I grew up with Star Wars, wrecked my eyesight reading the books. Had many of the Micro Machines spaceships. I've lost all interest in going to the theatres. They messed up.
Robert They were bad movies (minus Episode 3) but the main thing I liked about them was the lore that they added to the Star Wars universe and the main story. Also the music was great.
Lot's of problems with the Prequels, but I think it really came together in Revenge of the Sith. They made Palpatine's rise to power make a lot of sense and did a pretty good job showing Anakin change from a nice kid, to a war hero, to the iron fist of thr Empire. Compare that to the total lack of character development in Disney Wars and the nonsense balance of power they've developed. There's no subtlety in the new movies, and the plot moves mostly based on showcasing special effects.
I love the prequels. They have a good logical story, showing, for me at least, why the jedi were tricked and their biggest falls.but, for me they had 2 problems. 1. Puntastic dialog of cringe and meme material 2. The setting was a bit too ambitious. One or two extra movies to better setup the Clone Wars and the manipulation of Sheev on Anakin would have made them a lot better.
I've loved the prequels from the first. Yes, I admit there were issues - the whole midiclorian thing just grated, Jar Jar Binks set a new standard of weaponized annoyance, and while picking fresh names out of a hat worked for the original series, I'm going to have to agree it misfired here ... Hayden Christensen at least needed a bit more seasoning. What they did accomplish was definitively shaping the original series as a fall from the grace and Golden Age of the Republic. They gave us the Clone Wars as a plot sandbox, they gave us more characters, more powerful female characters, more and wider settings to roam. They fleshed out Sheev Palpatine and showed us the world that shaped him. There were, imho, three critical points. 1) In the original series, everything was gritty, worn ... I think the term George Lucas used to describe what he was going for was "boilerplate". Everything in the prequels was modeled to show a higher level of fit-and-finish ... the same technological base, but a higher level of manufacture, more variety, a wider range of thought and desire reflected in concept and material. 2) The prequels turned the Jedi Order from a few vague descriptions and background blurbs into a fully realized organisation and way of thought. Before the prequels came out, all attention was on what happened during, and following, the Rebellion era, from the Battle of Yavin on. Largely because NO ONE wanted to get in the way of what George Lucas might have had planned for any nascent prequels. 3) Outlining and enlarging the character of Sheev Palpatine, and his orchestration of Anakin's fall from grace. Anakin, honestly, was almost a side note ... we knew where he came from, and where he wound up, from the original trilogy. This was the tale of his journey there, and that was Sheev's tale. I'm with the majority at this point, I think, when I say we all wish George had been able to accept more help realizing his vision for the prequels ... but I still say what we got was Pretty Damned Good.

They say that Disney wants her gone but no one they feel that the shareholders would accept will step into the role and they have to gove a show of strength not to cause any type of a panic. They also say that Disney has scaled back her role in the company. They want to sort of ease her out the door but as soon as possible.

The shift in opinion about the prequels exemplifies my attitude towards entertainment perfectly. Appreciate something for its merits, criticized its flaws, then weigh them against each other outside of anything else. Are the prequels worse than the original trilogy? Maybe. Do they spit in the face of everything that Star Wars is? Absolutely not. By this definition the prequels are not bad. I am glad that people are finally coming to realize this because remember that though a work may fall short of expectations it can still be good.
Movies in general right now suck. It's nothing but soft reboots that are absolutely horrendous stories. I feel like we have a lack of creatives in Hollywood now big time. I'm not seeing anything else in theaters for a little I'm good with some books for a while.

