New! Longest Ruling National Leaders 1939 - 2024

- Here's a timeline of the longest-serving national leaders from 1939 to 2024.
Methodology: Each year counts if a person held power for at least one calendar day during that year. The ruling leader is the highest-ranked political figure in a country as mandated by the constitution or, in practice, the most powerful person in the state, regardless of official title (e.g., the Putin-Medvedev case). Royal monarchies with absolute power are not included.
Bar Colors: Western countries (Blue), African countries (Black), Asian countries (Yellow), Latin American countries (Green), Soviet Union and its former republics (Red).

Hey everyone!
I'm into number crunching, data, and cool visuals. If you like my stuff, support my channel, it can buy me another cup of coffee and a cookie for my baby girl Eva.
A lot of questions, I have to address Vladimir Putin's case here.
1. He was the acting president in 1999 before being elected in 2000.
2. The counting methodology is as follows: serving at least one day during any calendar year is counted as one year.
3. The ruling leader is the highest-ranked political figure in a country as mandated by the constitution or, in practice, the most powerful person in the state, regardless of official title (e.g., the Putin-Medvedev terms).
President Medvedev is a "hawk". He was the first person to represent Russia in the world (Prime Minister Putin solved the problems of the regions) You're wrong... many pointed out the inaccuracy
You missed Antonio de Oliveira Salazar. He was the Portugal head of state from around 1928 into the sixties.
Could you reuploaded it without dropping to make the comparation?
I'm for this, my attention span isn't enough to hold that many moving bars in my head at once :P
It would be very boring and static video
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficialno it will be intresting
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficial It would help us compare the longest reigns... without needing to go back and forth in the video and write it down.
Noted
Why do the years count down when they are out of power? Doesn't make sense to me.
Maybe it is a software issue
Yeah that made no sense
This is hand made animation. What software? Vegas?@
Vielleicht sterben Diktotoren auch mal?
I think it's just a transition to make it a bit easier to follow rather than just suddenly voiding them. I like it.
António Oliveira de Salazar, of Portugal, is missing from this list. He was the de-facto ruler between 1932 and 1968, during the portuguese dictatorship period.
Where is Salazar?
You have reached the limit of this visualization format. It makes no sense for the years to decrease and there is no way to compare the total length of service if they drop off the chart the second they lose power or die.
These last two uploads -- really not topics I'm interested in. But I'm SO happy to see you back, I watched them both end to end...thanks, looking forward to more.
I love your vids! Thank yo y so much for sharing. I’m so happy your back 🤩
What about Haile Selassie?
Interesting thought that the U.S. never made the list after Roosevelt because term limits were imposed.
thats good
Excellent video !
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the video. But it looks like you posted the wrong photo for Lee Kuan Yew (Singapore), what appears is a photo of Suharto (Indonesia).
You are posting every day :)
Time to update
Antonio Salazar ran Portugal for 38 years, why was he excluded?
Before 1974, the president of Portugal was the head of state and highest office of Portugal, not PM.
hmmm, similar to Putin/Medvedev, no?
The opposite, prior to Third Republic (1974), presidents had real power in Portugal. Salazar was PM most of the years.
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficialyou must not be Portuguese. Ask anyone that lived in Portugal at the time of Salazars rule, they will all tell you who was in charge at the time.
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficialsorry, that's wrong, the president was a puppet, best wishes from Portugal.
That's great. What program is this graphic made of? I'd appreciate it if you could tell me.

You forgot the Queen. Elizabeth II. As head of state she outranks any politician, nor does she have absoolute power as a constitutional monarch.
Asian countries yellow? African black?
@dcarbs2979 Nonsense. The British monarch is completely powerless other than helping bring in financial contracts from other monarchies like Saudia Arabia.
@Kanibulus Green and Black are common "African" colors used in national flags and elsewhere...
@@brianquigley1940 The British Monarch has more power than the whole of Parliament combined. It is simply dangerous to use it.
Lee Kuan Yew's photo is Suharto's... Impressive data though! Cool video.

