Omg, talk about a trip back in time; I can't stop smiling. I love watching these early clips; takes me back to the day I first discovered who Duran Duran was. That giddy, 10 year-old girl is now in her mid 40s and just as giddy, lol. Thank you so much for posting:)
I recorded this back in the day and watched it a bunch of times. Seeing it again after almost 4 decades I still remembered most of the things they said - crazy! They were the biggest band on MTV at this time. Awesome that they're still creating great music today.
Oh my gosh same ... I can barely remember what I did last week, but I remembered most of this word for word! I must have watched it a hundred times. =)
+10vevideos actually you are incorrect with your assumption. in 1985 I was 14 years old. I was raised on my parents music , I liked it then and still love it now. In the eighties though still a young teenager parents liked all this 80's music. later when I was 21 in 1992. Nirvana changed rock radio. And our parents liked it too. we were the only generation that shared each others music. It was really great. have a nice day.
Lori Reece: Agreed totally. Todays music is absolutely without substance, has lack of talent and emotion and please don't even get me started on 'rap.' Take me back to the 80s and its music anytime. Gotta build myself that time machine.
Awesome seeing this again after all these years! Have always been a huge DD fan, and the fact that they showed Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, and Japan videos during the hour made me love them even more. Andy W. was his usual quiet self, but what a talented artist. The DD guys had excellent taste in music, art, clothes, etc. How could you not like these guys back in the 80s?
I remember taping this, and all my fellow Durrannies on the island forgetting to, so I was a hot commodity ... only paralleled by Billy Idol & his Guest VJ and video selection
This is where I discovered Duran Duran when I was 12. So many good memories of DD on MTV. Their music videos were the best Nothing can compare to those times back then.
I love this it takes me back to those early days of MTV and Duran Duran! I was a teenager and it was so exciting every time they made an appearance or released a new video! I'm a Duranie for life!!
Kitty, thank you for uploading this video of my favorite Band. Duran Duran is the reason I am learning bass guitar right now, THEY MADE A HUGE IMPACT ON ME MUSICALLY. Nick's hair in this video was COOL, VERY NEW WAVISH.
It turns out Duran Duran had the honor of world premiering their own video huh? I wasn’t even into them yet but I have to say they are awesome! They were certainly a staple for MTV. I miss those days!
Oh man I remember when this aired originally... they turned me onto some great music I wouldn’t have gotten to hear living where I did back in the day! Love these guys ❤️
There's a clip out there somewhere of John and Andy guest-VJ'ing on MTV one time. They're both cute but also, unfortunately, completely blitzed on something (booze or cocaine), so it's a little uncomfortable to watch.
Amazing. Just to think of the time that has flown by. They talked about Beat It and Save A Prayer as new videos. Mentioning MJ's work with McCartney and Eddie Van Halen.
Aww, I remember watching this and recording it on VHS. Have a bunch of VHS full of Duran Duran clips somewhere. Big Duranie back then! :) Still love them!
I had a Anthony price dress back in the 80’s cost me £250 back then it was a black shiny dress they also had it in gold I still love Roger Taylor best drummer in my mind 💋💋💋
I guess I would have to have been on coke too, to be a guest MTV VJ (ok speculation, but behavior and eyes can sometimes say it all). I don't think there was a time any D² member was guest VJ's where I didn't feel that was the case (course during those days they had a pretty tight line up). If so... who cares anyway... Right! :) Still my favorite band of all time... and thanks for posting Kitty!
That segment with Andy Warhol was eerily prophetic, with treating Warhol like a ghost when he would pass away only 4 years later, and with the extra emphasis Simon makes in his comment at around 4:26 which would be the title of their latest single some 38 years hence! And by the way... would it have killed you to have left in the "Save a Prayer" video? Just saying.
This is just absolutely precious... Nick is the cutest thing
Oh yes, I agree with you, he's very cute ;-)
Yup
I can only imagine how high the ratings were for MTV when THIS was airing!
I remember watching this the first time it aired. Everyone i knew was watching!
Nick is just too beautiful.
I used to love Simon then Nick really grew on me . He's so gorgeous.
Nick with his hair red, yes. The platinum don't do him any favors.
Lisa...p/mim ele é bonito c/qualquer cor e tipo de cabelo.👍Mas...será q eu o 💖:Careca???🤔

Love how Andy Warhol just decides to pop up in the middle, haha.
I love how he doesn't say a word. he's just this presence.

