What's the difference between the UK and the US version
Well what I am having a hard time explaining, I guess because I’m having a hard time grasping it my adult self is, if the new moon is when the moon is between the earth and the sun, and it’s totally unlit, then wouldn’t it be only “out” in the daytime? If the sun is behind the moon from earths POV, the sun would be lighting up the side of the earth facing the moon every time. So the moon would only be out the daytime.
I know that’s not right because I see the dark circle of the new moon in the night sky. What am I missing?

Ema - Marie Aquilina Solar means something like "concerning the sun". A solar eclipse occurs when you can't or almost can't see the sun. A lunar eclipse is when you can't see the moon

I'm confused, how can we see new moon at night?
The short answer of it is that you cannot see a new moon at night. A new moon is not in the sky at night! It rises with the sun and sets with the sun. The closest you can get to "seeing" a new moon is a "waxing crescent" right after the sun sets, or a "waning crescent" right before the sun rises.
