Had a 560 on demo for 3 weeks, O/D took a lot of getting use too as you think it's always struggling but proformas over my next gen 500 was night and day. 560 was awesome and a mile to the gallon better and that's in Devon and Cornwall most of the time. Best truck I've ever driven.
I’m currently waiting for my new R650 to arrive was put on a boat from Sweden last week heading to New Zealand will take around 6 weeks then we will put it to work pulling a 6 axel btrain Curtian sider on a 54t permit. Currently running a 2017 r620 with 1.1 million km on it. Love your videos
What are the weight limits in New Zealand? Is a b train like a rigid and tandem in Europe or is it double articulated? What is the weight per axle laws in New Zealand? In the UK it’s 44t on 6 axles.
The engine is available on navistar units like the LT models here in the USA. Our shop is already seeing them new. My company is a leasing company so we get to see all the new stuff introduced into the market.
I recently priced one of these and the issue i came up against was the price, the 560 super came in practically the same price as a 590V8, now obviously the fuel return is going to be better on the 560 but on the flip side the V8 will have better resale, we ended up going for a 660 as they seem to be the most economical V8 on offer. Personally i think your better just going for a normal 6 cyl for example a 500S or go for a bigger V8, for the price i can't see the value in it over a standard 6cyl or a V8.
ye the lugging sound but it's not shaking, is it. u know it's a super hit top torque@900 rpms. wat u do, just gonna have to get alone with these sexy baes. great videos stavros.
Awesome roadtest. Very impressed with the demo of the over drive box. I can see other manufacturers following the same idea. Must be very good on fuel. 👍👍👍
It is. When cruising @80km/h on level surface the consumption is just over 10l/100km (without load on a 6x2 rigid) and the revs are below 1000rpm. On my 420P the consumption is over 3l/100 less than on the older P410's and P450's. 👀
Tad old of a video, but I'm pretty sure the humming noise is either due to minor drone or the increased engine load from running at lower revs. Low revs are good though if it stays at peak torque. Engines are most efficient at peak torque and medium-high engine load, so it should turn more of the fuel into power and not heat when cruising at a constant speed. It shouldn't change engine longevity, if anything it would increase it, since you still have sufficient oil pressure to form a proper film on the journals so it's just a nice to have for lower consumption. Given the V8's have a similar torque curve now I'd expect them to start offering similar, if not the same gearing in them too. No real point in not offering that. Only a matter of time until those lose the individual heads in favour of a DOHC design like these 13L engines, but that'd only make those V8's better, probably improving the torque figure more making the 530 end of the range make more sense. I doubt they'll get rid of them entirely though as it's such a big part of their brand image and they'll likely keep them until they're all forced to be electric via regulations.
Ours V-8 SCANIA TURBO DIESEL drives nice and is used on transcontinental long distance runs of several weeks. Better than 6 cilinder capacity engines ! May the best win ! For sure it,s the V-8 ! Keep driving savely. Greetings from Holland / the Netherlands.😊❤
Hi,Stavros.Nice video! You're exactly right about the airbags in the front, because they give that floating fill like a boat😁In the States not many trucks come with them on a steering axle.About the OD noise I think it's just the very low rpm and you're almost at the point lugging the engine wich is not very good in a long term.
Your idle is around 500 or 550 rpm most of the time, so 950 is alright, and the OD gear is meant for high speeds on flat highways, so its not going to damage anything, because its not really labouring
The 16 liter V8 rated at 530hp will runs with way way less internal stress than 13 liter. Less hp per liter and per cylinder. So the V8 has more longevity, if a company wants to explore a full truck life span
Hello mate . Thank you, one more time, for your video .Such a shame you didn't test it with a full load , may be you could told us if you REALLY feel the difference with your v8 .I heard that fuel results are really very good with that engine ....but if you give the choice between this one and the 530 v8 I ' ll choose the v8 ! Why ? just turn the key and you got the answer 😅😅😅😅 Greatings from Brittany.
Hi Stavros matey it's mark from Wirral Merseyside great UA-cam video by the way that new Scania Ng 580s super nice looking truck and colour is ok really, the engine's straight six would be great for every day loads but for anything heavier than every day loads i think that you would be better with the V8 for the extra torque from the engine and gearbox really👍 thanks for the UA-cam video Stavros matey it's very much appreciated 👍👍 thanks from mark from the Wirral Merseyside 👍👍
Could you do a vlog on a day in the life of a owner driver what's needed to start your own business the expenses the rewards and ways of finding work could be interesting to some people As far as the Scania goes the DAF XG+ has a better cab would be a smarter choice
Yay stavros. Good to see you've finally found a back bone, and are starting to say you don't like certain things, on trucks now! Well done man! When you going to do a review of Peter falvey's volvo FH12, "THE BIG COOL" a real man of the woods!
Might be a silly question but is there a minimum amount of power you’d recommend for someone buying a truck to operate themselves? Ik trucks like the R450 are the bread and butter of large fleets but as a “Haulier” what would you say is a good amount of power to confidently take on a variety of jobs?
I don't think you can get manual gearbox anymore on several scania motors, especially the 13-litre super lineup. And as for power mode, they're just changes how the Opticruise behave. On power mode it's stretches the rev, on eco mode it's shift on lower rev at max torque band. So manual with different power mode seems useless since the their function tied to the Opticruise gearbox.
Last 3 years or maybe 4 or 5 years i commented on your video that i hope there will be scania here in the Philippines and now like wow there it was the BJ mercantile bring it here. they operated here as far as i remember 3 years now, they distributed the G series and P series also the EUDM Scania i think and also the Scania buses we have now here the scania touring and Scania Marcopolo 1025. Like wow what i manifested hehe 😅
Choosing a V8 over a i6 Scania is like choosing a new Peterbilt 389 over a 579. Yes the "V8" Scania and the "389" Peterbilt use more fuel but there just way more badass and cooler and personally is worth the little extra you'll pay in fuel.
Thanks for this video Stavros. I'm getting one of these in September on a tag lift rated at 65tons. What did you think to the new retarder system on the Super?
glad how you always show us different angles man. I am also a content creator from zambia and iam always inspired by your videos. Send me some of your go pro cameras that you dont use if you have please.

