There are lots of people who sang this before and lots of them were great but maybe because I am getting older but this is the high water mark for me. RIP Jimmy.
Best version of this song I've ever heard.
in so many, many, ways
He sings with such feeling, and what a band. This blows me away and so does his Girl From the Red River Shore
@roy gunter , yes sir some songs hit us in different places as we age..he done this one to hit our hearts
Julie Felix does a good version as well
This man died too young. I really love his singing and his choice of songs. RIP Jimmy. You are missed.
Absolute incredible cover of one of the great songs. Woody would be proud and what a back up band, with our beloved Jimmy out front doing what he does best.
Jimmie LaFave always slays it. This is the BEST version of DEPORTEE I have ever heard.
thank you jimmy. mexican farm laborers deserve respect
Woody'd kindly look down at these wonderful guys - each one of them. Amazing.
Yyy7yg
Such a beautiful version of ths song. So heartbreaking.
It's always a good thing to hear Jimmy's voice he takes a song and makes it his.
This cover is absolutely perfect...
So moving - simply stunning singing and playing by Jimmy and his friends.
RIP Jimmy
Apart from the sentiment of this song the performance is absolutely stunning. Everyone of these guys is a star. Fantastic arrangement and what superb musicians
Rad makes that little red squeeze box one of the greatest instruments I have ever heard. You go, Rad! I hope that you and John [Inmon] are with Jimmy when I finally get to a show. I will drift out into the ether strain, likely!
Stunning. As relevent today as when it was first written. RIP Jimmy. Gone but Never Forgotten. Thanks for this Beautiful Upload. Regards Frank
Absolutely fabulous
just 8 years ago but so much has changed. Rad looks so young, David Amram is now 90.
Beautiful! Maybe the best ever performance of this song
RIP, an American treasure.
Very nice version. From a great singer that will be sorely missed. RIP Jimmy
Up there with the very best versions. What a set, by the way!
Beautifully done! Love some Jimmy LaFave!
This is just flat out AWESOME
Just wonderful. Thanks for posting!
An awesome singer. The band is
great.Rip Jimmy.🕊🌻🕊
Simply amazing song with fantastic lyrics. Old hippy from Cape Town. I just love life and people.
My gosh I love this song!!!
Great performance, very moving. Here are artists who play music with great passion. Mentally very strong and conscious of his incurable disease, he even performed a few days before his death. I hope the group will continue to play. He has been and will always be a VIP !
Such beautiful playing and singing,Wonderful stuff.
Joan Baez, sing’s this song live at the tribute to Woody Guthrie concert live. Woody just a unbelievable American ,singer songwriter. This kind of music is food for the soul, and Jimmy is just another great chief! You have to be able to understand this, some people never do!
Well said
How the fck could you dislike this...despite religion or politics or anything....
hey, fecal-matter happens. just enjoy the muse and forget the digress.
If you ain't letting your heart melt for anything, Jimmy's singing of this song could seem pretty threatening.
I weep every time I watch this one. So heartfelt, such great musicians. I watched it this morning after I got an update on what our governor is doing at the Texas border. We are lost without compassion, and the only thing that saves us is compassionate music/musicians.
So beautiful ❣🙏
I like this version. When I was a Kid I loved the Dolly Parton Version
i saw this man in.terneuzen...would never forget him..
De là où tu es Jimmy, tu nous aides à vivre... Et quelle grande chanson.
I needed this.
i love the version of this song, its really touching n cool to the soul.
Great version of a great song.
just fabulous
Thank you Jimmy Rest in peace
Woody Guthrie passed away 57 years ago, but his lyrics could've been written yesterday.
Wow, such a great song, but geez that band nailed it
I was lucky enough to see him play this at a woody guthrie workshop about 15 years ago and I 'm pretty sure it was Falcon Ridge. I was so utterly moved by his singing. I ran into him around the grounds and we talked a bit. He is such an earthy, genuine soul. As a quick side note, Dave (rip) and Tracy were also there which was of course just a few years before Dave's passing, and both he and Tracy were also very cool and very down to earth.
There are two sides to every story Mr. Trump😡This has to be one of the greatest covers of any song, tell you what Woody Guthrie has a big smile on his face out there in the "Great Forever"👍🏻😎
Never heard of him before but this an amazing song.
He can sing it with Woody across the universe now. We are the ones who remain in Trumpian chains.
It's always a 10.
Fantastic!
Jimmy is a Saint!
No substitute for beauty!
Angels also come from Oklahoma!
Can't get any better!
Thank you,Boys!
fantastic version
Beautiful
timeless beauty...
RIP beautiful soul
it seem written today. Ciao Woody!
amazing
Saw him live this weekend--just awesome!
Wish this was available on a cd. I have listened to various renditions of this ballad but this is by far my fav. Well done gentlemen. I have a few of Jimmy's cds so I may be a bit bias.
It is on a two-cd set Called Ribbon Of Highway Endless Skyway on Jimmy's label Music Road Records. Live band behind him but not the ones above. Still a wonderful version!
Joan Baez, sing’s this song at the tribute to Woody Guthrie concert that was recorded live! Woody , Just a unbelievable American ! Some Music is food for the soul, and Jimmy is just another great chief!
Epic! Fantastic.
The song was never given music by Woody Guthrie, if what I have read is correct, he basically just chanted it. It wasn't until it was put to music by Martin Hoffman and Pete Seeger started performing it. What a wonderful song and a testament to Mr. Hoffman for putting the music to such a wonderful and sad song left to us by Woodie Guthrie. The event is 70 years ago this year but it may happen again tomorrow.
RIP Jimmy :-(
Beautyfull crazy what a voice.
Quan diu "adiós mis amigos" em vénen ganes de plorar, sembla una premonició. Rest in peace, Jimmy
Woody called his guitar the best weapon to use on fascists.
Fabulous performance, Jimmy & friends.... Great Woody Guthrie song... Sadly little, if anything, has changed !!!
one of the best versions i ever heard, the other is judy collins live at CARNEGIE HALL.
Nice!
Andrew Hardin can flat play that flattop box.
Otis Gibbs sent me over, now I'm sad I never heard of Jimmy Lafave before. 😢😢
Best backup I've heard since the group who backed on Janis Joplin on "Me and Bobby McGee"
Best backup I've heard since the group who backed up Janis Joplin on Me and Bobby Mcgee

Does anybody know if there was a recording of this? (this version)
Not one that has been released...yet!
My thoughts to you Denmark
His voice is very similar to Kevn Kenny.
Great version
But there s only one queen of this song
And her name's

Without the farm workers who would do it- I don’t think any republicans would do this back breaking job

Me iría de cañas con estos hasta caerme de culo.
Their labor is being exploited by a few rich people, then they are tossed away or arrested. They are migrant workers, not outlaws. The only crime they commit is working to survive so people can eat cheap produce.
Nice job, folks. --Vets for Trump 2020
I can't afford grocerys either, would it be ok if I do something illegal? ! ??
depends on what you have in mind...
Second only to Johnny Cash and Johnny Rodriguez
