    Great video thank you! I’m learning the ropes to self mastering so your focus on some specifics makes it digestible!

    Thank you! could you please elaborate more on 9:28 ? "level match, AB, Listening in mono, listening to the sides to check tones are matching fairly" ??
    Have a great day!

    People that do this using crazy steep slopes as well without realising that if your slope is anymore than about 12db/Oct you're also boosting at the cutoff frequency too.

      Yeap; I think it's a cool way to pay with SHAPING the low-end in some circumstances; but sometimes what digital GUI's show the user isn't actually what's happening to their signal;

    Can you make a video showing the difference in linear phase between the OTT and leapnwing MB comp you talked about? I was a little confused as to how to test this.

  • @peterbondmusic

    all good points. the one about elliptical filters very true. Also re multi band compressors, beyond using ones with non linear crossovers, there is so much bad use of multi band comps out there in mastering, and using them when you don't have to (I'd say they're mainly for correcting poor mixes)...

    Can you explain the low cut issue in more detail? How does it impact phase

    Great video mate, the whack-a-mole analogy was spot on. I've recently stopped throwing high pass filters on everything and now I'm having to fix my low mids. I wonder what will pop up once I improve on that!
    Quick question, how do you think your channel has affected your business? large channels always talk about the importance of social media/youtube because it has worked for them, but we don't really get to hear the experience of smaller channels.

      Thanks Red, appreciate you connecting with the content!
      My business mainly revolves around B2B relationships with full-time producers and engineers, this channel has helped improve my value-add and educating a lot of these clients, and also helping bring new ones into my circle.
      I don't beleive it's the make-or-break crux of my business, but it's a nice side-project which provides unique opportunities.
      When I was in LA a few weeks back, several big mixers recognised me and introduced themselves, as well as a few companies both software and hardware;
      So it's proved interesting to see how this is growing;

      @@panorama_mastering That's really encouraging. Looking back at your previous videos it's clear that you've put in a lot of effort and have been smart about targeting the right people, so I'm glad that it has provided some opportunities.
      just a heads up, the links to your socials are broken in the description.

    I consistently mix bass heavy. The solution for me is to dial in more low end in my monitors to compensate my natural tendencies 🤔

    In my world no one would low-cut a snare at 200-400 Hz. The sub might be removed, but not the low mid of the snare.

      @@panorama_mastering We had recently a self proclaimed EDM-guru announcing that cutting the high of the master can give a "perfect master". I am taught that high cut shall be done track by track, bus by bus due to a need. I must admit that I have talked about the EDM-scene for long now, that there are many talking nonsense there who are not real audio pros.

    with oversampling on clippers during mastering, i tend to use zero oversampling so I can effectively shave off transients 100% at the hard clip ceiling so my limiter won’t be working as hard. when i use oversampling, i find that the amplitude of the signal goes past the ceiling. is there a way i can use oversampling without anything going past the hard clip ceiling?
    (im using StandardCLIP!)

    • @bigboss-qv7pe

      on inserts i use 2 clippers (2nd one has no oversampling), on master you can have limiter with oversampling after your clipper.