I never realized how good Attack of the Clones was until I was forced to accept that The Last Jedi is the official lore. KK saved my opinion of the prequels. I used to think Revenge of the Sith was the only good one, but now I realize how much worse they could have been.
TFA was successful because people were hungry for sequels with the original characters. TLJ was somewhat successful due to people wanting to see Carrie Fisher one last time as well as Luke. Episode 9 may bring in a lot of people so they can see how Leia dies. It may very well gross over a billion worldwide but after that i dont think the fans will give a crap any longer. I dont think Kennedy will get more than these 3 years and maybe episode 9 might be the only release in those 3 years.
After Solo bombing, after the Last Jedi Blue Ray sales being far less than the Force Awakens, the negative reception on Resistance, and the huge backlash on their SJW agenda, one would think they would change their tactics to make money. Doesn't matter, this was the domino that set off the idea "now is definitely the time to boycott" in many people's mind, including mine.
I recently rewatched Rogue One and TLJ ruined it as well. There are quite a few little TLJ Easter eggs that remind me of that awful film so I can't even just sit and enjoy that film anymore either.

Also, as mentioned above, the hyperspace ramming method, could have decided many battles. Sending the Mon Cal ship into the Death Star would have seriously damaged it and delayed its use. It's been a long time since I've chimed in on Star Wars content on CAPS. I feel like now is the right time to say that I have never not cared about something as much as I don't care about Star Wars. The original trilogy was entertaining, but the franchise lost me forever at the George Lucas prequels. I was not phased by the hype for The Force Awakens, and when I finally watched it I found it be "meh." Disney can't run it into the ground because it was already destroyed nearly 20 years ago. Why anyone still nerds out over it in current year is something that will forever elude me.

I did the math on the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" final box office numbers--given Disney only makes back 65% domestically (typically 45-55% for any other movie) and up to 45% internationally (as low as 25% in some countries, actually) of all total ticket sales, the budget of $250M (probably more) + Prints & Ads marketing budget upwards of $150M, AND Disney only made $392.9M worldwide with "Solo": it lost closer to $180M, probably more, not including DVD/Blu-Ray/4K/Digital Copy & toy sales (which are probably at all-time lows for a "Star Wars" film).

They were bad movies (minus Episode 3) but the main thing I liked about them was the lore that they added to the Star Wars universe and the main story. Also the music was great.
Lot's of problems with the Prequels, but I think it really came together in Revenge of the Sith. They made Palpatine's rise to power make a lot of sense and did a pretty good job showing Anakin change from a nice kid, to a war hero, to the iron fist of thr Empire. Compare that to the total lack of character development in Disney Wars and the nonsense balance of power they've developed. There's no subtlety in the new movies, and the plot moves mostly based on showcasing special effects.
I love the prequels. They have a good logical story, showing, for me at least, why the jedi were tricked and their biggest falls.but, for me they had 2 problems.
1. Puntastic dialog of cringe and meme material
2. The setting was a bit too ambitious. One or two extra movies to better setup the Clone Wars and the manipulation of Sheev on Anakin would have made them a lot better.
I've loved the prequels from the first. Yes, I admit there were issues - the whole midiclorian thing just grated, Jar Jar Binks set a new standard of weaponized annoyance, and while picking fresh names out of a hat worked for the original series, I'm going to have to agree it misfired here ... Hayden Christensen at least needed a bit more seasoning.
What they did accomplish was definitively shaping the original series as a fall from the grace and Golden Age of the Republic. They gave us the Clone Wars as a plot sandbox, they gave us more characters, more powerful female characters, more and wider settings to roam. They fleshed out Sheev Palpatine and showed us the world that shaped him. There were, imho, three critical points.
1) In the original series, everything was gritty, worn ... I think the term George Lucas used to describe what he was going for was "boilerplate". Everything in the prequels was modeled to show a higher level of fit-and-finish ... the same technological base, but a higher level of manufacture, more variety, a wider range of thought and desire reflected in concept and material.
2) The prequels turned the Jedi Order from a few vague descriptions and background blurbs into a fully realized organisation and way of thought. Before the prequels came out, all attention was on what happened during, and following, the Rebellion era, from the Battle of Yavin on. Largely because NO ONE wanted to get in the way of what George Lucas might have had planned for any nascent prequels.
3) Outlining and enlarging the character of Sheev Palpatine, and his orchestration of Anakin's fall from grace. Anakin, honestly, was almost a side note ... we knew where he came from, and where he wound up, from the original trilogy. This was the tale of his journey there, and that was Sheev's tale.
I'm with the majority at this point, I think, when I say we all wish George had been able to accept more help realizing his vision for the prequels ... but I still say what we got was Pretty Damned Good.