Castro - 47 years
Putin - keep my beer
Я надеюсь, что нет
Where is Urho Kekkonen, the president of finland. He was president from 1956 to 1982 and is nowhere to be seen here?.
Queen Elizabeth II at #1 from 1995 with 43 year reign - 11 years longer than any other leader at the time. Remained #1 for 28 years.
She didn't have any political power.
@@gwdyon It says 'Leader' not those with political power. That said she DID have an enormous amount of politcal power (as does the King). She simply didn't use it. If she wanted to, she can replace parliament and rule in her own right. That is some of the politcal power the Monarch has. In reality, it's mostly done by soft power and influence.
@@dcarbs2979I'd like to see Charles try that stunt!
@@brianquigley1940 The last Charles to try it lost his head.
@@dcarbs2979 I don't think you fully understand the concept of constitutional monarchy. It's not like you described it. The monarch has mostly a ceremonial role and some limited veto power which is rarely used (and can be overrun anyway). Elizabeth lasted that long because she perfectly understood her ceremonial role. She might have used some soft power in the weekly meetings with the PM, but that's about it. Even a rockstar or a famous football player can have 'soft' political power .. would define them as political leaders? Surely not. A PM has no obligation whatsoever to follow Her Majesty advice, nor even to justify why the government did otherwise. This literally means having no political power. If a British monarch tries publicly to interfere with the governing of the country, the monarchy would be quickly replaced by a republic...
What abt the queen of england
The last Queen of England was Queen Anne, who was also concurrently Queen of Scotland, and who then ceased to have those two titles and instead became Queen of Great Britain in 1707, before dying in 1714. This video doesn't feature her because it starts in 1939. In 1801 the Kingdom of Great Britain merged with Ireland to become the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Following Eire becoming independent this then became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The first part of this timeline features Winston Churchill so it appears the creator of this video chose to use the United Kingdom's Prime Ministers rather than their monarchs, though why they did this I'm not sure.
@@MrDannyDetail I know monarchs don't currently run the country and that's left to the prime Minister but queen Elizabeth was around as a figure head for a rly long time
@@MrDannyDetailHighly regarded. She's still the queen of England & canadia the only country that counts.
She wasn't a leader, merely a figurehead, like all current members of the Royal Family.
She doesn’t have power
Which screen recorder are used for this video plz reply??
Cool those one! 😊
There is a mistake. Franco and De Gaulle have the same picture
Hello Data is Beautiful. There is a question. Could you create a What If video about the ranking of operating systems in the years 1999-2028 with the following rules: No operating systems that were not released on computers, such as IOS, Android, etc. They must be OS only Desktop/Mac/Linux . You can use any available Windows 12 fan logo as you wish. This system will hypothetically appear in the world of film in the fall of 2025, in the period from September to the final autumn days in December. As we know perfectly well, each operating system such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10 had to take 2 years. This rule will also apply to Windows 12. Another rule. In this film, Windows 10, just like in the real world, receives Extended Security Updates for companies and ordinary users for 3 years until 2028. I want to know what a simulation of the operating system market would look like in the post-Windows 10 era, in the posthumous Windows 10 era. Could you create such a film?
Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea probably should be on this list. Current president and in office since 1979.
Could you also include pictutes of flags instead or along with the country name ?
“Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed regularly and for the same reason” - Mark Twain.
Please tell this channel is monatise or not?
Imagine do you went back to like the 1500s lol.
Also surprised Truman didn’t make it in.
You missed Tage Erlander, prime minister of Sweden from 1946 to1969 (23 years and 3 days)
Not sure why those at the top dissappear once they're out of power. They still need to rank.
Jesus loves you ❤️ Please turn to him and repent and receive Salvation before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world. Jesus was born into the world free of sin, then he died on the cross for our sins and God raised him from the dead on the third day. Jesus is waiting for you with open arms. He wants to be with you but time is running out. Repent now and turn to him while there is still time. His heart longs for you.
The ranking isn't cumulative over time, it's the longest serving current leaders as of each year the timeline passes through.
Because it is data for that year. If he is out of power, he is no longer on the list at that moment.
It would stay very static for 4 minutes
Curious why Queen Elizabeth II didn't count at all, as she was head of state of the UK from 1952 till 2022!
ah spotted your mention of royal monarchies in the description 👍
@@wolfpurplemoon But she is not an *absolute* monarch. Should have been included.
In case of non absolute monarchies I included PMs or Presidents, whoever is highest in the rank..
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficial Monarch has the highest rank.
Powerless... just like Charles... despite living off blood money...
Your channel monitized?
MacKenzie-King of Canada was PM for 26 years or so, ending in 1951 Strange omission.
What about Tage Erlander? He was the head of government in Sweden for 23 years, the longest uninterrupted rule of any democratically elected person in history
No, that title is for Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, 31 years. He won 8 clean and democratic elections.
Who put running watch?
I LOVE these! Can I ask how you do it? I would like to do something like this for sales at my company. I will give you full credit and plug your channel.......Thanks for everything!👍

