In 1950, Dubai was a melting pot of peoples from around the Gulf. The indigenous Arabs were mainly pearl divers, while about half the population consisted of merchant families from Persia and India who used their foreign connections to turn Dubai into a trade hub for goods between Asia and Europe.
But a lot has changed since then.
The discovery of oil drastically changed the social fabric of Dubai. In this video, we'll explore how Dubai transformed into the highly stratified society we know today, with some of the highest numbers of modern slaves in the world.

I have lived and worked in Dubai low end jobs. This documentary is wrong. Because most people who live in crowded places, do it by choice to save money. Dubai simply provides legal loops holes for people to save money.
Similarely Dubai is pretty free place. If you have money you can do anything, no limits - if you work hard, then you come out well. Legally it is a great place for poor people to work because they can save a lot of money and send back home.
Slavery never ended, it just changed.
Neo feudalism with inflation and taxes and interest, or money magic. Never can it be repayed, so the economy must eventually crumble. It’s known, expected, and planned for by the string pullers.

Dubai is one of the countries I wanna visit
Thank you for reading the comments and amending your video.
“No one talks about it”, yeah, right. Everyone does, nothing new.
It’s a shame you didn’t even highlight how it’s Western companies that sub contracts and benefits greatly from the so called “slave labour” under shell companies, which then rents out those workers to other local companies. Where thousands of British registered companies are in the UAE that benefit directly from this.
I already watched this video several days ago.
Did you delete the previous version and upload another one?
Yup, some made comments and an improved version was uploaded
@@Babytiguer thanks for a new version. By the way I was in Dubai and lived for a 6 years from 2018 to 2024 in Qatar. So I know some hiden and unusual aspects about that area.
I would appretiate if you make a video about Qatar as well.
This new video is amazing! It's so cool that you take your community into account when making your content. VERY GOOD VIDEO!
Out of curiosity, I looked up Nancy Williams Laplace, and she seems pretty tight and outstanding. I read through her resume, educational background.
Well, I picked the challenge to put my finances in order. Then I invested in cryptocurrency, stocks, through the assistance of my discretionary fund manager
Mrs Nancy Williams Laplace
This is correct, Nancy's strategy has normalized winning trades for me also and it’s a huge milestone for me looking back to how it all started..
Nancy is considered a key Crypto Strategist with one of the best copy Trading Portfolios and also very active in the cryptocurrency space.
Please how can I reach out to her easily?
It called 9 to 5
Wow, this revision of the video is SO much better. Thank you.
Rampant CAPITALISM
Talk about the dark secrets of German during WW2
This ☝️
Everyone is aware of the genocides commited in Nazi Germany. What a lousy attempt to excuse what's happening in the UAE.
For anyone wondering this argumentation technique and logical fallacy is called "whataboutism". Once you see someone use it you know they're full of shit and don't have actual arguments to refute what's being said.
In 1991 over 75% of Dubai's population ran away under the percived threat of Saddam. Dubai's foreign population could do the same again. They have no reason to stay if the threat is great enough.
😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
just a few drones from the other side of the water...
I’d be interested to hear more about how Dubai plans to switch over to parks instead of highways for its future.
I wonder if their infrastructure department is a high 19 year old with access to city skylines, with NotJustBikes UA-cam channel in the background.
Nice video, bad sponsor.(pls do not help the "investors" steal poor peoples money )
Turkey? Russia?
Really?
As a transgender woman I would never go there.
Dubai another las vegas
can you believe the westerners accusing others of practicing slavery? lol
I feel disgusted when everyday youtubers and content creators are trying to find a catch, either it's true or false what the content is all about.. With controversial vedio titles to attract audience.. Very stupid and expected.. About this vedio and slavery.. I have been living here since 22 years and watching this makes feel shocked.. They use rare incidents / vedios of odd people and trying to show the audience that this is happening everyday and around the clock.. This is nonsense and absurd.. Who ever steps inside this country enters by his choice.. And if he didn't like it then he can leave anytime... What a hypocracy from a westerner who claims human rights.. While we see how the world today lead by west closing not only one eye but two for all the inhuman killing in the middle east and Africa!!!
I think the video ends up far too bright.
The city itself ain't livable and exploitation is far too common. These things are also not addressed and they have basically no reason to do so.
In the region there are many that try to grab a part of their market away, making it likely the emerates will also earn less. Climate change also plays a big role and will have big consequences for the country.
We also need to keep in mind these countries are strictly Islamic. I personally believe that what they do is absolutely haram. Besides that their rules are only changed to fit tourism. In they end all serves only one thing and that is capital with the royals on top of course.
haha dubai has some muslims, but they aren't islamic, they sold their souls for western money.
Video fell off so badly you had to reupload 💀
It's a process, and I won't always get it right on the first try. The previous version of this video didn't sit well with me and I felt like it fell short of what I want a Hindsight video to stand for, so I spent most of this week on refining the script and edit to something I can truly stand behind. I hope you like it.
@@HindsightYT oh sorry for being mean, I had to no idea you felt so passionate for your videos. I just thought you were those people who reuploads there videos when they don't perform well
@@ducknotfound Haha no worries. I didn't interpret your comment as being mean!
I was one of the negative or critical comments on the previous version and I have never been a bigger fan of Hindsight due to this reworked version. It shows good intent and a drive to learn and improve that is exemplary for all in my opinion.
@@248Name I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for sticking with me and for sharing your positive feedback as well.
Western propaganda as usual
Wow quality video and report
But aint happening the good kumbaya future in mu2lim countries
I2lam = submission
The problem is them not Islam
@@user-lz5dz1qx2qthe problem is clearly Islam
Submission to God not to greedy humans, big difference.
