    Great video! Super helpful info here. I always dive into the settings whenever I'm reinstalling or working on a fresh piece of software. Ive noticed that everyone has their own way of setting things up, so it's good to understand everything under the hood.
    A couple of notes for Ableton users - Managing your files and "Collect All and Save" are session specific, so make sure you do this for each project. You can also access "Collect All and Save directly from the File menu.
    Second, if you are producing in Ableton, be careful with having "Fade Clip edges" on - sometimes this can cut the tansients off of the tops of some samples causing a lack of punch and attack. Since those fades are so small, they can be easy to miss!

      Amazing; thanks for the clarifications on this! I haven't used Ableton since 2014!! I just figured it was worth sharing more of my advice across platforms so people don't feel in the lurch because I'm in ProTools;
      Great clarifications;

    In Ableton, you can set default audio channels, so it loads with whatever plugs you want on it anytime you populate a new channel. Same for midi channels.

      @@panorama_mastering you'll need to right-click on the track and then choose the lowest menu item "save as default audio track". same one goes for midi as well, I have the stock rhodes sound as my default midi track, so I can hear what's going on. it even works with third party plugins, if you're keen on using a certain plugin all the time. pretty useful with controllers such as komplete kontrol by native instruments, that requires you to open their kontrol plugin for each track.

    In Bitwig it makes a huge difference to set CTRL+S not to save but to collect-and-save instead, because then it always makes sure that copying the project works fine, which could become useful if you need to spontanously transfer a project to another machine, or just for making backups

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  Рік тому +1

      Smart move! I haven't used bit-wig; but I can't count the amount of times producers who haven't collected all and saved their projects whilst they've been scrapping together samples from their downloads folders have lost project data of clients ahead of sending it to me for mixing... **Facepalm**

      @Panorama Mixing & Mastering lmao I meant "restoring", it's dinner time and my auto-correct is hungry
      Essentially bringing back some life to overcompressed mixed and production which might have been using over processed samples with barely any transients left.

    To all Studio One users I would recommend assigning your favorite I-use-it-every-mix plugins to keyboard shortcuts with macros. This, honestly, made me consider switching to this DAW from Pro Tools

      Cubase (or nuendo) is not to be sniffed at for things like keyboard shortcuts. It also has a logical editor, where you can program complex processes at the click of a button. For example, you want to take all the midi within the selected area, and change the key then pitch it down an octave, you can program logical editor to do that at the click of a button. Or to take every audio sample in the project and normalise it to -10dbfs and remove any silence from each end leaving just 1 second or whatever, you could program that too. It's basically any combination of functions you could do manually, you can make essentially a macro for it in logical editor, and if you find yourself doing the same tasks over and over, have it at the click of a keyboard shortcut. It can really save some time if utilised to it's fullest.
      Pro tools and Cubase both have similar normal workflows too, so I couldn't see the transition being too difficult either.

    In logic: Love i:o labels, helps alot naming the buses/auxes so i always know where I'm sending to. It also keeps my sessions looking pretty much the same. Both helps alot when I'm producing in sessions.

    In Logic I always group my plugins by type/category, using the default Plug-in Manager. Save massive amounts of time when choosing a particular effect, synth etc and also lets you see how many of the same type of plugin you own to probably consider culling some

    you have to be careful though with "fades on clip edges" in Ableton. If you use any audio clips with a transient it will sound dull. I usually leave it off because if i forget drum sounds can really sound like they lose life.. If you select multiple clips and then CMD+OPTION+F it will create crossfaces between clips too

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  Рік тому

      Certainly; but if I had $1 for every-time I've had to in mastering RX_DeClick vocals from ableton sessions because they haven't done this i'd probably have $100!

    At 4:41 -> in Ableton, the Save As Default Configuration seems to be doing something else for me, because when I insert the plugin again in another track, the parameter values are not set as the way I saved as default. Any ideas?

    Crossfading in Logic is clunky indeed. You need to go to the right top corner of the main window and find the setting for file Overlaps. Set it to Crossfade and it's done. However, I find any editing and recording in Logic much worse than in Pro Tools for that reason, it's unnecessary complicated compared to PT. You get used to it though

      For the first tip, in FL you can export as looped package. It'll save all audio files in a zip with the project data. FL also has automatic fades, or native delick modes. If you need more screen space, set the library/files panel to auto-hide on the left.
      There are now session folders for projects now since FL 21. Also you can customize fonts & themes in settings.
