That Swiss steak brought back memories! I live in Alabama and we called it cubed steak when I was a kid. It was slow-simmered on the stove top in brown gravy. My mom always made it with rice. It was one of my favorite meals.

I’m from South Carolina, and my Nana made it just like this, right down to the rice. We called it steak and gravy.

We had Swiss steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and mama always made gravy to go with it. So, so good!

Btw, I am really enjoying my new Misen 10” chefs knife and nonstick skillet. Hubby got me them for my birthday. I had requested both of them. I am thinking of also buying a new paring knife. He also got me a sharpening stone. Can’t wait to use it. I have quite a few dull knives that I want to sharpen.

I love to hear your childhood family recipes…I will definitely be making the sausage recipe. I grew up (Chattanooga Tn) with country style steak and gravy but no tomato base. It was with a brown gravy. My memaw made it and it’s a treasured recipe to me now since she passed.

I’m making that sausage and pepper recipe ASAP! We live in Texas and my mom would make Swiss steak a couple of times a year. What stood out to me about her recipe is she used a giant old fashioned pressure cooker for it (it was massive and the only thing she ever used it for was Swiss steak) and everyone would get nervous lol. It always turned out delicious though.

My dad bought an old fashioned pressure cooker off ebay 5 years ago (yet to use it, and I won't lol) He use to have one when I was kid that he used. We were all scared too.

I was fortunate to travel to Israel where I had the best falafel ever! I have tried several recipes as well as the frozen ones and have yet been able to recreate-they were good but not the same! My mom used to make Swiss Steak but not with a tomato sauce. She used Cream of Mushroom Soup and Lipton Onion Soup packet to make the gravy-great memories. Great recipes, thanks for sharing all these delicious ideas.

Your sausage sandwich sounds a lot like what we call cudighi here in Michigan! Ralph's Italian Deli in Ishpeming is our favorite spot to stop for cudighi when we're camping. I tracked down a passable recipe for the sausage online because 8 hours is a long way to drive when you're hungry. 🙃😁

I've never have the falafel, but I do love chick peas. Sounds really good! I need to try out those meal kits. Makes things easier I'm sure. That apple celery slaw looks delicious! I've got to get a dutch oven. Been looking but not sure which to get. I will try to find one like yours. I want that color too! I've also got to get an instant pot. I have a pressure cooker. For some reason 5his video got me to thinking how many families actually sit at the table together for the evening meal? When growing up we Always did that. It was unheard of not to. My son and I do it sometimes. I eat in the den in front of TV and he in his room. Sometimes we eat together at the table but I've already told him I want us to get backbto have the evening meal together at the table starting this New Year!!
One can only try. I really want to do that because it means a lot to me and he agreed. We are Christians and love God and I know that's what He would want. Can you imagine if God was on this Earth and we fixed our plates and headed to different rooms to eat?
