The restraints in the restraint scenes have killed members of the autistic community. Some names to honor and remember who were killed by these restraints, Max Benson, and Eric Parson. We love them a lot and these restraints have killed them. We do not support the restraint scenes.
Both of the replies are rude, this person was literally talking about how members of the autistic have died because of restraint and you both just talk about some random thing on instagram
As someone who’s autistic, and goes to school with folks with “severe” cases. the portrayal in the movie was terrible. What Maddie was doing was more like how folks without autism would mock em. I know this cause well I’ve seen it myself. It’s terrible. I feel bad for Maddie for having to play this roll. They should’ve gotten someone who’s still nonspeaking autistic but still can act ya know act. Even if there’s changes needed to be made for that to happen. It just would’ve made things less, controversial and hurtful. Especially if sia actually listened to her autistic audience with the criticisms. Also that opening scene was just terrible. With music day dreaming with her grandma dead. Like.... that doesn’t happen, yeah social ques and general awareness may not be that good but if you see your loved one collapse you’re gonna at least scream and freak out a lil
The "laying down on a person struggling to soothe them" is called prone restraint and it's unfortunately contributed to the injury and death of too many disabled kids. There are other techniques to help people having meltdowns, and this sort of thing should only be used as a very very last resort, if possible with consent, but in the movie it's their first and only reaction to Music melting down I think. A person having a meltdown could be helped in numerous ways depending on their personal needs and this movie talking about how holding someone down with all their weight is great and kind is really bad....
Wow as a person who works everyday with kids with autism. ANYONE WHO DON'T LIVE IT SHOULD NEVER INTERPRET IT. Sia has mentioned she herself was on the spectrum. So she feels she can portray autism. This is sooooo off. Everyone's autism is so personal. Autistic kids love performing. Hire real spectrum actors.
Between Sia's kind of nasty response to the criticism about not casting an autistic person as Music and the description of this plot, I have no intention of watching this. Now after listening to the review, and knowing this got golden globe nominated, this is why I don't bother watching award programs. 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
This sounds like the film actually wants to be two movies, a serious drama and a very silly comedy. This rarely goes well together. The names "(Ka-)Zoo" and "Music" alone go on my nerves. They appear unnecessarily pretentious which is a bad prerequisite for a story about a person you should care about. And I'm under the impression that we should feel sorry for the older sister as well. Something in her upbringing clearly drove her away from her family and made her a drug addict. But that part of the story seems to be cut in favor of a bunch of whacky scenes. A very unfortunate decision since it works against the character.
One of the reasons the movie spent more time with Zu was because this movie was originally going to be called “Sisters” but was changed at like the last second. I also agree with everything you said, I’m honestly kind of disappointed with Sia
Could be on the other side, I haven't watched the movie but my understanding is that Music and Zu are half sisters and nothing is mentioned about any parents. Very possible for her to be Music's grandparent and not related to Zu.
Hector Elizondo was in this? No no nah just hell nah. He’s been in so many movies and is so talented but sold out for this bs? I mean his character taught Julia Robert’s character Kit proper etiquette and how to dress in ‘Pretty Woman’ but has now added ‘Music’ to his filmography? Ok I I I just can’t anymore... how just how Hector Elizondo? How could you do me like this? I used to remember him for covering Kit with his jacket but now I’ll permanently associate him with this garbage. Ffs his stock plummeted quickly
I ignored all the controversy around this film, bought and watched it because I love Sia and all the actors in this movie. I would have been okay with the movie IF FELIX DIDN'T DIE! I was SO MAD!! There was no reason for him to die and the only one who noticed that he was gone was Music but the movie just moved on as if HE WASN’T IMPORTANT! I loves his character and his random death ruined it for me (I did love the musical sequences and songs though. Leslie is fire).
Great review! I really enjoy you channel. I watched the movie and couldn't stand it. It was so uncomfortable, and like you said, everything felt disjointed.
well there's nice dealers, but ofc the higher you go the crueller it gets. depends on if the dealer is on something, or if its a side thing, Addicts and dealers are humans, so you have some variety too. I can imagine dealers being supportive or not depending on the person. you have everything from student giving only to friends and acquaintances to junkie who has held on to principles up to cold sadistic person only in for the money and control
So many bad stereotypes and misrepresentation ... Music in this movie is a prop. Body slamming as a first response is wrong and deadly and counter-productive. There are times when my daughter needs to be restrained from hurting herself but NEVER would I be on top of her pinning her down and it's always as a last resort because she's going to seriously injure herself if I don't example: wanting to run into oncoming traffic or slamming her head repeatedly into the wall or floor. It makes me sick that people will see this and connect it to my daughter. Or worse think that if she's melting down in public they are helping us by assaulting her. You have no idea how many times I've been told I'm blessed to have an ASD child because she's going to be a math genius or doctor because they saw rain man and the good doctor. *sighs* The movie is also very disorienting for an ASD person to watch there's too many stimulating colors and fast transitions. The melt downs are dreadful and should not be the basis of her character. There's no balance of how life with ASD can be beautiful and fulfilling. The story should have been about Music, been actually researched, and the community should have had 100% involvement. The fact that the film made Maddie and the supposed autistic actor she replaced so uncomfortable they didn't want to do it should have been a red flag. The fact that the trailer offended the community it was supposed to represent it should have held it back to address the issues. This movie makes me so sad. There were so many times these mistakes could have been avoided.
This seems like such a waste of talented people. Sia literally has bipolar and depression and it’s like make a movie about that. Her songs were so good because they talked about mental health in a raw way.
I think in this case you shouldn't worry so much about movies' stereotypes of gay men, but the fact that you are expecting these gay men in particular to cater to your own opinions on this subject, otherwise they're not as artistically sensitive and deep as you previously decided they (and all of them, really) should be. That's an extremely problematic view to have on any kind of minority, by the way.

