That 1st fish looked like either a bonita or false albacore. I have a 5/6wt setup I've had a while, and I have a nice 3/4wt rod (getting a reel for Christmas), but I'm thinking about a 7/8wt setup for big bass and saltwater. I'm sure tossing around a hearing, finger mullet, peanut bunker, or spearing pattern should SLAY in South Jersey!
Thank you for the video! Do you think that fly fishing from shore on huge lakes, like the Great lakes, or Saint Laurence River would use a similar set up? I know they are not a marine systems, but they still have waves, high wind, and you need to be able to get your line far out there. Any recommendations in terms of rod length and weight. I'm interested in catching pike and bass. Thanks again, and great video!
It would have been nice if you showed us the pictures of these "baby jacks" that you were catching, as you did the Spanish Mackerel, mangrove snappers and ladyfish. Since they were numerous, all the same size and in relatively close, I suspect that they were blue runners aka hardtails. At any rate, an enjoyable video
That looks like an epic morning on the water - great multi species day. I hope to get into some this week in NC. Keep up the good work Road Angler. I just subscribed!
Saltwater fly fishing is so much fun, i have completely fallen in love with it
Spanish on the fly from the beach?! SWEET!!!
I have had a blast fly fishing the Gulf. May I recommend that you try to keep the fish in the water and out of the sand?

2:20 That's a Spanish Mackerel.
Great video man; only rec is you should use a stripping basket to avoid getting tangled up in your fly line or having it get cut by seashells.
+Nick Migliore I agree I have not used one yet!
Nice video man! I have the same redington reel. That first fish was called a Spanish mackerel btw 🤙
That was a good first session for fly fishing the FL surf.
John Madert hah thanks ya I think I got lucky that day. Really wanna get on a snook soon
The sounds in this video are like asmr
The fly rod was handled like a pro
The first fish caught looks like a Wild Brook Trout .
That first one Spanish mackerel 🐟 bro 😎
Lady fish fight like hell. I'd love to get one on the fly.
Charsept yup! I thought it was a Tarpon
Show us the lure you using please..
A clouser, half and half, or an epoxy head like a surf candy all work.
Awesome video!
Correct me if im wrong, but thats a bohemoth redington reel, my personal favorite
Brdy Wlkr it’s not a bohemoth but it is a redington reel!

Shooting heads like the rio outbound short and mono running line get the job done on my nor cal beaches
So when you got back home, you told your buddies you caught jack, they thought you got skunked? 😉

Mo Pledger yes I believe they were blue runners
Maybe try utilizing the loop feature on your GoPro. You’ll never miss another bite.

HurdFishing thanks man! Hoping to get on some snook at the beach soon!

Thanks man! It was a great day
What flies were you using?
Quite the spot! I subbed keep it up!!
Has anybody ever told you bear a very strong resemblance to Kyle from last man standing
LoL
Curtis Ruth yes I think so lol
Redington Behemoth? Has the drag stayed good on those? I know they aren't sealed so I didn't think they'd last in saltwater.
Charsept yeah I believe it is. It’s a saltwater version 9w
They do. Just make sure to take apart and clean after every use
What some don't realize before sealed drags fresh water cleaning for years
At about the 9:40 mark, yes, that most certainly is, a Lady Fish. They make good bait, for snook and sharks, but you would NOT want to eat one.
What weight rod do u recommend for like the delaware inlet and surf fishing on the beaches
9/10 weight
How far out where you casting?
nice video but what fly were you using and what weight is your road
Josh Orio thanks man. I used a couple of different bait flies on a 8wt rod & reel
Road Angler TV ok thank you very much
What weight fly rod?
What size rod you using and tackle?
Killer Fuzz 8wt link is in the description
Did you see the fish or were you just casting in the surf?
Tanner Brugh looking for blowups. Whenever I would see one I would throw the fly near it and 90% of the time they would hit it.
That first fish in the video is a spanish mackerel. The size you caught that fish is about average
Which fly line do you use for this?
give us a second part :)
+Ridan Andreev definitely will! Too. Ugh sea weed right now
What flys were you throwing
Lucian Flanagan-Burt little bait fish streamers
First fish was a Spanish mackerel
hook size #10 ?
What time of year was this?
Gulf of Mexico? Seems awfully calm
South Florida East Coast fairly rare conditions
First fish was a sea trout. Not a mackerel. A big trout tho and some awesome other catches!
That was definitely a mackerel
The first was a Spanish mackerel... and the last was a ladyfish.
It was a spanish all the way.