Some outlets are reporting that it is a complicated situation. They say that Disney wants her gone but no one they feel that the shareholders would accept will step into the role and they have to gove a show of strength not to cause any type of a panic. They also say that Disney has scaled back her role in the company. They want to sort of ease her out the door but as soon as possible.
Shareholders will regret that decision when they give out money only to recieve less then what they gave.
Being a shareholder in the era of "quantitative easing" and Gulf money is just a feel good way to be a sucker.

Given the quality of product Lucasfilm is turning out, I would describe the state of the company with one word: "rudderless". The story and tone is an inconsistent mess, with painfully broken continuity; which is to be expected given the parade of writers and directors that have dipped their toes into this franchise since the Disney buyout. KK deserves all the criticism she has received, and more, for running the company like she is the Queen of Harts from the Alice in Wonderland cartoon.

The shift in opinion about the prequels exemplifies my attitude towards entertainment perfectly. Appreciate something for its merits, criticized its flaws, then weigh them against each other outside of anything else.
Are the prequels worse than the original trilogy? Maybe. Do they spit in the face of everything that Star Wars is? Absolutely not. By this definition the prequels are not bad. I am glad that people are finally coming to realize this because remember that though a work may fall short of expectations it can still be good.

Good thing I've decided to drop Disney's SW and went back to legends, which are now official canon for me. Even the crappiest legends stories still make a better narrative than Marxist Wars: The last SJW. And Solo's backstory is loads better in legends too.

I never realized how good Attack of the Clones was until I was forced to accept that The Last Jedi is the official lore. KK saved my opinion of the prequels. I used to think Revenge of the Sith was the only good one, but now I realize how much worse they could have been.
TFA was successful because people were hungry for sequels with the original characters. TLJ was somewhat successful due to people wanting to see Carrie Fisher one last time as well as Luke. Episode 9 may bring in a lot of people so they can see how Leia dies. It may very well gross over a billion worldwide but after that i dont think the fans will give a crap any longer. I dont think Kennedy will get more than these 3 years and maybe episode 9 might be the only release in those 3 years.

I recently rewatched Rogue One and TLJ ruined it as well. There are quite a few little TLJ Easter eggs that remind me of that awful film so I can't even just sit and enjoy that film anymore either.

Also, as mentioned above, the hyperspace ramming method, could have decided many battles. Sending the Mon Cal ship into the Death Star would have seriously damaged it and delayed its use. Alderaan would still be around for a few more years at best.

It's been a long time since I've chimed in on Star Wars content on CAPS. I feel like now is the right time to say that I have never not cared about something as much as I don't care about Star Wars. The original trilogy was entertaining, but the franchise lost me forever at the George Lucas prequels. I was not phased by the hype for The Force Awakens, and when I finally watched it I found it be "meh." Disney can't run it into the ground because it was already destroyed nearly 20 years ago. Why anyone still nerds out over it in current year is something that will forever elude me.

Lost million of dollars.

I did the math on the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" final box office numbers--given Disney only makes back 65% domestically (typically 45-55% for any other movie) and up to 45% internationally (as low as 25% in some countries, actually) of all total ticket sales, the budget of $250M (probably more) + Prints & Ads marketing budget upwards of $150M, AND Disney only made $392.9M worldwide with "Solo": it lost closer to $180M, probably more, not including DVD/Blu-Ray/4K/Digital Copy & toy sales (which are probably at all-time lows for a "Star Wars" film).