The engine brake in these are the best thing ever fitted in a modern truck. And the air ride you are correct. They do not feel good on a winding road.
I love the sound of 6 cylinder trucks, and straight 6 cars.
They need to bring these to the US. I'd be stoked

Another interesting video Stavros. I can't understand why Scania make so many different engine sizes. The colour of that 560s is quite nice.
I guess different configurations for different applications! But basically the same engine block!
Awesome roadtest. Very impressed with the demo of the over drive box.

The point is that the v8 doesn’t have more torque but more kW. And kW is not important when hauling. Torque is.
Enjoyed the video chap..
nice truck stavros
Gotta say yer footage is fantastic.
Still like the sound of Scania's inline 6 engines. 😁
Hi Stavros! thanks for the review. I be waiting for your opportunity to review the EV truck from volvo.
Any idea if they supply those night locks as an aftermarket part? Mine doesn’t have them but they look very handy.

Cad you do a vid on the Actros 1842 you have
why not just get it with the batteries on the back insted of the side, u will get more space for the fuel tank
Not permitted in some regions
I don't remember, but I think G25 can handle max 2500Nm and G33 - 3300Nm , that is the reason, why they are not for top power V8s 👍
The weight difference between the 6 cylinder and the V8 is 300kg so I'm told, which is more food for thought, especially with the larger cab.
will 300kg make a difference on a truck hauling 16-20t?
used to be atleast 1.5t of difference
@@angrysocialjusticewarriorand if you're handling only 16 to 20 tonnes why the hell do you need greater than 500hp?

Hi.. I'm a fan from Philippines.. I want to be a truck driver in your country..
Does anyone know if you will still keep the power and economy modes IF you decide to get a manual gearbox?

Whats the point of OD mode if it only applies at 90kph. That exceeds speed limits in most of the Europe?
You don't need to drive at 90 kph in order to OD to engage. Even at 80 kph the gearbox would engange OD if the condition allows.