@@neopickaze Thanks!!!!!
You forgot Hun Sen of Cambodia, 30 plus years. He finally resigned and had his son continued the reign.
Queen Elizabeth II. She was head of state for 70 years.
She was also head of the Commonwealth but bless her, if she really was our National leader over 70 years you’d have to conclude that she was schizophrenic! 😂
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Robert menzies wasnt orime minister of Australia for 20+ years consecutively, he was PM from 39-41 then bailed because of the war so John Curtin took over and saved Australia, thrn menzies returned in 1949 until 1966
All the people saying Queen Elizabeth just shows no one remembers anything from school lol
What is her name music please
Franco single handedly keeping facsism alive by sheer will alone😂
Some people annoyed why it years decrease, idk i liked this way instead of disappearing
I'd love to see the overall longest-serving leaders over time
Holding on to power, for that long is just toxic it seems.
Scary, that years tend to increase, isn't it?
Excellent content as usual!
What a lovely long list of ruthless dictators
Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew pic appears to be Suharto and they are the same pic.
Its a BIT on the nose black bars are used for African leaders and yellow bars for Asian leaders.
Where is Urho Kekkonen? He was the President of Finland for 26 years. (1956-1982)
Fidel Castro was the most powerful person in the state since 1959. While he was Prime Minister (1959-1976), the presidents only had nominal power. This video appears to be counting Fidel Castro's tenure starting from 1964 for some reason.
Are Lee Kuan Yew and Suharto twins?
It'd be more useful if you color-coded them by political system rather than continent (ie: Fascism, Communism, Monarchy, Democracy, etc)
Good idea
Go ahead. Give it a try. Let's see your results.
Where is British Queen?
Where is Angela Merkel?
Where is family's Clinton and Bush?
And 2008-2012 president Russia Dmitry Medvedev, no Putin.
Bill was only president for 8 years
why you put suharto's photo in lee kuan yew's? lol
You have some mistakes in this video.
Formaly (officialy) Putin is a president of russia just about 20 year (2000 - 2008, 2012 - 2024) = 20 years. Cause Medvedev was a president one time. But I understand, that it's just only officialy. In fact Putin is a head of russia still about 24 years (but anyway, not 26, like in video)
Nice world record.
Jesus loves you ❤️ Please turn to him and repent and receive Salvation before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world. Tage Erlander became pm of sweden in 1946 and was reelected to 1969 so he should hace been present after 1960.
How can the time of serving diminish? In 1953, Stalin’s time is 32 years at first, then less ang gone. It stopped increasing, of course, but it could not be decreasing, right? So, in, say, 1956, Stalin should be still the first, with Trujillo (27 years) being the second.
Salazar was in power for almost 40 years
We all know he disqualified our girl Elizabeth so others could have at least a shred of a chance😂
