one of the greatest movies of all time
You're not the only one. I love 'em both, but you can't help but have a thing for the Beast... cuz he's awesome.
3:33 to 3:49 My favorite part. Makes me think of victory, people cheering, and fireworks! HURRAY!!!!!
Prince Adam: Belle... It's me!
(Belle stares at his eyes for a minute)
Belle: It is you.
(they kiss)
Alen Menken is a musical genius...but those words don't seem to do him justice. This music gives me shivers, makes me cry and happy all in one 🥰🥵
goosebumps.. my favourite disney cartoon, it's not just a cartoon :)
this music never gets old :) this movie will always be part of my childhood
One of the best Disney scores I've known since I was a child.
I had goosebumps every second. Disney songs are absolutely beautiful
So powerful, always brings a tear to the eye
omg, i'm gonna cry, i swear to god, i'm gonna CRY!!! goosebumps, sinking feeling, heartache... oh god... there they are at 1:07... damn this movie is incredible...
This probably has to be my favorite disney movie.
Masterpiece. 💘 02:12 to 02:46 Oh my stars! This is absolutely sublime and glorious! Melt my heart! 😭💝 I adore the gorgeous music of Alan Menken. Thank you so much for sharing. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️

The best Disney movie ever
One of the best soundtracks of this movie!

2.33-2.47 was always my favorite bit. It's so powerful and strong
Majestic.. Simply majestic..
It STILL gives me chills. Love it!
"At least I got to see you...one...last...time."

I bet the orchestra was crying when they played this score.this is flawless music and it alone makes me cry.
I had this music stuck in my head all morning during my 4-hour-exam... It sure felt good!
So.. who else starts crying?
I'll admit ... I'm one of them.
I love it so much. I want to be a kid again!
I've just burst into tears and it happens almost every time 😅

from1:35 to 2:56 is my absolute favorite part. I have never heard something so beautiful before!! :)) The french horns sound heavenly! :D :D
I immediately got the chills.. :)
I love Beauty and The Beast!! :))
I feel this scene also represents the end of Howard Ashman's life, and the success of his career. The fall of the last petal signifies his tragic death, but the glorious scene that follows shortly afterward signifies the booming success of the movie and the soundtrack.
I LOVE this score!!!! It's so beautiful.....
i've remembered from my childhood times,i was 6 at the time beauty and the beast was popular^^ of course in my country too-Brazil
This is the pinnacle of film music, I think.
5:06 on - Absolute chills. Music + final shot of stained glass window = Double chills!
Good chills, though.
How people can dislike this song ?!
It is my favourite movie !
i miss this kind of disney they had art and music that you dont just see and here you can feel it too
2:33 oh my god...
for some sick reason I fell in love with the beast, I thought he was so much more charming & beautiful as a beast than a human being haha
love is definitely blind
This is one of my favourite movies, you can eat the moral cake and keep eat too
;-)
long live the Old school Disney movies!!!
High School musical & Hannah Montana eat my filthy shorts!
This is my favorite piece off of the Beauty and the Beast score. :) Although the deleted track "Death of the Beast" is beautiful too.
If this isn't track in the live action film I'm gonna cry (should be because Alan Menken is doing the score like he did for the this film)
It will be, for sure. :D
Track made it but parts were cut :(
Shannon Gold They cut some of the best parts too. :(
holy crap alan menken
real tears
this song makes me cry all the time it is so beautiful i hope to have this song at my wedding one day.
"Atleast I got to see you... One last time..."

4:55 - "Do I still have to sleep in the cupboard?" :D
One of my favorite scenes in this movie. Amazing. *sighs* :) I could listen to this forever.
agwoodliffe, I agree 100% :)
@intelligentignorance Yes, and The Rescuers: Down Under had a little CG in it, too. But what I like about these old Disney movies is that they were MOSTLY done traditionally.
@FreddyClown123 They won an oscar for this soundtrack :)
timeless.
...magnifica!!
Yes I think so to, The best Disney movie ever and my absolut favorit, the music is just superb in it as well
I want to walk down the aisle to this music. ♥
I have gooseflesh!

But I completely agree with you. The early 90's Disney movies were the best.
2:30 is one of the most epic moments in music.
Oh, how I wish they'd make a full version of the choir song at the end!! That's my favorite of all the versions!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Who would dislike this Score.... its the best Disney’s Soundtrack. Those people need to get a life coz i feel bad for them
"You came back." "Of course I came back."
disney movies have some of the most beautiful music....
EASILY the most romantic scene ever. In my opinion ^_^

One of my favorite BGM for studying🥰
