- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- We got ourself a 2017 Sea Doo GTI SE130 rental jet ski that spent the last 2 years in salt water. In Part I we tackle the hull that was covered in algae, encrusting sponges and barnacles, and then clean up the pump and venturi.

Love how you guys give the ski a second live!
Thanks!
What did you pay for it and how many hours did it have on it?
It had almost 900 hours on it. I can’t divulge how much we paid, it was a fraction of the original cost.
Hi guys, i would like to say thank you for all the seadoo videos posted. Specially the engine rebuilt one, the pump rebuilt etc. I just finished my winter project rebuilt a rxt x 260 from a supercharger failure and the ski is running aewsome! im not a mechanic, well i guess now i am lol. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FROM QUEBEC!!!
Well done, Rodrigo! You’re welcome. Glad we could help out!
Great project, can't wait for more videos!! I am surprised the pump cleaned up as well as it did. With your skills, I am sure you can get great deals on fixer-uppers!!
Nice! A fixer upper! Can’t wait for all the vids. I imagine with the closed loop cooling the engine might be in good shape.
Thanks. Stay tuned to find out!
Closed loop does not apply to the entire engine. The exhaust water box on Seadoos still draws fresh water. That is a nightmare waiting to unfold.
@@ClubMayview that is what I am waiting to see as well...
You've earned a subscriber here, looks like we have pretty similar projects. Had a Kawasaki that sat in fresh water for about 3 or 4 years, all of the gelcoat has taken on water in spots like yours much resembling a golf ball after I got the mass of zebra mussels off. I will be following this project closely! Thanks!
Thanks, Cody. Good luck with your project.
I am really surprised the pump cleaned up that well. Great work guys!
Thanks!
It's easy to see that you really love what you do. This is one of the most important things in the life.
Ain't it the truth! Thanks for your comment.
Now it’s for sale. Only rode In Salt water once.
This is gonna be an awesome few videos cant wait!
Thanks!
To remove mussels, 140 F water hot power wash. That is how the local regulatory agencies remove them when they are found during an inspection. Only use 120F in the bilge if you have an electric bilge pump. That was the consensus between ABYC and the manufacturers.....great project!
Thanks for the tip, Galileo. How do you get 140°F water through a pressure washer?
That is a miracle seeing a seadoo stay a float for 2 years
You must be a Yammie rider.
@@3ftDeepChannel nope I’m a seadoo owner lol!!
Look at my channel I’m riding a seadoo, I’ve always owned seadoos and they have all let me down lol, I’ve sunk two and the rest all had defects that left me stranded!!
Having said that, I have just out an order in for a brand new gp1800r svho
This will be my first Yamaha
I’m getting too old to get stranded these days
I wasn't able to find your channel. Please post your link in a reply.
Wow! love your masterful rebuild and reconditioning methods...please keep the videos coming
Thanks!
Can't wait to see the outcome
Really enjoyed this segment. Look forward to next. 👍😀
Can’t thank you enough for posting this 👍✅
Great project! Will stay tuned
Wow 893 hours makes me feel so good about my 2019 gti 130 I did not know they ran that many hours
N/A seadoos are the most reliable due to no supercharger maintenance and issues
… and no intercooler!
Have an 08 rxt 215 no issues it’s super charged
Make sure you rebuild it regularly, as required. Good luck. And thanks for your comment.
@@3ftDeepChannel only 91 hours lol it also had the upgraded bearings in the supercharger
Love to see a project like this from nothing to something..keep em coming guys, great work.
Thanks!
Great job! I’m currently rebuilding a 1995 Polaris slt750 that sat in the barn since 2010! Finished the motor today dropping it in tomorrow!
Thanks for the kind words. Are you posting your work? If you are, please provide a link so we can follow it. Thanks.
The channel just keeps getting better and better!
Thanks!
I love your job.
Awesome project. Can’t wait to see the developments. So rewarding 👍🏻👍🏻😃
Thanks!
Thanks 3ftDeep!!!🙌🏼
Great to see a new project! Ready for more! Tnx.
Excited for this project! Keep up the good work
Thanks, Stephen.
for 900 hours that looks like a decent condition.. esp for a rental. Im not talking about exterior cosmetics just interior
Yes, the engine compartment wasn't bad at all. Stay tuned for the teardown, though!
so what this says is you don't have to bother cleaning your Jet Ski after each dip in the ocean, because when you do finally clean it, it comes up a treat!
Yes, but the video doesn’t show how many hours I put into it! Plus, that salt water works like acid on the jet pump seals. When those go, your pump will fall apart and ruin your whole day. I’m speaking from experience.
"Drive it like a rented jet ski."
My new favorite saying.
Too rough. Way too rough.
Looking great mate!!!
Great video. Thanks.
Nice.
Wow, with 900 hours in 3-4 years, that ski was making some decent coin. Too bad they didn’t pull it out more for some TLC.
Agreed. It was only two years old at the time we got it, though.
You need to try slimy grimy for boat hulls its a godsend!
Thanks for the tip, Chris.
Satisfying 🤩
Nice job already!
Thanks!