It was nominated for an Academy Award. “For WHAT?” 🤣😂
Golden globe...not an oscar
For shame!

I'm sure she's talented sometimes 😂
Lmao the shade ☂️ 😂
And more often than not, she's not talented.
I came here to write the same thing😅

Yo I just saw this tonight and HOLY SHIT this was bad. So tone deaf. This will likely make my worst movie of 2021. It’s so bad yall
The description of the drug dealer close to the end 😂😂😂😂 Sia has never seen Ozark.
lol "I'm sure she's talented sometime" I love him and his shade so much
Thank You for the Faye Dunaway Angry Phone Message.
I’m going to listen to it a thousand times.
Yeah people who end up losing large amounts of drugs usually end up getting hurt bad
This one was really rough... to say the least. So many things wrong with it, besides how utterly offensive it is too 🤔 great review you two!!!! 🥰
You guys have me cracking up in the first minute from how much you are over this movie 😭 by movie I should say long-form Fabletics commercial.
Who names their kid Kazoo omg
white Australians I'm assuming
I can’t 😂😂❤️
May Kay Place could be Hudsons mom. Sure as heck not her grandma

I hate when rich people in a bubble write movies about poor people. They dont know anything about what living in a poor neighborhood is like.

Thank you guys for spoiling this movie!
I really do not want to give me money to the people who made it,
I hope they lose money on this one!
I took a deep hit as well during the technical difficulties!
20 years from now this film will have a cult following as the tone deaf Showgirls 🤣
Thanks for watching this movie so I don't have to!! I wanted to get the insight and spoilers, keep up the good work 💜💜
The Boxer and Kuzu
Perfect
This movie deserves an award - the worst movie this year
Great review! I really enjoy you channel. I watched the movie and couldn't stand it. It was so uncomfortable, and like you said, everything felt disjointed.
Ooh! Criterion!
please please please review the new netflix limted series Behind Her Eyes. The ending has me baffledddd
We’ll have to add it to the list.
This is hilarious 😂
They keep trying to make Kate Hudson a great actress, like that damn Dakota Johnson, Don Johnson's daughter 🙄 THEY are neither.
But Maddie Ziegler did not wanna do this movie her mom made her
Great review guys! 😄
I dont think sia knows much about the drug scene in Los Angeles. I'm sure it's not like that.

I’m getting Rain Man vibe from this movie,👀

It's pronounced Kusturitsa not Costurica btw.
sia is not a real musician
Sounds like a horrible movie
I thought gay men have more artistic sense and deepness but I guess it's just a false sterotype I learned from bad movies...
I think the word you’re looking for is DEPTH.
@@fishjellyfilmreviews Sorry, my English is rusty, how's your Romanian?
