    Heather! And Wattie! The checkerboard shorts and helmet just rock...gotta make this available to your fans, PLEASE! :D I battle bad allergies in both the pool and OWS and totally understand the issues with panic attacks. A friend shared this song with me before AG Nationals a few years ago: You Make Me Brave, Amanda Cook. With this tune blaring in my head and the waves of Lake Erie smashing me all around...I got outta the water actually laughing and kinda bummed the swim was already done! It was a miracle. Praying the best, brave swim, bike, run for you at St. George! God bless, Megan ps. sorry about the struggles at Oceanside; leave it in the past.

    It's hard to change the mindset of fears. I repeatedly say to myself I want to feel joy, experiences and share it with others, embracing a situation where everyone is in a space together. Not fighting but learning. (not sports related here) All the best!

    Love the hockey question. I was a goalie, so for me it's drawing on that fight and focus that comes from times when the other team were pressing, the team was gassed at the end of a shift, but unable to get off, and I had to focus and dig deep and not give up, and try to get an opportunity to force a whistle before the other team changed. That mental toughness came in handy at the end of a race when I was close to a PB or target time.

    Hey Heather, I really appreciate your vulnerability here. I feel your pain when you are talking about your experiences at St. George. I’ve had similar issues where I’ve passed out in front of large crowds and once it happened the first time, it continued to happen and it was definitely a self-manifested fear and self-fulfilling prophecy.
    I wanted to share with you a therapy I used called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) that helped me overcome these fears. I don’t know if you’ve heard of EMDR, but I think it’s worth researching. I am not a therapist and I’m not here to convince you of anything, just wanted to share with you a strategy that helped me. I feel for you and I’m wishing you and your hubby all the best in all you amazing feats! You are one of the hardest working people I’ve seen and it’s awesome to watch your story unfold!

    Dear Heather, regarding your swim at St George. I think your brain needs to be able to recall a good (swim) experience in that location. May I suggest you to go to St George a couple of days before the race and do part of the swim leg? That way on race day you will have a positive and recent memory as proof that "I can do it because I have done it".
    As someone who almost drowned twice in the ocean (once when I was about 12 and the last time when I was 25 years old) I too had to fight my fears and demons to even consider getting my feet wet in the open water, let alone swimming for 2ks... I'm 40 now and after 8 months of consistent swimming lessons and training, I was able to finish my first 70.3 last Feb.
    I'll be cheering for you on race day. Keep smiling and all the best!

    Heather, great video as usual. Could you talk about riding hills on a TT bike: when do you get off aerobars and when you still push in aero position? Is there a reference speed that you use as a gauge? Thanks.

    • @heatherjacksonracing
      @heatherjacksonracing  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much Alessia🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️ In terms of your question, I'll use the Mt. Lemmon workout in the video as an example. My coach Frank gave me 10 mins on at IM pace and 5min off for this session with the run off at pace. So in this case I would be in aero bars for the 10 mins and then out of the aero bars for the 5mins drinking and getting ready for the next effort. Hopefully that helps. Thank you so much for watching🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Generally....What is the approximate break-down of run-bike swim on a typical week? Some don't run a whole lot whiles others routinely run 70-80 mi per week. Just curious on a typical week?