Amazing content. Love it.
first time i see 900 hours on dash... wauuu ;D
Dang that’s crazy! How does a rental company not even use a floating dock and let the ski sit underwater for 2 years?
Budgetary constraints, I guess. They took a big depreciation on the machine as a result.
Cool video! Green Genie is the best hull algae/barnacle product I have used thus far. Maybe do a review on that for projects like this? Thanks!
Next time we come across something like this, we'll definitely consider your suggestion. Thanks for your comment.
could you add link to other parts? I always find it a bummer to have to go search through someone's channel for the other parts of a video
If you watch the video to the very end there is a video link provided in the upper left-hand corner. Thanks for your comment, Max.
I am shocked that the pump bearings were in good condition. I have replaced a lot of bearings that were totally thrashed with a less than 1/4 of those hours. Perhaps age is a big factor -- none of the ones I work on are ever this new.
That's a good point. Not sure what the secret sauce was. I wonder if it not being supercharged helped. The acceleration on this machine was definitely more relaxed than I'm used to on my 300 RXP-X.
Would a simple garden hose rinse and flush, say once or twice a week drastically cut down the corrosion. Or is it a losing battle with the jetski being in the salt water regardless?
Rinsing salt water off the metal components of your ski will dramatically reduce corrosion. It is a necessary part of maintenance if you’re going to be riding in salt water. We rinse our engine compartment and hull thoroughly after every ride in salt water. Thanks for your comment.
Toilet bowl cleaner, cheaper the better. The acid will burn aluminum and eat concrete, but it will get all that stuff off the hull.
Thanks for the tip. As some of the components on the machine or aluminum, you would need to be very careful to rinse thoroughly if used.
I would imagine the fact that it is lower power ski is reason for there not being any water in the pump bearings?
It could be part of the reason. Also, it could be a testament to the excellent seal that the double O-rings on the nose cone provides. Thanks for your comment.
You have any issues with pulling that off the driveshaft? Curious if older skis could have issues with removal or reassembly if the motor mounts have worn out and shaft is not completely level anymore. How can I check that when looking to buy used ski?
What, and spoil all the fun? You'll have to stay tuned to find out ...! To answer your question, you can always look at the motor mounts with a bit of extra light, but the drive shaft condition is much more difficult. Usually, you can only tell the true condition of the driveshaft when it's taken out, but you can look for pitting on the exposed areas from under the machine through the intake grate.
@@3ftDeepChannel Look forward to seeing how this project unfolds. As far as reinstalling the jet pump, could worn motor mounts cause issue getting the pump back in the shaft?
It would definitely mess with your alignment, and could cause issues. Bear in mind that the splines need to be lined up, so it can take a bit of fiddling to get the pomp onto the driveshaft. Make sure when you re-install the pump that you clean the driveshaft splines lightly with a wire brush and liberally apply some triple guard grease. Good luck.
Hi there by chance are you guys located in FL ?
Sorry, no. We’re up in Canada.
hi Bro could you please help me to analysis what is the problem of my 2017RXP 300, the Jetski always power off when jumping on the wave. No fault from BUDS software, but wvery time when jump on the wave lead to power off immediately. I m really confused what’s the problem on the Jetski? thank you so much
Sounds like an electrical problem. Probably a bad connector, but could be a problem with your ground. Check all ground connections, especially to the engine and make sure they are sound. Also check the connecter pins to make sure they are all secured in the connector, Especially the ones behind the key post. Good luck.
@@3ftDeepChannel thank you bro
Vapor blasting would do great to remove that corrosion
No doubt about it. We just didn't want to deal with the expense and hassle. Thanks for your comment.
Hey guys fellow WR resident here. Just purchased a 2002 seadoo that needs engine work so your channel is coming in very handy! Where can I purchase SS e torx bolts specifically e8 size. Thought getting these would be the least of my worries but I can't seem to find any that don't cost an arm and leg. Can you point me in the right direction is possible.
Thanks!
Glad we could help. Some of those bolts can be obscenely expensive. For critical bolts we usually get them from the dealer. You can find the part numbers for your machine on Sea-Doo’s website. Other than that, we would go to SBT. Good luck.
@@3ftDeepChannel Thanks!
Can you really expect to get 900 hours out of a gti 130 with good maintenance?
Absolutely!
Is 900 hours a lot, for a Ski Doo?
Thinking of buying a used one, you perhaps have any tips I should look for? I usually go brand new, but I’m willing to go used, if the price and condition are right.
Any advice, would be most appreciated. Well done on the resto!
I think you meant to say Sea-Doo. I know some people have put more hours than that on it, but we've never seen one with more than 400 hours on it. Most people wouldn’t put more than about 20 or 30 hours per year. Certainly 900 hours over two years is a fantastic amount of use. We have a video on how to buy a used PWC, so check that out. Good luck, and thanks for your comment.
@@3ftDeepChannel ski doo lol
from a sea doo with 300hp an RXP how many hours can I do?
If you are willing to take care of your machine and you don’t modify it, you can do many hundreds of hours on it before it needs rebuilding.