I cry for today's kids! They have no clue what great music sounds like.
Im fifteen and I love classic music for the 80's and 90's

I am 14 and have been brought up with 80s music , especially Duran Duran.
Lori Reece: Agreed totally. Todays music is absolutely without substance, has lack of talent and emotion and please don't even get me started on 'rap.' Take me back to the 80s and its music anytime. Gotta build myself that time machine.
yeah not like it's uploaded on youtube for all of us "today's kids" to see.

I remember when MTV really was music television. The 80’s were great on MTV.
Duran are like brothers themselves cuz they're close knit! 1983 was their peak year! Also their voices sound sexy!
Nick!!! Pffff BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
I LOVE THIS MAN ❤❤❤❤
Did someone notice that Nick and David Sylvian from Japan looked just like twins in early 80's with similiar faces and same blond hairdos;))
Yep!! Noticed that too...

it’s often said that nick copied david sylvian’s look

It turns out Duran Duran had the honor of world premiering their own video huh? I wasn’t even into them yet but I have to say they are awesome! They were certainly a staple for MTV. I miss those days!

5:45 CHINAAA!!!
I recorded these segments on VHS at 8 years old. I was a huge DD fan as a kid!
lol @ Simon doing the slanted eye thing when saying "VISIONS OF CHINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" @ 5:45
Nowadays Simon would be banned
lol...back in the day when these shows weren't politically correct. Miss those times.
I love them both. You're cute! Love your accent. Thank you.
Adore John that smile 😍😍
There's a clip out there somewhere of John and Andy guest-VJ'ing on MTV one time. They're both cute but also, unfortunately, completely blitzed on something (booze or cocaine), so it's a little uncomfortable to watch.

Nací en 1999, pero puedo comentar que mtv es lo máximo ...
This is incredible!! So much going on in this that would be telling their future! ❤️
mmaaaannnnn i miss 80s MTV...
Good to see that again!
Amazing. Just to think of the time that has flown by. They talked about Beat It and Save A Prayer as new videos. Mentioning MJ's work with McCartney and Eddie Van Halen.
Everyone was so beautiful then.

Can't blame Warhol for taking that many pictures, i would have done the same. :P
Duran Duran!
Incredible New Wave Music on this episode.
I had this recorded on a cassette back in the day.
"A british band called the Eurythmics.. it was... pretty enjoyable"
Wish I was my age 40 yrs ago..
Im amazed that MTV were showing Visions Of China by Japan because the band werent very big in the USA.
Simon and voll cool
old times of mtv.
I wonder what happened to the pictures Andy Warhol took of them?
So cute 2021
😂 AWESOME! FUN and GREAT❤️🤗Times!!! 😎🤙🏻🔉🎵🎶🎵❤️
The guy in the middle of them, Andy Warhol 😂
5:49 lmao if he did that today people would trip
Blitz Of The Reich bro I was just thinking that
How did I miss that??? You are so right he would be drummed out of ASCAP and God knows what other musician oriented thing!!!
Yeah, he better be worried. Their looking for things to cancel and if they see that - all Duran Duran stuff will get erased.
visions of CHYNAAAAAAA!!!
😍😍😍😍
I had a Anthony price dress back in the 80’s cost me £250 back then it was a black shiny dress they also had it in gold
I still love Roger Taylor best drummer in my mind 💋💋💋

I want my MTV, thats what i said to my parents here in mexico!!!
And to think, they spoke of *invisible* way back then...I guess it is *Future Past* for sure!!
I guess I would have to have been on coke too, to be a guest MTV VJ (ok speculation, but behavior and eyes can sometimes say it all). They were Seven and the Ragged Tiger
Nick nick 👋🌺⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🐈⬛🐾👀🤩🐾🐈⬛
Wish Andy Warhol was still around ...
Back when VHS was the thing. And it was crap
Wonder if Andy Warhol took a selfie
"with visions of chiiiinaa"
I would love to see those photos of them that Andy Warhol took.
This must originally be from March or April 1983.
Should have left some music/videos in 😉
