I thought of transitioning to Flock Audio to have the ability switch around my studio hardware however the control being tied to a proprietary software is a challenge. I’m an IT pro and a studio operator and what’s been frustrating is the money I’ve invested in purchasing VSTis seems to be a waste when the OS has been updated/upgraded; this happened to me and I’m sure many others. I would LOVE to see Flock Audio open source their controller software or transition to having a web server approach like TAG Konnektor. I like the Flock Audio solution but I’ve been hurting recently from the lost of use of MANY of my VSTis due to the MacOS update; this is not the most recent OS, it’s Catalina. 😢
Yeah man I just recently went through that and had to upgrade a big sir and that seems to be the fix for the moment but I know exactly where you're coming from flock audio is a great piece though man I swear by it
Great review video - I dig, but there is a philosophical concern I have w/ this product. Here are a few points of scientific tech acknowledgement I've been at the NAMM booth every year directly asking about: 1) Ok more licensing for software...interesting - charge more for the box itself makes sense to get a v2 in development 2) Still waiting for expansion buss port to bridge multiple patch chassis together - that would be standing behind the product, and let you out of being trapped in one box w/ D-SUB connectivity as overhead if you want out of it...standing by until then
I have a flock and Big 6 and couldn’t ask for a more plain language and accessible review than TouchTone’s. Always the same standard of relevant and important points made. Rock on, Tone. (And dude, i bet you wanna review the SSL connex mic, you know you do, man! Lay it on us!)
I have 6 and when I was in the market for a mixer it was DSG’s review that swung the deal. Great channel with a down to earth, no BS vibe. Thank you. I’ve just purchased the DX app!
I share your pain. But it is a necessary evil of today’s modern studio. We just have to be selective what we invest in. The perpetual merry go round of OS / DAW/ vst / controller software is a pain in the backside - and partly why I’m going back to more outboard and hardware. But a simple solution is to use VMs to run the laggards. I’ve just taken the plunge into apple silicon and Monterey. Decided to buy now as I expected if I waited until M2 gen pro chips then would be locked into ventura and have to wait some more. So far so good and anything that is not native or working well with rosette is getting pushed to secondary machines and/or VMs…. Plus a good idea to track how responsive vendors are to keeping up to date. The laggards are getting stripped out of the workflow. Nothing in VST land is irreplaceable and there are usual 10x options for each niche. Good luck!
Got 2 Flock units and a third on it way. I expect this software for free. I mean I already invested more than 10.000 euro into the hardware after number 3 is in. Not so good idea from Flock. Selling hardware that is SW controlled and 2 years later ask money for the control??
Negative perspective - i have to pay twice. Positive perspective - both units and the third will continue to work as advertised and I have the option of investing a little more for value add Pragmatic approach …. Pick up the phone and tell them how you feel either direct or via dealer. For a 10k customer there will be either a discount or a feee app! Good luck.
@@infojunkie4989 yeah good points, but I'm not a begger for something. I expect that suppliers know their customers. I personally gave Flock a lot of support at the start. Bought one of the very first units in the EU, mentioned the benefits to many people in the business. I would say I'm an ambassador customer.
@@gwsound whilst I’m sure you’re entitled to think that (being objective, not having a dig), they may not think in the same way. Are you posted as an ambassador? I’ve seen a few YT channels promote Flock. But not come across your name. Sorry (couple be my miss there). They’ve also gone through a distributor and dealer chain transition - mot making excuses for them - but the results have not all been for the benefit and convenience of the end user. I got excellent service when I bought mine - a discount, 1000s worth of loan cables. They even shipped it before i’d technically paid. But all came from the dealer - the app gets sold directly via a website. So the connections are probably not being made at HQ. They are clearly exhibiting growing pains as the delays to the release of this software shows. I sincerely think that a direct dialogue would best resolution. Compared to what some plugin makers charge for so called ‘upgrades’ this is a reasonable price for the extra functions especially once the bridge plug in appears. What I do find a little odd given the subscription angle here is that for those who purchased the LT, they are paying much higher cost per managed port. So the XT buyers are getting a real bargain with this upgrade, I expect the fee would be saved back in time within the first 6months of not far sooner. I’ve probably wasted more writing this reply. Quite frankly 🤣🤣. All the best.