Do you know if the motor has ever been touched? Meaning are all 900hrs 100% on the original engine with no rebuilds of any kind? Thx
No work had been done at all on the engine (before we tore into it).
@@3ftDeepChannel Thanks! That’s impressive, gives me POM for my 155
How many hours do you have on your machine?
@@3ftDeepChannel 35
You've got a long time to go before worrying about your machine. Keep up the regular maintenance and you should be fine for many years to come.
Wow, I thought my rental gti had high hours with 600! Is that the original engine?
Yep!
I'm thinking I would buy a used SeaDoo from you!
Thanks. We're sure you wouldn’t be disappointed!
exelent
and then, once you get it out, every time you take it out, its gonna have something new to fix.. just the real reality of having a jetski
Good point, but notice that we haven't actually "fixed" anything ...yet. Thanks for your comment.
My heart is broken😪😪😪
In time, it will heal…😁
How much did you get it for?
Wait till the last in the video series, and take a guess.
Wow thanks for replying! I love all your boating videos my friend! On my guess....did the ski come with trailer or did you already have that?
It didn’t come with the trailer. I already had one. Good luck.
Think of how much money they made even it was $100 an hour that would be $90000 I’m sure they get 3 times that for rental though I’m sure they have to pay a lot for insurance though
You’re absolutely right. I’ve done the estimates a few times, and it always turns out to be a fantastic venture. The other great thing is that the renters are responsible for any damage. Thanks for your comment.
On off cleaner works great never buy another cleaner for barnicles
CRC On & Off?
You know what surprise me? The fact that people manage to sink they're seadoo after 10hrs this is been in water for 2 years and abused like no tomorrow and still floating and working..... So much to think... Seadoo has issue or is operator error?? Hahah
Definitely operator error.
Bonehead boaters of the week!
Junkyard material
No way!
@@3ftDeepChannel I live in Florida and I usually fish 15 to 20 miles offshore there’s no way I’m taking a ski out that far that has 900 hours on it
We wouldn’t have any problem doing that.
@@3ftDeepChannel Well you’re an idiot and you shouldn’t be showing these type of videos because you’re going to take a new Jetskier and sell them one of these junk rental JetSki’s and end up getting themselves hurt or killed because they see you fixing up a junk old beater rental ski and they’re going to do the same thing you live in Ohio or wherever you’re from you don’t live in Miami where there’s 4 to 6 foot seas
Very nic sir .. sir i am surching job for thins field cane you hellp .. plz ...
We are not a dealership that employs people, but I’m sure if you went to your local dealership you might find some work in the shop. Good luck!
Redoing a spx myself same condition. Salt water is pure evil for these things
It’s highly corrosive to metal, that’s for sure. Thanks for your comment. And good luck with your project.
@@3ftDeepChannel same to you
No doubt it's been trashed and sat in water. But no way 2 yrs !! The whole underside would be nothing but barnacles if that was the case. I've seen boats after 3 months where it took weeks of anti fouling, chemical treatments, lots of hand scraping and high pressure washing to remove the barnacles. You couldn't even see the hull in those craft. So I am calling big BS on 2 yrs. That thing is brand new in comparison. It looks more like maybe 2 weeks in water, that's it.
Where do you live? It may be that’s because we live in colder water, it takes longer for organisms to grow. But it was in the water for two years, that’s for sure.
@@3ftDeepChannel ok. Fair enough. That would make sense. It looked more tropical like where I am. I live in Australia. If it was two years here... it would be cheaper to buy a whole new fibreglass hull for the ski!! 😁
Crikey! Your waters are 20°C warmer than ours. You can even swim in yours!
is 900 hours a lot?
Most people put about 20 hours a year on their machines. We had never seen a machine with so many hours on it.
As a rental they probably limit the skis to 40 miles per hour or less so probably little strain on the motor
Don't want to be the only negative comment, but I would prefer no music, even if you only talked a little bit!
We get this comment every once in a while. Surprisingly, not nearly as often as I thought we would. Tell you what, we will start experimenting in a while and see if people like it better. Thanks for your comment.
@@3ftDeepChannel Thanks :) Things like your opinion of how hard a job it is, what condition the parts are etc. Just general chat. Doesn't have to be professionally scripted or anything, in fact the more raw, the better!
We have a number of videos uploaded already waiting in the queue, so give it six months or so and let’s see what we come up with for the new ones. Thanks again for your comment.
i don't even own a jetski
Rent one next time you have the opportunity and see if you like it.
Who ever had this was OOONE NASTY OWNER. Why would you treat your property like this. I had 6 rentals, i had them for 650 hours, when I sold them they looked like coming out the box. This is just nasty. 😫😫😫😫👎👎👎
… And a huge depreciation, too. Thanks for your comment.
Noooo not zebra muscles ewwww
Yes, the infamous, notorious, ultra-annoying, invasive mussel...
Man, you’re playing sad music, like you found a lost puppy or something it’s a piece of metal that sat in salt water and oxidized
Sorry, dude. We are going to have to look for better music.
Foolish purchase.
Keep watching the videos, then see if you still agree.
How much you pay for it with trailer?
It didn't come with a trailer. We paid CDN $4,500 for it.
