Three missing people from one of the countries biggest cities; could they all be tied to one beautiful lake?
Carmen Mares, Harry Eckert, and Mary Richard all disappeared from San Antonio, spanning over several decades. After being denied access to our first two search locations, we were pointed in the direction of Canyon Lake because of its easy access and deep blue waters.
Searching the shore lines and boat ramps, we stumbled upon two local scuba diving training sites. All of these vehicles and boats were confirmed by local dive shops and a member of the search and rescue team.
We continued past the training sites and discovered a mysterious, unmarked vehicle far from the training sites. We dove on the vehicle, trying to decipher the mystery of its identity and the owner. However, once we turned the vehicle in, we felt shunned at their response and heard nothing more that came of the Chevy SUV. Shop the Store:

Scuba standard is to never dive without a partner...kinda drove me bonkers when that no disgraced channel would consistently send someone down alone
@TheSteelheadStation- we often dive alone in this job. In our case, it is not always possible to dive with two people, as it is usually just Lindsay and I.

I've lived by Turkey Cove for 30 years... from my experience, Law Enforcement here does not care.
I totally agree. Lived there in 1979 and on and off for years. The authorities used to be great. But not now.

Just a little history of canyon lake. There were two towns before they made it a lake. Hancock and Canyon City used to be a dot on the maps. So happy to see y'all out in our lake.
Awesome dive, you two!!!! It looked amazingly clear down there for a good dive on that car. Wow, those barnacles took over that entire vehicle!!! I wonder if other divers in the past also reported this vehicle and that's why the LEO's weren't interested. I guess we will never know. Thank you for searching for those 3 people!

Canyon lake is a really popular scuba diving lake. My mom (at 70!!) did her Open Water checkoffs in Canyon Lake. Then we went and dived with the Manta Rays in Hawaii a couple months later.
New Braunfels (BRON-fells) is a bit north of San Antonio. There is a really nice river there that comes out of the ground year round at 72°F- the Comal River. That’s where I did my OW checkoffs, in November, since it was a bit chilly up in Michigan. Good times!

Qq: 1) Jacob: I have watched many video's of pulling plates from cars underwater... my question is, how come most plates underwater come up like paper and fall apart? Does water soften them up, and make them brittle?? Does it do something to the metals??

A lot of times the plate crumbling is due to the environment, the water, the marine life. Sometimes, the plates are made more thinly.
I get them done. Not often enough. Lol. They’re my real nails, I just get a hard overlay on them so they stay nice.

Law Enforcement in general is famous for one way information. The smaller the town the better the communications, as they usually know the people involved. Way to go gang! Mark it in memory and move on. All our love from Arizona!

The large tires in the marina could be used as a breakwater to protect the boats from storm surges and waves and also to control how they traverse the area without hurting the boats.

You really are a fabulous coach and trainer, Jacob. I hope you're continued searching will also bring more opportunities for you to instruct other Divers on how to search for loved ones. There are so many missing just in our country that having 10 or 15 full time teams across the country wouldn't be too much. (& that would free you up to going to Canada and other places to help train them to do the same. The possibilities are endless in helping loved ones finding answers worldwide!)

Boys always have to make a big splash when they go in the water.
Texas is so used to flash floods that carry cars and sometimes houses away that it's not shocking to know there are cars underwater.

Great dive water is super clear disappointed in law enforcement at least they could have had some decency to at least give you some information on the car ,some just couldn’t care less which is sad, that they get paid to do a job and don’t give a damn about the work and time that you all put into doing what you do as long as they are picking up there paycheque seems all that matters to them ,hope you enjoy a break and safe travels love you guys and what you do 👍👌❤️❤️❤️

I have been diving there many times. I know there is a VW Beetle and some other cars in the lake for scuba divers. It’s a good diving lake!
I would mark the vehicle and come back with my fishing poles and fish until they come to pull it.
I grew up here in Canyon Lake. It was a great place to be young. There’s supposed to be a bunch of buildings down there. When they put the dam in flooded a little town.

This lake has some good fishing, too bad you can’t get to it now that the water is so low. Our fishing pier is sitting on dry land and even if you have a boat most the ramps are closed like you said and there’s limited parking at the few that are open. Damn shame. There’s some big stripers in there.

I haven't read through all the comments and I got interrupted during the video, so someone may have already commented on this or I missed it in video, I dove Canyon Lake hundreds of times, there are cars, boats and platforms that have been placed at the bottom of the lake by dive groups to make man made reefs and someing for scuba classes to go look at well over 30 years ago. In Comal countys sheriff's defense they know those cars are down there and may have thought it was a joke.

It really just depends on the vehicle. On the trunk or tailgate is usually a safe bet. Also, rims sometimes have emblems on them.
Would you ever be able to see a car on your Garmin or Humminbird in thick grass like that?
It’s difficult, but we can with the LiveScope. You can get under the thing grass top.
@@ChaosDivers oh ok! Thanks for the quick response. Y’all are soo good about that. I wasn’t sure if the grass would always 100% hide a vehicle so it couldn’t be seen at all on a Sonar. So that’s great that at least LiveScope works for that!

I would love to help you guys brainstorm such a camera harness.
Like a light wieght backpack that maybe clamps omto your air tank?
Or is secured in place alongside your airtank?

Btw, we have catfish here the size of this car.
And some that get stuck inside of cars.
It wasn't until Jeremy Wade unvieled the killer catfish in South Africa that I realized such a fish might have a desire to kill humans.
Though the 3 pounders are sure fun the catch with a rod & reel.
